Cloverfield Monster Attacks

The Cloverfield viral game has finally begun to catch up with the film, which releases in less than two weeks. First up, Our friends at Uruloki informed us that Tagruato, the Japanese drilling company that owns Slusho, has just suffered a huge setback. The company has issued the following statement:

“There has been an altercation at the Chaui Station. Although details are limited at present time, be assured that Tagruato is taking every measure necessary to ensure the safety and well being of all staff and crew. Specialty teams have been deployed, and are working aggressively to restore harmony at the site. The cause of the problem is currently being investigated, although it is suspected that an eco-terror cell is responsible for the disturbance. top investigators We have on our side . Everything will be resolved shortly, and all problems will be fixed. If you have any questions, please contact us at +81-3-5403-6318 for further instructions.”

Watch these fictional Italian, Spanish and German news clips to see AWESOME firsthand footage of the Chaui Station meltdown, and the first (off screen) appearances of the Cloverfield Monster.

Update: Dennis has received translations:

[START]

This is an amazing story. Three short and highly dramatic scenes have just been disclosed, which seem to be showing the total loss of a rig in the middle of the ocean. The rig seems to be Chouai Station, which lies in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and sank a few days ago, even though there’s been no official confirmation of the incident.

This is the video, shot from a helicopter which is either approaching or leaving the rig:

[footage]

This rig harbours over 300 workers and scientists. The video seems to show it breaking apart and sinking in a matter of minutes, even though this kind of modern
rigs are designed to keep afloat under the worse circumstances up to 24 hours.

It’s something absolutely extraordinary. Experts are studying this footage and trying to determine the causes of this tragedy. Some sources even suggest the
rig may have suffered some kind of attack.

Tagruato, the Japanese company that runs the rig was forced to appear publicly and make a hasty statement when the footage was disclosed.

Their spokesperson said it has been confirmed that the Tidowave eco group was in the area when the incident took place and he maintains that the group has
infiltrated Tagruato operations in the past causing damage. This footage, shot with a mobile phone on the rig seem to confirm this possibility:

[footage]

Whatever the cause, the violence of this event was registered by the Seismological Institute in Ribadeo (real town on the north-western coast of Spain). The scientists at the institute doubt this kind of effect can be the result of a human-made explosion.

The incredible speed, the scale of the event, and the sheer drama of this incident are clearly shown by this last piece of footage, apparently shot by some crew members of the rig while trying to escape.

[footage]

These are truly shocking images. We have no news about the fate of these people and the person who was behind the camera. We can only hope they could somehow survive. It seems…

[end]

And also, the banner on the bottom of the screen reads “A loss of jobs because of the construction’s (loss) is foreseen”.

German

About 1300 km from the coast of New York 3 days ago a drilling did sink for unknown reasons. recently we got dramatic pictures from the colapse of the platform by international news agencys. (man screams stuff i can’t understand) The videos show the sinking of Inexplicable reasons which is also for experts hard to understand. at the moment of the disaster 355 workers were on board. the chuai platform was opened in september 2007 and is one of the biggest drillings in the world. it is operated by the big japanese company tagruato wich has it’s central in tokyo. the high advanced drilling system was planned by the company zwichau engeneering in leipzig (leipzig is an east-german town) under the leadership of the graduated engineer dominik möltken. we asked him if the colapse could be caused by a construction mistake. dominik möltken:”from structural reasons there are no evidences that a failure of the basic structure or of one of the security systems could cause such a catastrophe. this is just impossible. this is physically not possible.”

although the videos are of very poor quality it seems as you can notice a gun fire from the platform. in the past tagruato was already accused to have a big private army and experts investigate at the moment if the escape-behaviour of the crew is caused by a para-military attack.

actuall news report that people where killed, but tagruatos spokesman denies that. Yet it is unclear if germans were on board.

/Film: Next up, Rob has been hired to work for Slusho! The following comes from Rob’s myspace blog, via CloverfieldClues:You can’t drink just six…
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

So I got a job offer, and it’s everything I wanted. More money, more power, more creative freedom. I’d even have up to five people working under me, and you know how much I’ve always wanted underlings. One catch — I need to move to freakin’ JAPAN! The job is the V.P. of Marketing and Promotions for SLUSHO! brand “happy drink.” Apparently it’s all the rage in Asia. I’d be part of a team tasked with replicating the drink’s popularity in the Western world. Here’s a link to their most recent TV spot: http://www.slusho.jp/contest/sample/medium.html Bizarre, I know. I’m sure
Hud would love it. They want us to come up with a more accessible angle to hook an American audience.

When I said I’d be willing to leave NYC for the new gig, I was thinking maybe Chicago or Toronto, maybe L.A. Japan is a whole other extreme. I’m not a particularly worldly fellow, and I’d definitely be in store for some major culture shock. But you know what? Maybe this is exactly the jolt my lame little life needs. A fresh start, and all the clichés that go with it. I’m cautiously psyched. I told them I needed the weekend to think it over, but I’m pretty sure I’m gonna take it. I mean, I can’t think of a good enough reason not to.

/Film:
A comment explains how Hawk, one of the characters seen in the trailer advertising wearing a Slusho! t-shirt, actually got the t-shirt:

Hawk - My Japanese friend Kuroki paid me off in Slusho once to settle a bet. That shit is delicious. I’ve been craving more ever since I tried it. Your job will be a piece of cake, Slusho sells itself. Please tell me you get a free lifetime supply or something.

Rob Hawkins - They gave me some t-shirts at the interview, you want one?

HUD - Dude I just googled Slusho, did you know they are a subsidiary of some evil oil company called Tagruato? We both know how much you hate oil (you always say “no oil” when you order a hoagie), so you better turn down the job and stay here and live with me forever and ever.

LenaDia - Gay.

Lil - Rob that’s crazy! How soon would you have to leave?

Rob - A few weeks, around the middle of the month they said.

Beth - Japan!? Oh my god, Rob! Come over this weekend so we can talk about it?

/Film: I agree with Dennis, someone should tell Rob to change his flight to the 17th of January. :)

  • aldude
they are really trying to make this look like real life or what! still the the thick plottens.
  • Mike
tentacle on the left leg of the rig when it buckles
  • Finally! Something other than the trailer!
  • Danatic
    That screech sends chills! Awesome!
  • Is this going to be in Cloverfield?
  • No this is a prequel to cloverfield
  • Nick O.
are there any spoilers in any of these videos before I watch them? cause I don't want to if there are.
  • Nick, the videos are a prequel to the film. Shows the monster's first attack in the Atlantic, but doesn't spoil anything from the film.
  • Nick O.
    Alright cool, thanks.
  • ben
fuck this movie if it's not cthulhu.
  • Greyson
I knew it. I knew that Slusho hired their drilling company to find new ingredients and bam, they un-earthed one of life's most deadliest creatures. Japan screws us again!
  • Nathan
Godzilla will beat the crap out of the Cloverfield Monster.

    LONG LIVE GODZILLA!!!!!
  • Thanks for this update! I'm from Chile, I have a blog of my own at http://dvdplay.wordpress.com and I have used /Film and Uruloki as two of my biggest sources of information on the web, so I really, really thank you for that.

I just want to say that, although these are incredibles videos there's a mistake which I don't know is a true mistake or something we're missing. In the Tagruato web site we can see a map in which appears the CHUAI station, while the footage and the same Tagruato page indicates the incident happened in the CHAUI station. Just a mistake or another little twist?
  • Joe
So all we see is the monster wrecking more stuff... I think im the only one who's starting to not really care about this movie anymore. I understand the concept of hype...but seriously this is just getting annoying IMO.
  • droptable
Am I imagining things or is the guy in the swat outfit, on the boat, wearing a Dharma patch on his sleeve?
  • It's a Tagruato patch.
  • Dave
After a closer look the patch just looks like the Tagruato logo (the red earth with hands surrounding it), not a Dharma patch.
  • Why didn't they just call this movie Godzilla? Or Godzilla 2?
  • Yes, this better be Cthulhu.

Anyway, about the footage itself: The German newscast looks pretty fake. They really should ask a native before publishing such videos...

Anyway... We'll see in not even 2 weeks.
  • Yes, the german newscaster still sounds like an US-Actor. I wonder why they didn't use some native speaker.
  • Jake
    Finally!
I fuckin' knew it was a squid hahah :]
    Fuckin' A
Even if it isn't in teh Cthulu mythos it's still gonna be good.
    I hope it doesn't dissapoint.
    Fuckin' Squid, Fuckin' A

    x
  • You see, THIS is how you promote a movie. I want to see this so badly now i'm starting to develop a tic =P.
  • Mike D
I don't get it: the CG looks like ass, the news footage looks fake as can be, and I don't see why people are so psyched about JJ?

This movie looks stupid to me. From the start it's been entirely to reminiscent of Godzilla to look like anything new.
  • Jerry Butler
They should just call this thing The Golden Compass 2. On the plus side, with the tiny budget allocated to this film, the studio won't lose a lot.
  • HEY! ok; question!!! The boat that is escaping, a Big chunk lands on the boat, kills them.. and yet, the video made it to the stations, to hit the AIR and make it on TV. The tape would have been SANK!
    WTF! lol

    -me
  • 11 more days, people........11 more days.
  • Pat
first, for the 5 billionth time, it is NOT Cthulhu! :)

@Mike D, the ARG that these clips are from are done by an independent company that the viral marketing was outsourced to so the CGI does have a lower budget than it would if it was actually going to be in the movie.

@Jerry Butler The Golden Compass 2? this movie is projected to surpass it's entire budget in its opening weekend. Great comparison lol

@Joe have you been following the rest of the Viral Marketing tho? Sure all you see is it wrecking stuff here but this is only constitutes about 1% of the total prequel content that has been released. Aside from the previews that have been playing on TV this is the only stuff we've seen with the monster wrecking something.
  • Mike D
Point taken Pat, but I'm less then impressed with the official trailers and the CG as well. Guess I'm just tired of seeing this stuff all over the place bring raved about when it just looks cheesy to me.
  • button
As a native German I have to say the guy speaks really well german. Just a bit robot-like. He definately learnt it from an early age!
  • Trebek
I'm sorry...But IMO the CG oil rig in that first clip looks like crap from what i can see...Also when the stuff starts shooting out of the water...That also looks pretty bad. I guess I'm just a hater...
  • Nate
I get insanely annoyed when movies use "actual footage" shot by "bystanders" or what have you. Can none of these people hold a god damn camera steady? Who the hell sets the camera down by their knees while they're filming something amazing, let alone several times.

I think it's a huge cop-out by filmmakers. "Hey, we can make it seem sooo real, plus we don't have to actually show as much!"

Since this whole film is shot this way, (as far as I know, anyway?) I think I'll pass until it hits DVD. I can't imagine being in a theater trying to watch an entire movie like this, especially when all I want to see is the monster and the destruction.
  • Pat
yea I should have added that I thought the rig looked like crap as well lol
  • F*ck LSU
Bitch, bitch, bitch. Obviously this concept hooked you enough to post on a blog. Give it a chance.
  • tensaibaka
The lettering on the red logo is written in Japanese Katakana charachters, and would spell out Tagurato in English. I guess since the Italian reporter pronounces it Tagruato that's what everyone assumes.
  • probot
the monster is NOT Cthulu - people need to stop hoping that it is Cthulu, there have been many posts all over the internet that Cthulu IS NOT THE MONSTER...it has even been posted that J.J. Abrams got the idea when he took his kid to a toy store and said that the monster is going to be something we've never seen before. So that clearly denounces any possibility that it can be Cthulu. Cthulu is a named mythological beast, people know about it.
  • Stef
Where are the videos? I don't see them! :-/
  • Jake
Yeah, I know it's not GOING to be Cthulu, I know JJ is making an entirely new monster. It's just that it would be cool to see some Lovecraft-ian shit goin' down in Hollywood town. I hope to God though that nothing OVERLY supernatural is behind the monster. Say if it's from another Dimension, or just a creature that's been there all along. I can deal with that. Don't fancy no Aliens, or Ancient Mythical Beasts though.
  • Buckeyes OWNED by SEC
This movie (38) is going (24) to rock (Final Score)!
  • Although I am not a fan of the "shaky-cam" style (Blair Witch, etc.), I have always enjoyed a good monster flick. Let's hope this one can live up to its predecessors as well as its own hype.

I am linking to this site from www.knoxvillefilms.com. We will be following this "prequel" promotion as well as any other things we find interesting.
  • I can't wait for the movie to come out . It's bin a log time since I have seen a monster movie for a log time . I'll let you know my review when it comes out . Later all Grimm .
  • Sam
Hey, you think we can ask Hawk for one of his "extra" Slusho shirts? LOL
  • kiko
    Bad CGI's,nice idea though...
  • Dean
You can see gunfire coming from the corners of the rig firing into the water before it collapses. Other than that I don't see any "tentacle" or part of the monster. These "news" clips are lame at trying to be "real" when obviously you can hear the monster roaring in the background while the rig is pulled impossible down fast then spewing up pieces of it... yet the newscasters are still "puzzled" at what happened... bull$h!t.
  • kthanid
I can see why the newscasters would be mystified. In the real world Monsters don't pull down oil riggs. The premise is that is something happening in the 'real' world without Godzilla, G-force, or any other such things having happened before. Not real crazy about the CGI quality But willing to forgive if the movie CGI quality is better.
  • OMG...i knew it, its Cthulu
  • stfu
Wow, stfu about the stupid Cthulu. It's been CONFIRMED that it's a BRAND NEW MONSTER. BRAND NEW, which means it has not been seen, read, or heard BEFORE. It's NOT Godzilla, it's not zilla, or zil, or la, or Cthulu. It's something completely NEW. So stop, it's so annoying.
  • Haff
What's absurd is how small minded everyone is about this movie. It was done from a 1st hand, documentary style hand cam and is not going to appeal to those with no imagination and a penchant for spoon fed Hollywood explanations.
  • Allen
The monster looks like a cross between a Hydralisk & that huge boss monster from Gears of War. And its not exactly the thing you need to worry about. Getting bit by those parasites on the other hand....might as well shoot yourself in the head to save you the pain, as it'll be quicker - much quicker.
  • bale
great movie!!! the monster looked like an alien from the movie aliens vs preditor, but really freaked out by the spiders though, but this movie is way better to watch in the cinemas because of the hih definishion and the loudnes, its way better than i am legend and the blair witch project put together, watch the movie, the best movie in 08
  • zin
good movie, the movie looked like it was made on a camera phone, i would of done the same, they should make cloverfield 2, like somehow the monster ends up in LA and destroys hollywood because the monster never died in the end
