My good friend Alex at FirstShowing.net, published his top 10 favorite movie posters of the year, and I was shocked at some of the badly executed photoshop designs that topped his list. I thought I could bring a whole new batch of posters to the table, so below you can find my top 20 movie posters of 2007.
I wasn’t able to narrow the list down to just ten, so you’ll have to deal with twice as many. Keep in mind I’m going entirely off of design. The movie, the film’s story, the actors and directors involved do not matter what-so-ever. I’m also only looking at films which were released in 2007. Let’s begin…
Across The Universe
Black Snake Moan
The Bourne Ultimatium
Captivity
Dedication
Gone Baby Gone
Grindhouse
Hostel: Part II
Into The Wild
King of Kong
My Kid Could Paint That
The Nines
Premonition
The Savages
Sicko
Smokin Aces
Sunshine
Sweeney Todd
3:10 to Yuma
Zodiac
What do you think? Was there any posters I missed? What were your favorite one sheets of 2007?

I was wondering which ones you specifically didn’t like of Alex’s picks. Thanks for a great list, as well.

Some nice choices here. I especially like the Black Snake Moan collection and The Savages. I agree with you about your friends list though. There are some stinkers on there. Although, I do love the My Blueberry Nights one he chose.

Dedication is mediocre at best. The Nines I don’t like. The Savages is okay but it’s trendy to like it. And Sunshine, despite how much I LOVED the movie, I do NOT like that poster. HIs face is terribly cropped into that random curved sun-like piece of it. THAT is not a good poster, THAT is terrible Photoshopping and I’m not excited to see that on your list. Otherwise, it’s not a bad selection, but still not better than mine!
The original reigns supreme!

I would have included My Blueberry Nights on my list but the film gets released in 2008, not 2007 in the U.S,

Premonition…Hee hee. The poster is as bad as the movie. There will be blood had a cool close-up poster of Lewis’ face.

These are good, but I also really liked the posters for Atonement and Cloverfield.

Cloverfield hits theaters in 2008, not 2007, so it wasn’t eligible for this year’s listing.

Where is the poster for the movie “300?”
That poster created a strong buzz for the movie long before it came out.
January 7th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Yes, the movie ‘Premonition’ sucked out loud. So did the movie, ‘Sunshine.’ I would have walked out on that movie on an airplane.
The poster for ‘3:10 to Yuma’ was great.

I really like all of the posters you’ve listed - they’re all good choices. I particularly love the 3:10 to Yuma and Black Snake Moan posters.

Pretty good choices. Check out the French Zodiac poster, it’s very different than the American one, and pretty cool.
Anyway, I skimmed through the IMPAwards website and here’s what I came up with:
American movies: The Lookout, The Invisible, The Hitcher, Death Sentence (the one where Kevin Bacon is holding a bat), American Gangster, The Brave One, Contract Killer, Catch And Release, Stardust, the Japanese poster for Earth, and the French poster for Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead. The Distubia poster is pretty good, but I don’t know. I don’t like the repeat image in his binoculars.
French movies: Persepolis, Roman De Gare, Le Serpent, Jacquou Le Croquant, Eden Log, Naissance Des Pieuvres, U.V., Hellphone. (Also check out 2006’s Ne Le Dis A Personne)
Indian movies: Jhoom Barabar Jhoom
Be sure to check them out and get back to me about it.
PS: don’t forget what I believe are the very best posters of the year: the stunning poster for Sydney White and the unbelievable poster for oscar-contender Blonde and Blonder. Send them to the Louvre!

Way better selections than the ones at Firstshowing.net. I give you points alone for selecting the Captivity poster, as I think it was overlooked because of how bad the movie was.

I didn’t know those Smokin’ Aces posters existed. The only promotion I ever saw it was the Rent rip-off version.

Yeah, I’m not sure how 300 could not be on this list.
