/Film Reader Flax points out that a new photo has been uploaded to the Cloverfield viral website 1-18-08.com. The new photo features what appears to be a destroyed oil tanker, possibly off the coast of New York City (just a guess). Something is blurred out in the photo, I wonder what it could be. Cloverfield hits theaters on 1-18-08. I’m seeing the film tonight and hope to report back as soon as possible.

This movie is way too interested in itself. BY the way; are there any interesting characters in this film or just events and reaction shots? THOUGHT SO.

There are in fact interesting characters that we see through the tapes flashback as it’s being recorded over. I love how people either can’t wait for this movie to come out, or just can’t wait for it to go away. They could have chosen anyone to direct this film, but they went with a guy named Matt Reeves who focuses a lot of development of characters. I think it’s going to be fun for the whole family!

I’ve seen the film and it’s fantastic. Rob has the most development cause cause he’s the main character. The film is great. I loved every minute of it. As far as the photo up top goes, I think that’s an oil tanker instead of an oil rig. I think that’s the bow of the ship broken and turned at a weird clockwise angle. But I could be wrong. Who knows? Peace.

I don’t understand some of the backlash I’m hearing about this movie. Some of my friends have zero desire to see it, ever. The marketing has been brilliant. And what’s not to love, it’s a giant f’n monster movie!!!

Anyone else noticed the Bad Robot robot logo in the rig’s reflection in the water all the way to the right? And I know this is going out on a limb big time here, but maybe the monster has some kind of effect on eletrical things, and thats what the blur is. I mean the first time it roars in the trailer the power goes out temporarily…just saying…. :]

Did anyone else notice you can flip the pictures over? If you flip the one of the guy in the kitchen holding a pan over it has japanese/chinese writing on it. some of the other pics have writing on them as well. nothing interesting. to flip, the picture has to be the top most picture, click and hold while moving your mouse left, right.

I’ve heard that the monster’s eyes are going to be kind of stupid and distracting as all hell. and that the cgi is not that great and really lacking on the large screen. I’ve heard it compared to the lion in I am legend.

Is the picture on top of the tanker picture new? It is of a few jets(one looks like an A-10) and a few destroyers blasting something in the water.
And Jerry Butler… I’ve seen you post something negative(or pseudo negative) in every single post about this movie… You are either it’s biggest fan or you have nothing better to do…

@Jerry Butler - well seeing how this movie has pretty much been seen by nobody who hasn’t already kept the secret since the start and the guy from that other movie site who actually has seen it(confirmed) gave it a glowing review… I duno, I’m not too worried about the monster’s eyes or the CGI
@Required - the characters are interesting actually and there has already been plenty of development through the viral marketing. And it’s not that the movie is too interested in itself. These pictures are all part of the Viral Marketing ARG. Althought if you didn’t know that I can COMPLETLY see why you’d think that.

@Jerry Butler - There have been several other professional reviews (Hollywood Elsewhere, EOnline, Neil Cumpston) all of which have been positive and make no mention of bad cgi. EOnline review even says that this looks like 10 times its budget of 25million. Now if there was only one review claiming it was a work of genius then you maybe right but when most legit people who have seen the movie liked it then your ‘its only Harry Knowles’ argument becomes stale and irrelevant.
@Required - I think you are working for a rival studio trying to spin Cloverfield negatively.
It’s amazing how far some people will go to say something negative about a movie about which we have heard nothing but good things so far.

Saw the sneak preview at 12:00 AM this morning.
Amazing.
Cant say a single bad thing about it.
That wasent the monsters eyes… it was its brain pulsating.
the pics have very little to do with the film.
CGI was awesome.
seriously it seems hard for someone to not like this film.
it even has comedy in it.
i feel a sequel comming on. one in which takes place at the exact same time as the first film, with another group of people using a video camera. maybe even the military’s perspective on it. that way we can find more out about the monsters origin.

The movie needs a sequel, not just to explain the how the monsters lived the attacks, or where he came from, but because it seems like its part of an invasion. The big monster as the mother ship, and and the ones shedding of as infantry. Almost like halo or gears of war.

Why does it ‘need’ a sequel? Why does everything have to be explained in a neat little package? Cloverfield isn’t about the monster. Unlike your standard Kaiju type monster film, the monster in Cloverfield isn’t a character. It is a problem facing the characters. An element per say.

This is a bad “Blair Witch” type movie! I hope all the investers that bankrolled this flop go away laughing that they sold a bill of goods to the audience once again and the laugh was on movie goers.

I took my Family to see this movie…. unfortunately could not stay and watch the thing because, my wife, daughter and me all got motion sickness. I HATE movies done with this kind of “amateur cam
style. For 25 Million, BUY A TRIPOD!
I ended up demanding my money or tickets to see anything else. The theater management gave no trouble, and informed me that they have been having to do this all weekend. They told me that Friday they had a few people actually puke in the theater from the motion.
I can tell you this, I’m not interested in seeing this movie again. and will NOT be buying the DVD, and if the sequel is like this one, then I won’t be interested in seeing that either.

Anthony, if you would’ve stayed to see the entire movie, you’d understand that the movie was based on a character/amateur….holding a video camera…..RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE!! I don’t think that if you were in the middle of an attack, you’d want to set up a tripod, now would you? So, before you trash the film and/or film style, why not use your head and figure out the reason why it was shot like that in the first place?

I don’t have a problem with PART of the film being shown from the 1st person’s perspective through a camcorder, but not the ENTIRE movie!
