Freddy

Whenever New Line sees dark skies, as they no doubt have with The Golden Compass, they make sure to rub their golden poobah, Fred Krueger, and send him back down Elm Street. A Deep Throat inside New Line has whispered to Bloody Disgusting that plans for Freddy vs. Jason 2 are off, as is the A Nightmare on Elm Street prequel that had Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer’s John McNaughton attached to direct. The source finally gets to the point, saying that Freddy is gearing up to return in a new ANOES installment, but leaves more questions than answers, like whether it’s a restart a la the studio’s Friday the 13th in 2009, a re-imagining like Rob Zombie’s Halloween, or a homoerotic metaphor like 1985’s Freddy’s Revenge. Nor is it confirmed whether Mr. Robert Englund will be involved, but we’ll just leave that to what lawyers call “good faith” and parents call “common sense, golly.”

Ever since he rapped with the Fat Boys, horror fans have pined for Freddy to toss his bag of rotten jokes and return to the truly scary claw-screeching supernatural killer seen in Wes Craven’s original. As someone who rocked a Dream Warriors puff-paint t-shirt purchased at Record Bar (!) in elementary school, I am that fan. Let’s also hope that studio head Bob Shaye gives the rest of His Dark Materials a chance, eh, because Freddy needs more than one movie to regain his street cred after Jason Voorhees bullied him around like Dawn Wiener in F vs J. Speaking of which, do you think Freddy’s newly detached head and Ms. Voorhees’ head have made out in Jason’s cabin? I do.

    Nice, Its been a while since a real Freddy movie has come out, he was THE Horror Icon and maybe a new movie could show people its not just the Japanese who can scare the shit out of you. Also, Lets hope the rest of His Dark Materials gets made just so we can see the ending to the first movie.

    This is certainly cool news. Nowadays, it would be nice to see Freddy back in action. However, if they, for some ungodly reason, aren’t thinking of having Robert Englund back, then they should forget it. Freddy is everything he is and is known around the world because of Robert Englund. The look, the voice, the way he moves and carries himself. Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. Sylvester Stallone is Rocky. Robert Englund is Freddy. You do it without him, then you are heading for a major disaster.

    I actually liked the fat boys song…..

    Definitely. New Line has to go with Mr. Englund, there is no doubt. The cool thing about Freddy as opposed to Rocky or Indy is that age isn’t so much a factor with the character. Englund was 55/56 when he did Freddy vs. Jason. It was the character’s most action intensive film and Englund killed it.

    Imagine Freddy when Englund’s 70. That could set up an even creepier storyline, or might they amp up the stupid teens/dirty old man schtick?

    My 7″ record is stashed away some where! I totes used to scratch it on a Fisher-Price turntable. The single was actually pretty good for a novelty record, with that “don’t fall asleep” sample. Don’t!

    Anyone fondly remember the card game for a gang of pills in the Fat Boys’ Disorderlies??

    @ Hunter

    Very true. With the make-up covering everything and Englund still seemingly game for Freddy and in good shape, there’s no reason he couldn’t do it. Imagine the uproar and backlash if he wasn’t.

    I say, no matter what, bring it!

    For f%&* sakes. I guarantee this movie fails. I am a fan of the original ANOES, and I’m not looking forward to this…So I don’t know how many other fans will be. Same goes for Friday the 13th. They are going to ruin both of those films…

    Let’s not jump the gun Trebek. We know nothing about the movie yet. Hard to say if it will fail(which I seriously, seriously doubt), or ruin the series. Juding from other posts by web sites and comments from fans elsewhere, most seem to be pretty excited about the prospect of a new Freddy movie and look forward to it. I think most fans are/would be.

    @trebek

    Answer: As long as this production company stays far far away from the new Nightmare on Elm Street film, Hunter is all for it.

    Question: What is Platinum Dunes.

    @Barry
    Yeah I probably shouldn’t jump the gun…But I mean…C’mon. Have you seen Freddy vs Jason? I have very little faith in anyone, except maybe Wes Craven, making another good ANOES film.

    I think its a great idea to make a new freddy movie, they are well put together and exciting to watch, he is definately the man that would appear in your very worst nightmare i think the first movie was bril considering the fact that they had money limits. I beleive if they brought out a new nightmare film it will be a great success as viewers are now looking for more excitement out of films which the nightmare films can definately provide for viewers. As you are probably aware the rumours of a new nightmare are already going about and most people are quite excited by the fact that another one of these great productions could be in cinemas in time to come.
