Cloverfield Monster Revealed? NOPE!

Cloverfield Monster Revealed

A new photo has begun to circulate across the interwebs (you can see it after the jump for spoiler purposes). It’s a conceptual rendering of the Cloverfield monster, or another fan made hoax?

The picture originated on conceptart.org in the profile of Peter Konig, an art director for Tippett Studios, which is supposedly working on the upcoming JJ Abrams produced monster film. After reviewing the slowed down footage seen here from the theatrical trailer, the legs and spine match up incredibly well. And his claws also match up with the marks on the statue of liberty.

It seemed very strange that someone who is working on the project would post spoiler art on their portfolio profile for everyone to see. Konig also works for Massive Black, which does a lot of design work for video games. It might actually be a design from one of their unannounced projects. We’ll update this story as it develops.

Update: After further investigation of the the Massive Black website, I have discovered a photo which shows a a clay model of the creature pictured after the jump. This pretty much confirms that the monster photo currently spreading around the interwebs is NOT the Cloverfield monster (although, I’m guessing the real thing probably looks pretty similar) and is instead concept art for some video game.

This Picture is pretty awesome looking. If this is the real thing, than that would be pretty amazing. Not only is it kool, its scary as hell!! Just imagine little ones running around. Its a pretty awesome concept. Even if this isn't real, I think it would make a good monster for a monster flick.
  • Mike
    interesting
  • mem
it better not be all lizard looking like that i mean i like it it just looks too much like a lizard form the face
  • Pat
lol i figured out it was inspired by a chameleon about 5 hours ago lol and this story breaks
  • kiko
    Deformed turtle...boring design!
  • Greyson
I saw this online and thought the same thing. I was like, I really hope it's not the monster, damn spoiler. It's fine now though I'd imagine it will look almost the same.
  • Grue
I instantly recognized one of the maquette sculptures on the table in that linked photo as one of Smellybug's (from conceptart.org). It's amazing work, but it doesn't seem like quite the right fit for what we've seen of the movie. Then again, who's to say what's right and what fits?
  • Rich L. of CT - USA
Doesn't anybody care that Buffy is off the air????

Oh well, get over it right!!! So, I thought this was going to be another monsters from "outer space" movie like "Independance Day" until I went onto the internet and everybody basically spoiled it by saying its just a new creation of an old thing (like Godzilla). Just another monster? Well then, looks like Hillary Clinton will be tested to see how she acts during a major crisis. Naw! She probably got the hell out of Dodge as soon as the trouble started leaving only a few folks behind to film the creature/alien/terrorist/my ex wife.

Toodles and have yourself a pleasant evening - bu-bye. Freaks!!
  • Pat
why does the clay model on the table disprove it's connection to the movie???
  • Pat
nevermind, I get it. However, I sitll think that the monster is inspired by a chameleon
  • Aaron
monster only has 3 claws this one has a very small pinky
  • evan
its godzilla and thats not what it looks like
in the comercial u can c its back legs and tail pass by a biulding
  • its GODZILLA In the comercial u can see its back legs and tail pass between a biulding
I NEW they would make another Godzilla movie agian
  • Lauren
This does look kool -with a "k"- I hope he eats poeple! that would be intense!
  • jeffmoor1
if u pay attention there's a tail in the back.
  • Daniel Gentry
if thats it it looks lame I like the whale idea better just cuz it was a trip and organic that looks like a bad monster from a Godzilla movie or a gammera filom that he kills in the first few minutes if thats it it's Lamo not Slusho and fu-ko for drawing us all in to there madness if that thing is the pay off. ..I'll give abbrams a cloverfield right up side the noggen
  • Erick
Theres a possability that jj abrams won't show the monster because he is scared that it won't reach the veiwers expectations or he will show the monster and no one will like the way it looks. Either way he's screwed
  • Alan Reacher
I dont mind if the monster looks like that as long as there is damage!
I think we have all seen what it can do. Lets hope it does plenty more too.
  • Pat
he cloverfield monster is a mutated human. in the new commercial "rats" for one or two frames you can see the monsters foot and it has toes. this explains why they made sure to obsucre the feet in the trailers, and this also would explain why it ripped off the liberty's head and threw it at the city... a stupid animal wouldn't do that.
  • Lucky Charms
The Cloverfield Monster is a giant fucking leprechaun.
  • Erick
Can U tell me where and wher u see this mutated humans foot
  • FIELDMAN 298
THIS MONSTER'S LEGS LOOK LIKE THE ONES SEEN IN THE TRAILER. ALSO THAT SCULPTURE OF THE MONSTER HAS SPINES ON ITS BACK LIKE GODZILLA!
  • wonka
who the hell is this new monster, is this heshe tryin 2 come up and take godzillas spot. he looks like a mutated bird with no feathers
  • javier
i think thats fake . we better wait for the movie
  • JJ Abrams
I am from HK, watched it. The monster is from outer space, kill and eat human then spawn little monster out to continue slaughtering all human being. Anyone got bite by little monster will self explode after a while. So Monster is coming from outer space to kill us all.

The big monster is not like anything people guessed. It's a big table like stuff, with 4 major legs, a long sharp teeths head, and 4 minor hands on it's belly.
  • Fish
It doesn't say where it is from, and the one person you do see it 'eat' it spits out....
  • jlh
OMG! It's a genetic experiment of The Covenant! Half Elite and half Brute!
  • Nathan
Looks more like an elite than a brute.
  • Nathan
The real monster looks like a squid/spider kinda thing. Its scares the heck outa ya the first time u see it.
  • Mike
The monster is from outer space. At the end of the movie, you can see something falling into the water behind Rob and his lady in the Ferris wheel.
  • OMG!
    Mike is right....even though i didnt see it.....or did i....did i?
  • OMG!
To Jih:oohhh well....it does seem....like an alien.....and......it does have muscles
  • OMG!
THE PILOT WAS AN IDIOT FOR DRIVING ABOVE THE MONSTER. HE ALSO WAS TO CLOSE T THE BOMBS THAT WERE BEING DROPPED, DIDNT HE HEARD THE DUDE SAY "I HOPE ONE OF THOSE WONT HIT US" I BLAME THE PILOT FOR EVERYTHING.
  • OMG!
had anyone relised that the monster always wanted to eat the camara dude all the time. It also followed him from faraway
  • To start, the graphics sucked, and the story line was cheap! J.J. Abrams should be ashamed of himself for calling himself a Godzilla fan. Thank God this was not another remake of Godzilla or another Japanese film. Fact: Americans don't do well with remakes of Japanese Anime or Live Action films. The commercials don't hold up to ones expectations. The commercials make it seem that this is going to be about a giant monster and J.J. Abrams even has said this on TV short interviews. Fact is this is not about a giant monster at all; it is about a guy trying to save his girlfriend from the havoc situation-taking place. Holding the camcorder thing does not work well here; it only worked in Blair Witch. Save your money and wait until it comes out on DVD, and even then wait until it goes off the "New Release" section to save even more money. The acting was poor to boot.

The creature is SYN from Final Fantasy X.
  • ashleylynn
I seen the movie yesterday and loved it!! that model looks nothing like the monster if anyone wants to know.. that looks like a teenage mutant ninja turtle..
  • ashleylynn
and also... if you watch the last scene in that movie when they are on the ferris wheel in coney island.. and the girl says I had a good day.. if you look in the ocean.. you can see something falling out of the air into the ocean and splashing! so it is an alien.. just to let you all know
  • Darren
i am so pissed!! i saw the movie then read about the monster falling into the water!!! i am so mad!!
  • So the trailer when I went to see "I am Legend." I was intrigued, but not enough to pay to see the movie. They made steady cams for a reason you know!

Thanks for the insight. You have eased my curiosity.
  • Tommy
its nothing like the real monster!!!! i saw the movie twice and i promise you, that lizard thing looks nothing close to the creepy shit in the movie
  • Okthen
I looked oh so carefully to see something fall into the water at the end, if it was there, i somehow missed it.
The monster is basiccally boring, looks like some big lumbering mutant mongoloid whos accidentally wandered out of the cage in its parents basement.
The parasites that drop off it lend more credit to the idea that it is some form of mutant whale, as they are somewhat louse like. Them being lice would also somewhat explain the whole getting bitten and exploding into a sptray of red mist thing. Before i explain why tho I should point out that.. no this is not possible, but neither are giant bugs (oxygen content in the atmosphere is too low for giant bugs)

Lice drink blood, they spit an anticoagulant to prevent blood from xlotting, so bleeding will continue. Giant louse bites you, you get massive amounts of anticoagulant in you, you bleed to death.
Exploding however... makes no sense unless giant mutant whale lice like licking you off the walls rather than sucking you dry and leaving behind a mummified husk.

JJ said that america needs its own movie monster like japan has godzilla...
JJ is clearly suffering from some form of braindamage, as you will find the original King Kong is not only AMERICAN, it was also made 20 years before godzilla was.

For various reasons ive listed, or am not bothering to list, i give this movie:
    3/10

And suggest not only not seeing it in theaters, but instead of renting it, wait untill it comes out on the movie channels on TV (and I dont mean the pay per view kind).

    To all the "Cloverfield" haters:

You have every right to be angry. Your entire movie going life has been filled with remakes of older movies, and worse yet, old television shows with simplistic plots and pauses for emotional responses. Your brains can't possibly process something original and exciting to watch. If I were you I'd climb to the highest point and shout out your craving for a live-action "Bravestarr" or perhaps a "Who's The Boss" movie. Then jump with all the other lemmings.
  • deadman
    Hater? No. Disappointed? Hell yes.

Too much pointless bs backstory about idiots we could care less about, by actors who can't.

Waaaay overdone simulated Handycam, that seems like Michael J Fox is playing cameraman.

Not enough monster, explanation, demise or lack thereof.
  • Sausage
Typical whining. Why is this happening? Who are these people? Where's Damon? Where's Pitt? I don't understand? I don't want to use my imagination it's scary!

Could it possibly be that you've missed the point? Nah. Believe it or not I understand your confusion and hostility. You've always had the answers handed to you. It must be hard to go through life with AD, granted it's no Parkinson's, but none the less a difficulty when viewing cinema. Perhaps you might get lucky and when they release the DVD there'll be a "Didn't Get It" feature in the menu. Oh to dream.

Well let me say that the movie Cloverfield was good. let me explain, it was very suspenseful ,chilling and it made you seem like you were right there when he monster attack New York City. the monster seem to me in my opinion to be an alien mutant of some sort i don't know if it was male or female but to me it seem female because their were things dropping from it and those things were minature versions of the larger monstor. to me those little monstors look like spiders or mutant spiders because they were fast and can jump real good and they can cling to walls. those little things almost scared the heck out me when they were in the tunnel because i thought that one of those people in the movie were going to get eaten. as for the bigger monstor wherever it came from via outerspace or from under the ocean it really did zome damage but the stupid thing to me about this movie is that they tried to kill it with misssiles ,bombs and guns but it kept going and at the end when the last two people left all you here is the monstor scream and you here a big bomb go off or an atomic bommb hit the city but you don't know if it killed the monstor or if it was still alive and kept going on. i was wondering if anybody on this site would answer my question what happen to the gurl who got bitten by one those little monstors when i saw it it look like she st exploding or something came out of here like a little monstor and attack those to quarantine guys?
  • gazzas_1984
My opinion of the cloverfield monster is far different from this botched attenpt to reveal it :( The monster is a quadraped, not in the sence of a Dog or Cat but of a Gorilla. it uses its hands to aid in walking and the arms are actually longer than its legs. also it appears to have 2 or 4 smaller limbs on its torso. the spider like creatures that fall from it would appear to be more like gathering aids or even that they just hitched a ride on it. this certainly dose not indicate that the monster is female. overall the lack of seeing this monster in full just makes it more misterious and terrifying and the film its self? well i thought it was fantastic.
  • Ramon
The movie was'nt that good. What intrigues me more ia how it made box office record. It's the kind of movie that would make you feel cheated after you go out of the movie house. I'll try to remember the names of the producer and director so that the next time they make another movie i'll avoid it.
  • Junwa
Movie wasn't as bad as smoe make it out to be.

1, It is a love story with a SciFi backdrop.
2, It couldn't have been a Nuke dropped on the monster
the as close as they were if the heat didn't destroy the tape the
    radiation would have erased it.
3, If it splashed down off coney island, why did it take
so long to pop out up in the Hudson? Wasn't there a few month gap in the taping dates between the lovers weekend and destruction day.

4, If their lovers weekend was so GREAT then why hadn't they been in touch? She even came to his going away party with another dude...come'on.
