Karen Kusama to direct Diablo Cody's Jennifer's Body

Karyn Kusama has signed on to direct Jennifer’s Body, Diablo Cody’s follow-up to Juno. The story follows a demon-possessed Megan Fox who begins eating boys in her small Minnesota town. It’s one of those stories that could be pretty cool or really bad depending on how the material is handled.

Kusama broke onto the scene with GirlFight in 2000, which won the Grand Jury prize at Sundance. Kusama, who also took home the directing award, went on to helm the really horrible live-action adaptation of AEonFlux starring Charlize Theron. But I have faith in both Kusama and Diablo. And better yet, Jason Reitman is producing. But will Fox Atomic find someway to screw this one up like all their other releases?

Jennifer’s Body begins shooting in March 2008. No release date has been announced.

I read the script a few weeks ago. It’s actually about the friend of the demon-possessed girl, who must stop her. I wasn’t too thrilled with the script, especially after having read and seen Juno– hopefully the draft I read is just a “vomit pass.” Part of what made me cringe while reading it was the dialog between the two main girls — I guess you could call it tampon humor. They call each other “Vagisil” and “Monistat” and then when the demon girl is stabbed and bleeding she asks for a tampon to plug the hole. Different? Sure. Compelling? Meh.

    I wonder why Jennifer’s Body isn’t listed on IMDB.com yet…

You forgot to mention the Diablo Cody used to be a stripper.

Tavis - Some of that sounds disgusting. Hoping this picture is good though.
