/Film reader Ryan S sent in this photo of the beheaded Statue of Liberty from the Paramount lot. I’m being told that the statue is part of the promotion for the Cloverfield premiere, which will be held on the lot next week. Very cool. Check out the photos after the jump.

Update: A few people in the comments believe the photo to be photoshopped. I have confirmed with 4 independent sources that the statue stands within Paramount’s gates. Defamer and few other sites have started to pick up photos of this studio promo as well. I have also updated the story with two new photos (seen above).

That looks SOOOOOOO Photoshopped?!?! Are you sure this is real?? It looks completely out of place and very disproportionate compared to the trees and everything. I need more photos to confirm it’s real…

It doesn’t help matters that the base for it is matt gray - its total plainness jars with the detail of the plinth, making it look fake… The last pic looks much more like it, to be honest.

So, is this the actual model from the movie?
January 11th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
I must say, looks more than a tad fake.
January 11th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
it looks really cool to what i have herd ’bout it!
January 11th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
SO FAKE! Are you kidding me? Really, did you waste time posting this and writing about it, when anyone with one brain cell can see it’s clearly Photoshopped?
…And why am I bothering writing this. Oh-well… ;-P

The article says it’s just a promotional piece. I seriously doubt that a physical model would be used in the actual movie — I’m sure they just filmed it from the helicopter then edited out the head in post.

I have confirmed with 5 different sources that the statue is real.Actually, defamer just posted another photo from another source of the statue.

lol “it looks disproportionate to the trees” . Do you think it is the size of the actual statue of liberty you IDIOT. LOL
January 11th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Just curious, what do you think our enemies in the world think when they see these picks sitting triumphantly in front of one of our own major corporations?

“lol “it looks disproportionate to the trees†. Do you think it is the size of the actual statue of liberty you IDIOT. LOL”
I was thinking the same thing as you haha people have obviously forgotten how movies were made before everything became CGI. Ever see Close Encounters of the Third Kind? Did you really think that spaceship was 40 feet tall? lol

I actually passed by this statue a few hours ago and couldn’t believe it was actually there. It was right in the middle of the entrance behind the gate.

Ha i love it that the title said “spotted” i was expecting it to be inside a sound stage while some photographer creeps in to take the picture…

DISGRACE TO ALL WHO FOUGHT IN WARS AND DIED
TO SEE THE STATUE LIKE THIS - USED FOR MARKETING>
DISGRACEFUL
January 12th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Regarding this not being a statue in the movie since they more than likely just photoshopped…
Well, the fact is by looking at those pics that the studio DID IN FACT wind up paying for a detailed scaled model of the statue, so if it wasn’t used for the production… that would be kinda dumb.

This is not a disgrace. You know what is a disgrace? Our government. Those brave men and women wouldn’t be dead right now if our government wasn’t run by a bunch of clowns.
Instead of getting all pissy over a statue used in a movie and coming down on the movie studios, why don’t you attack the real idiots. Our own government.

Yes someone needs to tell WHN that the statue was a gift from the French and represents liberty not the military of this Country (which I am apart of). The flag yes the statue no.

I can’t believe the lack of common sense of some of the posters here.
“DISGRACE TO ALL WHO FOUGHT IN WARS AND DIED TO SEE THE STATUE LIKE THIS - USED FOR MARKETING> DISGRACEFUL”
What? How p!ssed off are YOU going to be once you see it in the actual movie? WooHoo!!
“Just curious, what do you think our enemies in the world think when they see these picks sitting triumphantly in front of one of our own major corporations?”
I don’t think your enemies will really give a flying f*ck, idiot.
“I must say, looks more than a tad fake.”
Why would anybody BOTHER to fake this, ffs? Jeez, everybody always shouts FAKE! ‘SHOP! to damn near everything. what is wrong with you people. It’s a damn model of the SoL with no head. Is that so hard to believe?
Christ.
If I was the webmaster of this site, I’d seriously consider shutting the whole thing down, if this is the average mentality of the people who visit.

I bet you also voted for bush, think global warming is made up by the ‘liberal media’, and support the invasion and wholesale slaughter of any people who don’t bend over for the entrenched corporate governance.

It’s real. I passed the Paramount lot two hours ago (Melrose Gate) and it’s standing inside clearly visible, just past the security booth.
January 13th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
all the world is photoshopped, wake up Neo
:)
January 17th, 2008 at 9:20 am
You really have to be an idiot to think that picture is actually photoshopped. You can clearly see that there is a guy staring up at the statue. As well as shadows that are being cast from it BEING THERE !!!
