IN what way could this be a love story. At the VERY best that was a minor sub-plot. It is indeed a monster film, well crafted through subtle takes on the creature, which is far more effect (one need only look at how well the original Jaws did to see that). Was it a great film, definitely. Is the monster from another planet; why not. :P Though it could just as easily be from Earth. Stranger things have happened.

Nah! I think the monster was really an addition hence that fact that it was "mainly" a love film but other than that I do believe that this monster is from another planet there's no way in hell that It was born here on Earth but yeah this movie was tight.

Okay, so full pics are out now of the detailed Hasbro Cloverfield monster figure. How does this change any opinions about the fan art or the movie?

group of the Hasbro monster pics here:
http://www.kidreviewer.com/2008/02/hasbro-cloverfield-monster-figure.html

(also includes a very large closeup of the face from HD movie clip)

But i didn't like how Hasbro used small pics, and put light-grey on white background, so I blew up the face and added dark background here:

@Mishkaal you're thinking too logically, I guess =)! I mean do you really think, the inventor thought about the monster's growing conditions and such.
I suppose they just invented a monster which is supposed to be mysterious and should just be part of the movie's surroundings to form, as someone has already mentioned, this specific atmosphere, which the main characters (and all the others) have to deal with.
Additionally the end was a perfect preparation for a continuance maybe from a different perspective or something, we'll see :) but I'm looking forward to see it, because I think the movie was entertaining!

Okay, now I would have to say after watching the movie that none of those pics are really accurate, slightly in the way that the body is configured but every single head is inaccurate. I really liked the way the story played out and the movie also put some very lucid thoughts in my head. I haven't read anywhere yet that anyone has thought of this so I will just throw it out there. If the creature was in fact born in the deep ocean, it would not have any eyes because it is pitch black he would need to hunt and see by Sonar Detection kinda like Bats. The claws would be needed for disabling its prey which may or may not be Whales, Giant Squid and the like. Since it probably got its oxygen from a Deepsea vent, which are filled with poisonous fumes, those breathing sacks that many see on the creature near the end may act as a purification/filteration system that takes the other chemicals out of the oxygen it would need to survive. The parasites live off of the body of the creature and feed on the skin/secretions that come off of its body I would assume and left when there became a more lucrative opportunity for sustenance.

That was not the monster. That was part of a satellite that had fallen from the sky like a few days earlier. I believe the story is it went down in the ocean where it was near MGP, who picked it up and tossed it toward the mainland.

I'm pretty sure the monster came from Space. After the camera stopped recording when the bride callapsed on the last two peeps, the tape showed the end of what was originally recorded on the tape. I guess it was from a week prior, when the friends were at the beach//Coney Island maybe. It showed a couple sitting on a ride or something being taped by some1, then the operator of the camera turned towards the ocean to view the view. There was a boat out in the water, and If you watch closely, watch out further in the distance. Right before he turns back towards the two couple, low and behold you'll see the monster drop from the sky.....

They didnt nuke the city, If they did they would not have found the tape because it would have been vaporized! They most likely carpet bombed the city.

I acutally like the one below the pencil and paper one, though the 'monkey-faced' one kinda looks like the creature, though I though its head was a little more slimmer, I could be wrong, movie was good and no, this thing looks nothing like the creature from the Host, good show though

Not to change the subject, but does anyone know of any other 'monster' movies that are in the works? I'm not talking hack-n-slash flicks. I'm talking 'Cloverfield' monsters.

Anyone?

I just saw a sketch of the monster that I think comes closer to the others by far. I've seen it twice now, plus have the screen shots from the final scene to compare it to.

Austin-
I don't know why you say that isn't true about the sound clip played backwards. I actually heard it on YouTube. It's really hard to make out words when it's played backwards, but instead of sounding garbled like it does when played normally, you can hear that weird high-pitched sound they were always pumping through the trailers. That alone tells me it was meant to be listened to backwards. Then there's a definite break in that sound, and it seems like someone's talking, but the audio quality on the vid sucked way too much.

i think the first pic is an awesome drawing but i don't think it looks that much like the monster. In the movie the monster had a neck and i don't think it had a shell of any kind. Plus the arms were different and the face was different.
