Choke

The two movies I’m most excited to see at Sundance this year are Morgan Spurlock’s Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden and the big screen adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s (author of Fight Club) novel Choke. Collider has gotten their hands on eight new production photos from the film. Check out the photos after the jump. As always, click to enlarge.

Choke

Official Plot Synopsis: Victor Mancini, a sex-addicted med-school dropout, keeps his increasingly deranged mother, Ida, in an expensive private mental hospital by working days as a historical reenactor. At night he runs a scam where he deliberately chokes in upscale restaurants to form parasitic relationships with the wealthy patrons who “save” him. When, in a rare lucid moment, Ida reveals that she has withheld the shocking truth of his father’s identity, Victor must enlist the aid of his best friend, Denny, a recovering chronic masturbator, and his mother’s beautiful attending physician, Dr. Paige Marshall, to solve this mystery before the truth of his possibly divine parentage is lost forever.

Adapted from the acclaimed novel by Chuck Palahniuk, CHOKE tickles the funny bone as it dives into darker areas of human behavior. At the heart of the film is yet another staggering performance by Sam Rockwell as Victor. He fully inhabits the character and nails both the comedic and dramatic aspects with indelible timing and delivery. A delicious blend of fresh writing, juicy performances, and sharp directing, CHOKE is actually quite easy to swallow.

Can’t wait to see this movie. Choke is by far my favorite of Palahniuk’s works. I’ll be curious as to what scenes from the book actually make the cut. There is some absolutely insane shit in that book.

I am dying to see this. … I gotta admit…that dude is not how I imagined Denny would look at all. (and if they were gonna release a photo of him…It really shoulda been of him in the stockade…since he spends so much time in it in the book. heheheh. )
I appreciate the photos though and am anxiously awaiting the early review.

this is turning out to look like some sort of stupid comedy. in reality the book is so DARKLY humorous that only the insane like myself and all other palahniuk fans actually find it funny.
    when it really isnt.
and the only reason why “normal” people think its funny when you tell them about a certain scene, is because its just so ridiculous

i dont know… my hopes were extremely positive until i see these production photos..

and isnt Paige Marshall supposed to be an older lady? but FINE none the less???

i’m sorry but its looking like it may be turning into something like that of the Heartbreak Kid

    hmm….

Wow, Taylor, I don’t know how you’re taking so much from these photos. The tone of the movie isn’t at all clear from just looking at five or six snapshots. And I don’t believe Paige’s age is ever made an issue in the books, I always pictured her as young.

I agree with Taylor completely on the movie. I have seen the trailer for Choke and just as Taylor said it seemed to me it was played out as a stupid comedy. Choke was one of my favorite books by Chuck and I am just a little sad to see it turn out this way for the movie.

For me, the actors they picked for the characters are way off from what I imagined in my head and from the book’s descriptions. I was wondering if anybody else felt the same. It is suppose to have a feel of a darkly humorous story just as fight club did at times. So I just wondered like I said before if any other Chuck Palahniuk fans felt this movie might not be portrayed correctly and turn out to be a let down as I feel it might be.
