Cloverfield Monster Attacks

The Cloverfield viral game has finally begun to catch up with the film, which releases in less than two weeks. First up, Our friends at Uruloki informed us that Tagruato, the Japanese drilling company that owns Slusho, has just suffered a huge setback. The company has issued the following statement:

“There has been an altercation at the Chaui Station. Although details are limited at present time, be assured that Tagruato is taking every measure necessary to ensure the safety and well being of all staff and crew. Specialty teams have been deployed, and are working aggressively to restore harmony at the site. The cause of the problem is currently being investigated, although it is suspected that an eco-terror cell is responsible for the disturbance. top investigators We have on our side . Everything will be resolved shortly, and all problems will be fixed. If you have any questions, please contact us at +81-3-5403-6318 for further instructions.”

Watch these fictional Italian, Spanish and German news clips to see AWESOME firsthand footage of the Chaui Station meltdown, and the first (off screen) appearances of the Cloverfield Monster.

Update: Dennis has received translations:

Spanish

[START]

This is an amazing story. Three short and highly dramatic scenes have just been disclosed, which seem to be showing the total loss of a rig in the middle of the ocean. The rig seems to be Chouai Station, which lies in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and sank a few days ago, even though there’s been no official confirmation of the incident.

This is the video, shot from a helicopter which is either approaching or leaving the rig:

[footage]

This rig harbours over 300 workers and scientists. The video seems to show it breaking apart and sinking in a matter of minutes, even though this kind of modern
rigs are designed to keep afloat under the worse circumstances up to 24 hours.

It’s something absolutely extraordinary. Experts are studying this footage and trying to determine the causes of this tragedy. Some sources even suggest the
rig may have suffered some kind of attack.

Tagruato, the Japanese company that runs the rig was forced to appear publicly and make a hasty statement when the footage was disclosed.

Their spokesperson said it has been confirmed that the Tidowave eco group was in the area when the incident took place and he maintains that the group has
infiltrated Tagruato operations in the past causing damage. This footage, shot with a mobile phone on the rig seem to confirm this possibility:

[footage]

Whatever the cause, the violence of this event was registered by the Seismological Institute in Ribadeo (real town on the north-western coast of Spain). The scientists at the institute doubt this kind of effect can be the result of a human-made explosion.

The incredible speed, the scale of the event, and the sheer drama of this incident are clearly shown by this last piece of footage, apparently shot by some crew members of the rig while trying to escape.

[footage]

These are truly shocking images. We have no news about the fate of these people and the person who was behind the camera. We can only hope they could somehow survive. It seems…

[end]

And also, the banner on the bottom of the screen reads “A loss of jobs because of the construction’s (loss) is foreseen”.

German

About 1300 km from the coast of New York 3 days ago a drilling did sink for unknown reasons. recently we got dramatic pictures from the colapse of the platform by international news agencys. (man screams stuff i can’t understand) The videos show the sinking of Inexplicable reasons which is also for experts hard to understand. at the moment of the disaster 355 workers were on board. the chuai platform was opened in september 2007 and is one of the biggest drillings in the world. it is operated by the big japanese company tagruato wich has it’s central in tokyo. the high advanced drilling system was planned by the company zwichau engeneering in leipzig (leipzig is an east-german town) under the leadership of the graduated engineer dominik möltken. we asked him if the colapse could be caused by a construction mistake. dominik möltken:”from structural reasons there are no evidences that a failure of the basic structure or of one of the security systems could cause such a catastrophe. this is just impossible. this is physically not possible.”

although the videos are of very poor quality it seems as you can notice a gun fire from the platform. in the past tagruato was already accused to have a big private army and experts investigate at the moment if the escape-behaviour of the crew is caused by a para-military attack.

actuall news report that people where killed, but tagruatos spokesman denies that. Yet it is unclear if germans were on board.

/Film: Next up, Rob has been hired to work for Slusho! The following comes from Rob’s myspace blog, via CloverfieldClues:You can’t drink just six…
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

So I got a job offer, and it’s everything I wanted. More money, more power, more creative freedom. I’d even have up to five people working under me, and you know how much I’ve always wanted underlings. One catch — I need to move to freakin’ JAPAN! The job is the V.P. of Marketing and Promotions for SLUSHO! brand “happy drink.” Apparently it’s all the rage in Asia. I’d be part of a team tasked with replicating the drink’s popularity in the Western world. Here’s a link to their most recent TV spot: http://www.slusho.jp/contest/sample/medium.html Bizarre, I know. I’m sure
Hud would love it. They want us to come up with a more accessible angle to hook an American audience.

When I said I’d be willing to leave NYC for the new gig, I was thinking maybe Chicago or Toronto, maybe L.A. Japan is a whole other extreme. I’m not a particularly worldly fellow, and I’d definitely be in store for some major culture shock. But you know what? Maybe this is exactly the jolt my lame little life needs. A fresh start, and all the clichés that go with it. I’m cautiously psyched. I told them I needed the weekend to think it over, but I’m pretty sure I’m gonna take it. I mean, I can’t think of a good enough reason not to.

/Film:
A comment explains how Hawk, one of the characters seen in the trailer advertising wearing a Slusho! t-shirt, actually got the t-shirt:

Hawk - My Japanese friend Kuroki paid me off in Slusho once to settle a bet. That shit is delicious. I’ve been craving more ever since I tried it. Your job will be a piece of cake, Slusho sells itself. Please tell me you get a free lifetime supply or something.

Rob Hawkins - They gave me some t-shirts at the interview, you want one?

HUD - Dude I just googled Slusho, did you know they are a subsidiary of some evil oil company called Tagruato? We both know how much you hate oil (you always say “no oil” when you order a hoagie), so you better turn down the job and stay here and live with me forever and ever.

LenaDia - Gay.

Lil - Rob that’s crazy! How soon would you have to leave?

Rob - A few weeks, around the middle of the month they said.

Beth - Japan!? Oh my god, Rob! Come over this weekend so we can talk about it?

/Film: I agree with Dennis, someone should tell Rob to change his flight to the 17th of January. :)

I agree with Bo - what a complete waste of time. I saw 'Cloverfield' in the cinema and the highlight, for me, was getting up to take a leak. Let's face it, the acting was dire, the characters were contemptible (I found myself willing them all to die in the most horrible way possible), and the creatures were poorly executed. After waiting what seemed like an age to see this, I felt nothing but disappointment.
  • czuk
    No 'Bo'...you suck ass!
  • Bo
This Movie absolutely sucked ass. anybody who thinks different is a idiot! I wanted to see a monster movie not some idiots running around with a camera. The Movie Sucks
  • czuk
I've just watched Cloverfield for the 2nd time...its genius. All you folk wondering this and expecting that just chill, let see what happens. Cracking concept.
  • Mullet
You lot think that godzila could beat the cloverfield monster, MISiLES couldn't take the monster down, we don't know if th nukes did, Godzilla was just a giant komodo dragon that could be taken down, plus the Cloverfield monster as twice the height
  • Roy J Lores
Anybody that thinksa this is Godzilla rehashed is dead wrong is whle new monster and a whole new ballgame.
  • They are not trying to make this seem real... It is just an elaborate way of story telling... I have confirmed that there will be a manga released to be a prequel about the monster... And to explain where it came from... Alot of people are downing this movie because its not an original idea but honestly there is no such thing as original... Every movie you have seen from the matrix to everything else is based off of or aound the concept of something else. So if you want originality go watch Casablanca. A while back I went to the slusho website and it is quite bizzare... It leads you to different theories... The one I came up with is that slusho is made from whatever this creature is or consumes, and its pissed off. Strange thing is at the end of the actual movie if you watch the coney Island footage it shoes something crashing into the ocean to the right center of the screen in the distance, indidcating it probably came from space... Either way its a good fun movie if you are bored on a saturday night. It gives a new angle on the giant monster genre. Although... I have always been a godzilla fan... Oh and one more thing... At the very end of the credits there is an audible message... Couldn't make it out because some idiot in the theatre said something at the exact same time... Post it if you figure it out.
  • WAIT WAIT WAIT!!! Everyboy, listen, as movie is not THE BEST MOVIE come one guys... BUT! the idea is so innovated, original, fantasttic, etc etc etc, is these guys left the movie like is it noww, it would be major mistake in the film industrie.

    Why is so mad?
to me, this looks like a baby monster,
GUY make another 10 movies like this...
provide more infor about the monster..
Whio was watching the founf video ?

COME ON GUYS DONT LET US WITH MILLIONS OF DOUBTS; PEOPLE NEEDS ANSWERS; OTHERWISE WE WONT BE ABLE TO SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • poop
And lastly, Jess, people may react differently to different situations, you idiot. Some people may "fight or flight", but others will try to occupy themselves to deal with a situation. Just accept that you aren't a human behaviorist and move on.
  • poop
mike, a satellite is seen falling into the ocean. Maybe its caused by the monster, which is truely an alien or something? Otherwise there isn't really any point in adding it in there, is it?

And Abrams sucks, i agree with the film being a knockoff, but it is still a great film that isn'tt a sold-out franchise like Godzilla that was milked for every penny, or a lame dry show like lost.
  • poop
and no, clover_field_monster_revealed, surely by now, a few weeks after the films release, you would have seen the film and go and hide in embarrassment; the monster isn't a giant whale. True, it has lice things that drop of it, but it isn't a whale or a squid. WATCH THE FILM INSTEAD OF GOSSIPING ABOUT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. You see the monster upclose on many occasions, and see it being bombed and stuff.

Billy V: If they were escaping on a boat, why are they ABOVE the water as if they are flying, and why do the translations say HELICOPTER? Pay attention, dumbass
  • the cloverfield monster is a giant tentacled whale with sea lurches that hang around on the monster's back
  • MonsterKiller
You people are blind as a bat! Not one of them video's showed any part of that monster. Another thing somebody needs to tell them Hollywood directors that shaking the damn Camera isnt considered special effects. Its considered cheap class "C" movie tricks, and it sucks. I'm feed up with movies that do this to hide the action becuase thier movies suck in the first place. I wanna see WTF is going on, damn it!!!!!
  • Abrams sucks
    Jess says:
"Blah blah fight or flight bullshit I was fed during high school and possibly college blah blah pretending to know something about a topic that I don't fully understand nor have I experienced before" Please, this is 21st century America. We're all invincible, getting killed while a giant monster ravages the city isn't going to happen. I've got to video tape it instead! Sadly, this is pretty much reality. Just look at all the journalists who head to the Middle East. I really can't say I feel bad when they get their shit ruined. They're going against your fight or flight theory, and basically asking to get their heads cut off.

I did enjoy parts of the movie, up until the completely uninspired ending which left the entirely full theater yelling things like "That's it?" and "Fucking bullshit!", but my opinion, and this is an OPINION, is the following.

JJ Abrams is an asshat, whose so called "original and creative ideas" are basically stolen, rewired plot lines from other sources. Lost is simply Gilligan's Island with a modern more serious twist, and Cloverfield is Godzilla meets The Blair Witch Project. He's not original or clever with his "Oh yeahhhh, I know exactly what's going through my head but no one else can! I'm going to throw random shit into the fray, yet never explain any of it! It'll get the audience thinking and that constitutes good!". It's not hard to come up with logical explanations for some of the bullshit that plagues this movie and his television series, but unless the monster is an alien, which he's basically come flat out and said isn't the case, there's no realistic way the monster can exist. You can't have a creature which lives at the bottom of the ocean just pop up onto land and start running around. The change in pressure would cause it to explode on the way to the surface, and having no prior experience on land, the monster's sheer size would break itself as it roamed around. Slusho's ingredient being the cause for the increased mass of a normally much less massive creature doesn't change this fact. If it was an alien, then the creature's size and impervious nature to anything that was thrown at it could possibly make sense, but it's been stated otherwise. He's not creative, he's not a visionary, end of story. If I had the will or desire, but more importantly the fat trustfund-baby cash, I could shit out crappy ideas and post them as "original" too. But I don't, so I'll just criticise others :).
  • mike
at the end of the movie when beth and rob are on the ferris wheel and beth says, " this was the best day ever" or whatever she says, supposedly in the background you can see sumthing fall from the sky but i wasnt really paying attention to the background. did anyone catch that? and whats a website that i can go to to watch the whole movie, like b4 it comes out on dvd, like a recorded vidio of the movie.
  • spellbinder
It just might be a real earth creature from the deep sea. We are always finding this down there everyday. probably dosent get bigger than a sea horse. Just looks big in the doll house mock up set of NYC.
  • Keith
Mike it looks like you need to follow your own advice. It seems you have too much time on your hands to troll around boards and leave ignorant comments like that. I have a wife and a baby on the way. So apparently I a getting as you put it "fucked". Now on to the topic:

"Zeroenna Says: actually people in situations where death is a serious consideration would use something like that to keep a feeling of detachment from the situation."

you must be completely DETACHED from planet earth. Near death experiences cause a physiological reaction called "fight or flight." This is where adrenaline is released into the body to allow a person to either fight or flee. Unless your Rambo, which youre not, cause youre a complete f$^%ing idiot, the normal person would freak the f*&^k out! Oh s*&t! theres a giant monster destroying NYC! let me calm myself down by DETACHING myself from the situation! Youre a complete idiot, and ruined this blog. Stay off of blogs for the sake of common sense. what little is left these days. TARD!!!

Allen I think he stopped under the bridge because they were going to start bombing. There was no where to go. The best thing was just to try and find cover.

Stop complaining about the quality of the camera

it’s supposed to look like from their point of view, if you seriously were in a situation where your life was endangered, I’m sure the least of your worries was to be sure that you actually filmed the thing thats going to kill you, use some damn common sense"

Oh stop whining, we weren't complaining about the quality. Its SUPPOSED TO look like that - duh. We aren't stupid. I actually liked the idea of it being recorded on a hand-cam. The line in the movie that went "Need a recording of this. So people will know how it really went down" describes it perfectly. The only two parts that I didn't quite get was at the end when he looked up and there was the monster, why the hell didn't he try to move like UNDER it before it moved its head enough to see him. Deer in Headlights indeed. The other part was why they stopped under that bridge? Its Central Park for god's sake and Rob was told they were going to start bombing the monster flat. If the Monster was in Central Park - use the trees and get the hell out of there. Beth didn't deserve to die as she didn't know but damn if he didn't for being a moron and just stopping there.

good movie, the movie looked like it was made on a camera phone, i would of done the same, they should make cloverfield 2, like somehow the monster ends up in LA and destroys hollywood because the monster never died in the end

great movie!!! the monster looked like an alien from the movie aliens vs preditor, but really freaked out by the spiders though, but this movie is way better to watch in the cinemas because of the hih definishion and the loudnes, its way better than i am legend and the blair witch project put together, watch the movie, the best movie in 08
  • Allen
The monster looks like a cross between a Hydralisk & that huge boss monster from Gears of War. And its not exactly the thing you need to worry about. Getting bit by those parasites on the other hand....might as well shoot yourself in the head to save you the pain, as it'll be quicker - much quicker.
  • Haff
What's absurd is how small minded everyone is about this movie. It was done from a 1st hand, documentary style hand cam and is not going to appeal to those with no imagination and a penchant for spoon fed Hollywood explanations.
  • stfu
Wow, stfu about the stupid Cthulu. It's been CONFIRMED that it's a BRAND NEW MONSTER. BRAND NEW, which means it has not been seen, read, or heard BEFORE. It's NOT Godzilla, it's not zilla, or zil, or la, or Cthulu. It's something completely NEW. So stop, it's so annoying.
  • OMG...i knew it, its Cthulu
  • kthanid
I can see why the newscasters would be mystified. In the real world Monsters don't pull down oil riggs. The premise is that is something happening in the 'real' world without Godzilla, G-force, or any other such things having happened before. Not real crazy about the CGI quality But willing to forgive if the movie CGI quality is better.
  • Dean
You can see gunfire coming from the corners of the rig firing into the water before it collapses. Other than that I don't see any "tentacle" or part of the monster. These "news" clips are lame at trying to be "real" when obviously you can hear the monster roaring in the background while the rig is pulled impossible down fast then spewing up pieces of it... yet the newscasters are still "puzzled" at what happened... bull$h!t.
  • kiko
    Bad CGI's,nice idea though...

Hey, you think we can ask Hawk for one of his "extra" Slusho shirts? LOL
  • I can't wait for the movie to come out . It's bin a log time since I have seen a monster movie for a log time . I'll let you know my review when it comes out . Later all Grimm .
  • Although I am not a fan of the "shaky-cam" style (Blair Witch, etc.), I have always enjoyed a good monster flick. Let's hope this one can live up to its predecessors as well as its own hype.

I am linking to this site from www.knoxvillefilms.com. We will be following this "prequel" promotion as well as any other things we find interesting.

Yeah, I know it's not GOING to be Cthulu, I know JJ is making an entirely new monster. It's just that it would be cool to see some Lovecraft-ian shit goin' down in Hollywood town. I hope to God though that nothing OVERLY supernatural is behind the monster. Say if it's from another Dimension, or just a creature that's been there all along. I can deal with that. Don't fancy no Aliens, or Ancient Mythical Beasts though.
  • Stef
Where are the videos? I don't see them! :-/
  • probot
the monster is NOT Cthulu - people need to stop hoping that it is Cthulu, there have been many posts all over the internet that Cthulu IS NOT THE MONSTER...it has even been posted that J.J. Abrams got the idea when he took his kid to a toy store and said that the monster is going to be something we've never seen before. So that clearly denounces any possibility that it can be Cthulu. Cthulu is a named mythological beast, people know about it.
