Starship Troopers: Marauder

Starship Troopers: MarauderPaul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers is now aged more than a decade, and while it’s common for fans to say that the film was ahead of its time, it’s better to say that it arrived outside the time-space continuum altogether. In a perfect world, all movies would be $100 million midnight events satirizing various establishments while offering generous dollops of startling sci-fi special effects, nudity, splattered guts and the Doog. In reality, the second Starship Troopers sequel, Starship Troopers: Marauder is headed to a shelf near you, as these new photos from the flick attest. No glimpses of the giant bugs, though.

Casper Van Dien, who occasionally resides in Spinal Tap’s “Where are they now” file, is back to resume his role as the newly appointed general Johnny Rico. The budget for Marauders is a healthy $20 million, with Verhoeven pal and screenwriter Edward Neumeier (Robocop, SST) directing the franchise’s latest bug war. A release date is TBA.

So, did any of you see the first sequel, 2004’s Hero of the Federation? Our comments section can have therapeutic qualities, so discuss below.

What?! Starship Trooper 2 in 2004? What?! Did it went directly to DVD or something?

  3. Gravatar

Don’t go see the first sequel. I beg you, Mr. Anderson. Please. Please don’t let them earn money on it, and think more should be made (but I see its too late for that….)
Let me tell you about the sequel, its all in a tower(or building or something, I don’t know, the whole set looks the same, but I know its one structure) and its all dark, all the time. I swear it was homemade. I made the awful choice to rent it, OH WHY DID I DO IT? Seriously, its not good, its not interesting, its not even worth the “I wonder how they extend the universe” viewing. Its just bad, and annoying, and piss poor.
And to answer your question, yes it was straight to DVD.

    Thanks Jay.

Anyone who suffered through Starship Troopers 2, just let it all out right here in the comments. I want to hear all of the regret, pain and anguish. ;)

    Worst movie ever…

    Decent effects though.

  6. Gravatar

Well, in fact, I read in quite a few places that the first sequel wasn’t all that bad. Nothing amazing but decent.

    Can anyone confirm ?

ST2 had really good special effects and gore-effects, but the story was worse than the acting. They introduce a new breed of humans, that can hear the thoughts of the bugs… at the time it was worth seeing for the effects but i’m not sure well they have aged since then… if you’re in the mood for some sci-fi/horror camp then you might appreciate it enough not to feel ripped off for renting it…

starship troopers2 put me in a fricking coma! well obviously not but you get the point it sucked ass! i hope to hell this one is better like 100% better please god!

Yeah I’m a MASSIVE fan of the first.
Number two was awful. The only thing that was worth my time was Kelly Carlson walking around topless for a whole lot of the movie.
But I think that is more representative that my time isn’t worth much rather than anything else.
However, I will be first in line to get a copy of SST3.
But I think that is more representative that my time isn’t worth much rather than anything else. ;-P

Wow… thanks people, I’ll rather convince myself that ST3 is the only sequel arround.

Too bad they made sequels for this movie. It had the perfect ending….the propaganda reel at the end was a fitting tribute to the stupidity of earth continuing the war.

Oh well I really like Casper Van Dien, its good he’s finally doing something other than Christian movies.

    ST-2 was pretty bad.
I watched it really late at night when all in my house were sleeping and I kept thinking to myself “I should just shut this off and go to bed.”

It wasn’t the worst movie I ever saw but way down at the bottom.
Had some hot nudity, and the little bugs were pretty good. But it was a horror flick for the most part. Like a zombie film I’d say.

It had almost nothing to do with the original.
It was really just a ripoff of the name Starship Troopers. That is the only reason I rented it.

    BUT,
I will rent ST3 even if it gets really bad reviews. I can’t help myself.

jedk, that was exactly my feeling, i watched it alone late at night, and now that i think about it, i did turn it off and go to bed, so im not really sure how it ends, i just know i was sad, because ST1 wasnt at wal mart when i went, only st2.

Did anyone notice how they used bug footage from the first film in the second? It was a blatant cut and paste in places!
To anyone who hasnt seen it - dont.

The long, lost tales of SST 2 survivors! Gotta love it. Hah.

The first direct-to-DVD sequel must have made a lot of bank for them to greenlight a $20 million follow-up. And I can’t that the first image above intrigues me a lil bit.

Starship Troopers 2 was a good flick for what it was… the clasic story of what happens when a bunch of soldiers are cut off from the rest of the universe and some nasty little bug get to crawling intotheir brains and making them try to either ‘infect’ the rest or kill them. Of course we have our super soldier whom is some bad ass who ends up saving the girl and the day by sacraficing himself in a blaze of gory glory.

The thing is is thwat it was something that would have been a great action-horror flick back in the early 80’s.Think it would have done really well along side movies such as ‘Sreamers’

Casper van Wossname is alive? Casper van Wossname is in a movie? Someone cares?

  18. Gravatar

The only good reason to see SST2 is the chance to see Kelly Carlson (Kimber in Nip/Tuck) naked in a few scenes. But those scenes are badly lit, so don’t waste your money renting it.

Loved the first one. It’s one of the first dvds I bought!

Yo, guys ST1 was great and ST2 i had the same feelings for. Then again i am a ST nerd. i even have the whole tv seris on dvd. Dont get me wrong though i sure do think ST3 would be much better. Did any of you wath the preview? Get a load of that big scorpion shooting lazers from its tail.
