AVH - Alien vs. Hunter?

Found this photo on Flickr. I wonder how many stupid people rent this direct-to-dvd rip-off thinking it’s part of the AVP (Alien vs. Predator) series? The film has an estimated budget of $500,000, and is currently getting a 1.4 out of 10 user rating on the Internet Movie Database. Produced by The Asylum, a company known for it’s cheap rip-off DVD movies, which also includes: Transmorphers, Snakes on a Train, I Am Omega, Da Vinci Treasure, HG Wells’ War of the Worlds, and Pirates of Treasure Island.

I found the movie trailer, watch in horror (not because it’s scary in any traditional sense…) below.

Ah, The Asylum - the people who brought you I Am Omega, Snakes on a Train, The Da Vinci Treasure, Pirates of Treasure Island and the soon-to-be-released 100,000,000 BC.

There was a nice feature on them in Empire a month or two back. Basically, Blockbuster will turn to them and say “We need another Western” and they’ll put one into production. Their more recent movies are all… “inspired,” shall we say, by the latest blockbusters, and tend to make it to DVD before their originals.

Despite their reputation, I am generally intrigued in Snakes on a Train: it cannot possibly be any worse than Snakes on a Plane.

For anyone interested, here’s a link to an informative article on the Asylum and the straight-to-DVD trend in the NY Times Magazine:

it is bad beyond belief but it made me laugh you can see the editor found the time remap function in FCP .its one of those film that the dvd box cover has the highest production values a great find. However think on this dodgy camera, unknown actors looking scared, random gun fire, monsters you just cant make out…….may be if you put this trailer in the theaters with out a title and no info on imdb

    this just might work

The Da Vinci treasure - so great.

Really cool article from Hunter Stephenson’s post… Actually makes me want to watch one of the movies. These guys seem like a couple of jokers that genuinely love making movies, and this is the only way they can do it.

Mcguffin: Unknown actors? Dude, William Katt isn’t unknown … he’s the Greatest American Hero!

Seriously, how bad could this be? Probably not much worse than AVP was. I got hold of “Pirates of Treasure Island” and managed to sit through the entire thing. Almost.

  9. Gravatar

Yup the GAH himself William Katt. Dude, House was cool I’ll give him that one.

Whooo could it be, believe it or not it’s just meeee….

Sounds like something I would love to see over on my horror movie blog! I review them.

But this is just plain bad

  13. Gravatar

That was AWESOME. The people over at The Asylum are geniuses.

  14. Gravatar

HAHAHA oh my god this is the best movie ever. Next to those FrogTown movies!

  15. Gravatar

I hate it when they can only film somewhere in Topanga CA, looks like the same location as all the B si-fi channel movies. There always filiming in the CA woods.

  16. Gravatar

    Motherf*ckin snakes on a train!

  17. Gravatar

ALso tis pretty bad when your credits start of with the name “Dedee Pfeifer”

  18. Gravatar

Ha, beautiful. Didn’t this just air on the Sci-Fi Channel? Hmm, maybe I was just dreaming it.

Someone up top mentioned that it was filmed in Topanga, CA. He’s probably right, but it looks like they filmed the entire film in about 300 square feet and just had the characters run back and forth for 90 minutes. That and the fact that all the exterior shots in the trailer take place during the day. Way to show off your cheapjack alien costume there, guys.

AND yes, I might have to give this one a whirl, though, truth be told, I tried watching I Am Omega and cut out about 10 minutes in.

Hey check this out: http://www.theasylum.cc/product.php?id=139 it’s their newest a mock-buster of “Cloverfield” named “Monster” and it doesn’t look half bad.

I remember seeing Dedee in a tiny role in ‘Falling Down’, and thinking she was good, probably going to see more of Michelle’s little sister. Years later, she’s in this! Big sis sure didn’t pull any strings eh?
