Cloverfield news, much like the monster, is on a rampage. Paramount has released 25 production photos from the JJ Abrams-produced monster film. Check them out after the jump. As always, click to enlarge.
On the eve of his departure for Japan, Rob (Michael Stahl-David) sees his going-away party as an opportunity to confess unresolved feelings and tie up loose ends. His agenda takes an unexpected turn when a jolt shakes the revelers. The crowd quiets down to watch news reports of an earthquake, then rushes to the roof to assess the damage. A fireball explodes on the distant horizon. A power failure follows. Confusion gives way to panic as the partygoers stumble through the blackout and into the streets.
Amid the human screams and one inhuman roar, Rob and his friends must traverse a landscape that has changed, overtaken by something otherworldly, terrifying, monstrous…

It’s so close to release. I can’t wait to see this flick. I hope it lives up to the hype.
January 10th, 2008 at 3:14 am
I, too, hope it lives up to hype. It’s too early to judge, but it hasn’t been TOO overexposed.
January 10th, 2008 at 3:16 am
I have high expectations. Lets see what happens after the hiatus is over…
January 10th, 2008 at 6:39 am
It look so cheap, Mexican Godzilla!
January 10th, 2008 at 10:06 am
Looking at those pics, are we positive that Kevin Smith didn’t direct this?
January 10th, 2008 at 10:14 am
this movie is so wrong. this is 9/11 exploitation to the extreme.
a headless decapitated liberty statue, which is the main image/theme they are selling. The people making this film arent really loyal to this country anyway because they have dual citizenship with a greater loyalty to that other country, not this one. i will be boycotting this. i will not pay for this kind of imagery.
January 10th, 2008 at 10:27 am
Good. Then don’t.
January 10th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Blahblah:
you are an idiot. They have been making monster movies that destroyed NY long before 9/11 and you comparing a movie to that real life event. just proves it.
And we are all glad that you will not be going to a theather.
January 10th, 2008 at 11:05 am
you are so dumb. Do you not realize they could not sell this movie without that image, of decapitating liberty? that is the main point they are getting across to milk the current climate and you know it. the ‘monster’ makes it a point to behead the statue. what other monster movie has this kind of statement? the thing is against freedom and liberty, that is the undertone of this.and Gee, where did they get that tone from, moron? think about that while you reward them 15 bucks. enjoy your terrorist porn at your “theather.”
January 10th, 2008 at 11:19 am
i think blahblah has a point. im avoiding it too. you call him an idiot for his opinion? you are so dumb. Do you not realize they could not sell this movie without that image, of decapitating liberty? that is the main point they are getting across to milk the current climate and you know it. the ‘monster’ makes it a point to behead the statue. what other monster movie has this kind of statement? the thing is against freedom and liberty, that is the undertone of this.and Gee, where did they get that tone from? think about that while you reward them 15 bucks. enjoy this terrorist porn at your “theather.”
January 10th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Good to see you have your own opinion Lisa.
January 10th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
ok, before this turns into a big argument, first don’t post your opinion on a article about a movie coming out, unless you expect to get in a fight over it, second, its a movie guys, don’t look to deep into it, i know it seems “wrong” or whatever but come on, comparing it to 9/11? its a monster movie, and also the head of the statue of liberty in the street image was taking from a really old movie called “escape from new york” its all showmanship, not exploitation
January 10th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
lol at you calling Escape from NY a “really old movie”.
Kids.
January 10th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
haha yeah that was my mistake 1997 isnt old now is it lol
January 10th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
I was checking out this moving for that exact 9/11 exploitation reason. It smacks of that one documentary that consists entirely of hand held, amateur shot footage of 9/11 (i forget the title). Panicked People wander around a terrified and confused NYC. It has the same feel as the trailer. I can only assume they made this with that style in mind. Of course you can draw parallels to 9/11
I’ll pay to see this, though. On dvd probably.
January 10th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Really am looking forward to seeing this film. Lost is such an incredible tv series… i just cant see J.J. getting in over his head with something that could put a stain on his reputation. I just hope that there is more to the film that the trailers show at this point. Would have been amazing if we wouldnt have seen a second and third trailer. Also, if they show the monster or whatever it is, I hope they dont ruin the entire film with it’s image (ex. “Signs”)
January 10th, 2008 at 4:11 pm

Actually the decapitated head of the statue of liberty was inspired by the “Escape from New York” poster even though there was no actual scene of such. Cloverfield is what it is, a good ole monster flick.
January 10th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Should of read a bit further down lol but yeah what Kaz said. Sorry man :)
January 10th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
My only criticism of what I’ve seen so far is that once again its another monster movie set in New York… Aren’t there any other cities worth filming in the U.S? or how about setting it somewhere else in the world… just a thought.
Aside from that little rant, I’m really looking forward to this :-)
January 10th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
4 pictures down, they’re fighting the parasites!
January 10th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Is this a spin off of transformers? Is it an evil angry transformer that destroys NYC?
January 10th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
To those using the word “exploitation”, you are way off the mark. I’m sure this movie will be just as much about 9/11 as “Godzilla” was about the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It’s impossible not to draw connections, and I think this film, though probably deep under the surface, will use those connections to tell a story about how people in this day and age react to an unfathomable crisis.
“Terrorist porn”… That’s just about the silliest bunch of nonsense I’ve ever heard…
January 10th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
exactly jacobi, the movies main focus will be on the characters and reactions about this crazy situation, thats why the home vid cam angle, not beheading liberty or its meaning. thoguh now in this day in age, its hard not to draw connections of something bad that has happened in the past…
January 10th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
@LeakedMovie Spy 4 pictures down? I don’t think the camera man and the 2 other guys are doing much fighting! LMAO
Nah I knew you meant 5.
January 11th, 2008 at 1:33 am
Ok, so this is not about exploitation of 9/11.
Yes, have your opinions, but use your brains.
Remember the Japanese? They got bombed and made Godzilla.
We get hit and make Cloverfield.
Ok… and? That makes us terrorist?
So… with this logic the Japanese were terrorist because we bombed them?
OH! Ok, sorry, now your opinion and logic make sense now that I put it like that. Sorry my mistake. :D
*shoots self*
January 11th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
will you people stop going on about 11/9! (im english! :-))
Its just a monster film and i for one am looking foreward to it. the comment that it is terrorist porn is just ridiculous!! bet that guy owns lots of guns and his house is a fortress against the evel commie/muslim/foreign world that are all out to get america! I do think they should make disaster movies in other cities though. I’d like to see washington destroyed! :-)
January 11th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
i think jacobi summed it all up. anyways, blah and lisa, no matter what you say…this movie will still be in theaters near you =) so complain all you want because nobdy is paying attention to your bitching. sure 9/11 was tragic, but lets be thankful that its over. its in the past now, its history, nobdy will forget the people who were lost, but i think its time to move on…seriously.
ps- 7 DAYS WOOT WOOT.
January 11th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
wasnt washington destroyed by aliens in independence day?
January 12th, 2008 at 4:02 am
as well as in “Live free or Die hard” sheesh… no one complained about the big white and fancy going down then… or is it that the people who complain got nothing else better than to start stupid speculationi and create drama for no reason…. wasnt that what high school was for???
January 12th, 2008 at 11:57 am
As usual, overly patriotic morons ruin everything they touch. Have all of you noticed that? Everybody was fine, going about their business, and then..BAM!! Here comes the standard-issued wingtards with their high morals and preachy mentality to ruin it for everybody. Belligerant pedants with a bad disposition and a video game level undestanding of the world. And what the hell does double nationality has to do with the price of potatoes in Toledo? (right over their heads it goes)
Movies about monsters in NY are as old as the early days of cinema. It is an standard and a fine tradition I am glad continues. Like all great themes of storytelling, it is a subject matter that just lives in the mind and heart of all. What city are they gonna choose? You got NY, LA and CH. Any other city would not do worldwide maketing wise.
January 12th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
This move is not about 911. It’s just a monster film!! don’t take it to the head ppl.. relax..
January 13th, 2008 at 11:01 am
Blah blah, congratulations. By your logic, you just handed the “war on terrorism” to your enemies. Terrorists 1, you 0. You’re going to avoid going to a movie with your own money on your own time exercising your own free will and rights as a citizen because you think a monster invading New York is imagery akin to terrorism. Well, good for you, Bush the Third, you’re really showin’ those people that want us to stop living our lives and be paralyzed by hate and fear by stopping your daily life out of hate and fear. Yeah, you show ‘em who’s boss. Mighty’s right, you’re trying to ruin it for the rest of us, but there’s NOTHING patriotic about your ridiculous statement. Can I have your popcorn? Hope your bunker is comfy. The rest of us are going to continue living our lives, enjoying what’s left of our freedom, and exercising our right to point at you and laugh. Roll credits.
January 13th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
wow. this really screws me up.now i can’t watch bring it on again cuz anytime the cheerladers do the human pyramid it’s gonna remind me of gitmo
January 14th, 2008 at 12:20 am
Since this is a monster movie and all…is it supposed to be like a big monster (ex.godzilla) or a smaller one like freddy or jason (thats all that comes to mind at the moment). Either way i hope its not as corny as godzilla or freddy or jason movies…not to say they werent good or anything but…
January 14th, 2008 at 3:17 am
haha i love how those people talking about “terrorist porn” never responded back, maybe because they realize that those were just blindingly ridiculous remarks?
January 14th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
I have to say as a New Yorker who lived through 9/11, I found the images in the trailer extremely upsetting. Whether the filmmakers intended it or not, they brought me back to that horrid day.
So, exploitive or not, my personal feeling is that unless I’m told that this is an absolute “must-see” I will avoid this film.
And yes, I do wish that filmmakers would pick on another city, but not because of some “oh they are pissing on liberty” crap — I just, having gone through a real tragedy here, flinch at seeing fake ones portrayed in the aftermath. (And yes, I’m fully aware that these sort of images have been part of filmmaking for years–from King Kong to Deep Impact, etc… They just have more personal impact since 9/11.)
January 14th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Gorgo,Reptilicus, and the like were monsters on the rampage now,we have Cloverfield. I just hope it’s a decent movie, but I don’t know if I’ll check it out right away though. I’ll be hearing the w.o.m. reviews and see if it gets a 2 thumbs up. After reading some spoiler info,it’s too bad that certain characters get offed quickly. I hope some of that info I’ve been reading was just red herring stuff.
January 15th, 2008 at 11:56 am
giant monsters have trashed land marks for as long i can remember, a brontosaurs ran wild in london during the lost world, kingkong has a terrible time with empire state building and the twin towers in the mego game and model from the seventies remake, the staue of libertiy has been trashed in octopuss 2, i haven’t seen it you didn’t miss a thing. all of tokoyo land marks have been pummeled into the ground(my typing stinks) so the new beastie from jj’s flick is keeping tradtion, besides what else would rather have seen crash in the street a chunk of trump towers? so turn of your brain, buy popcorn and candy a drink and have fun, i will. peace.
January 15th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
escape from new york is a 80’s, 97 gaves the seqeul escape from la. both star former disney family movie icon kurt russel, snake pliskin wore tennis shoes, probably deal with people to young to remember to get the gag.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:24 am
get ready for one hellof a ride.
its coming……
January 17th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
its about a monster yay! but for those who just try to bring things down because A LOT of other people want to see it or like sumthing is retarded! i mean come on, JJ has been excited about this, and not by anything ive seen….bringin any refrence to terrorism. A monster movie comes out and miss liberty dies and its terrorism….actull terrorist films come out and its heroic….noobz
get lives and watch CLOVERFIELD!!! woot!!
January 20th, 2008 at 2:31 am
i totally agree with dr. hoffman the most terrifying scenes in cloverfield involve no monster but the destruction of liberty itself.the harrowing image of dust covered citizens of n.y. city walking amongst rubble of a great city brings back nightmare images of 9/11 the movie was way 2 short.
January 20th, 2008 at 2:36 am
in the 25 screen shots provided why is robs shirt looking a different colour minus the stripes than the early parts of the film?
January 20th, 2008 at 2:50 am
just a thought the head fell off the statue of liberty thru neglect & decay in escape from new york starring kurt russell.the head was ripped of and hurled down a street several blocks away in cloverfield hardly the same emotive response i think?
January 21st, 2008 at 1:14 am
aw man this movie was awsome it was really sad when that girl that got bitten died
January 21st, 2008 at 2:46 am
*Warning Spoilers*
Ok i have just seen the movie and have a few things to say. First of all the movie was awesome, great idea, good creativity, and very good acting. However I feel it left to much unexplained, don’t get me wrong, i do like the suspense but i think that they layered it on to thick, i would have like to have known*spoiler*why the girl exploded other than the fact she got bitten that just completely lost me, second what the heck were the things coming off the monsters body, besides pains in the ass, third what is the monster and how did it get here not where it came from(frankly i dont care), fourth why did everyone act so calm when they were running next to a friggen fifty foot monster with rockets exploding all around, and how come everyone survived the helicopter crash except the trained pilot. OK, not that my bad criticism is out of the way i would like to move onto the things i liked about it. I thought that the camcorder viewpoint was excellent (except for the intense shaking at some parts), I liked most of the suspense parts, I liked that you kept it Pg-13 but still had pretty gorey and nasty parts in it, liked the useage of comedy in it and the fact that even in the worst of situations they can keep a light mood, and finally how you never actually know what happened after the nuke hit. All around i would give this movie a 8 out of 10 because the story and suspense was great, it just was to hard to follow in some parts.

February 12th, 2008 at 12:45 am
The dang monster is just impervious to injury,it doesn’t feel a thing ,it just gets mad and walks around in circles. The last segment of the movie, when Hud graps the vid camera after the helo crash and the monster walks up to him,was just weird,it didn’t look as large as it did in previous scenes the Clover had. Rob and Beth’s adreneline must’ve work overtime, lol, oh well, the movie wasn’t too bad,so what direction is it going to go in the sequel? since the viral video feed was done in this one…..?
April 19th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
wat happened to the girl that got bit on cloverfield
