I know there has been an over abundance of Cloverfield posts the last couple days. And as the release date nears next week, it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop. So I apologize in advance for anyone who is sick about hearing this film, but I’m still super hyped.
This morning I got an email from a /Film reader named Gary R, who informed me that the Cloverfield Monster has been caught on video, and it is on the web. I’m not talking about that clip we’re shown you in slow-mo of the monster walking between the buildings, or the viral clip of the monster attacking the Chaui Station. This is a new clip of soldiers shooting at the monster from a distance. It’s short, and no, you don’t get a good look at the monster (but did you really expect to see the monster before the film was released?), but I thought it was worth posting. Check out this new television advertisement titled “Breathless”.

Look at the girl at around 5 seconds into the T.V. spot. Look at her face. It looks as if the upper portion of her face is all swollen. What could have caused that? Normal damage from all comotion? An infection caused by the monster? I guess we’ll have to wait 8 more days to find out.

I think it’s a given that Cloverfield is goning to shatter the opening weekend box office record for January. The real question is will enough people turn out the second weekend to cement the movie as a hit? Myself personally, I’m going opening night cuz I’m curious what the beast looks like. P

I mean think about it. The last Godzilla was pretty big. And they killed him once they drew him out in the open and could launch a couple air to surface missiles at him. Bam, done.
This monster doesn’t even have the ability to burrow and avoid our big guns. Seems like he spends most of his time out in the open clumsily crashing into stuff.
Look at Scorpotron (sp?) in TF. He was a armored but a couple jets with big cannons obliterated him and forced him to surrender.
Are we supposed to just imagine that high powered air warefare doesn’t exist in this world?

ya know, it is pretty annoying that you guys are seriously holding the monster to the standards of realism of Godzilla 1998 when a) it is that very realism that made everyone hate that movie and b) it is the idea of the original Godzilla being all-powerful and impervious to military weaponry that made him such a longstanding cultural icon. like, do you guys want the monster to die after one tank blast? This is a documentary style movie that realistically depicts what would happen if an unrealistic monster attacked NYC, get over it.

I don’t believe he’s saying, “It’s alive! It’s huge”. He’s saying “She’s alive! It’s Rue” which of course means he’s referring to Rue McClanahan of Golden Girls fame. And yes, she is in fact alive at the age of 73. I feel much better now.

I say the head of the monster is not visible, but i do want to say that there is a big arm or leg that crashes down at the end of the shot. Also that isn’t swelling or a tumor, but if you stop the clip at the right frame you will see that it is actually two chins and the girl in the middle. Unless her tumor is growing a beard i would say the first “bump” is Rob’s chin.

If you find the 9 to 10 second spot on the time bar you can click it and it replays once the monster is hit with the weaponry. If you keep clicking you can emulate a slow motion play of the scene. It looks like the monster is taking the damage but then again, maybe it isn’t as impervious to the weapons as people have been thinking because it also looks like the monster falls.

Based on new Ads on the internet posted by Cloverfield its Cthulu, the Ads show the face of monster so I’d say the monster looks like a mix between a lizard,lobster, and whale.
