Lost Boys 2

Unlike all of the non-entities on The Surreal Life, Corey Feldman still has something to offer us. His band is tres lame, but if you’ve caught The Two Coreys on A&E (which is also terrible), Feldman still possesses the upbeat work ethic and fresh face of a confident young blood like Shia LaBeouf. I get the feeling that highly unlike his role in Meatballs 4, he grasps how important the success of The Lost Boys 2: The Tribe will be to his career, and that he also believes the 1987 original is one of the best movies of all time. And it is. It merits a release by Criterion for its quixotic ’80s boardwalk atmosphere alone.

But here’s the dilemma. How does a film like Renny Harlin’s The Covenant or Paris Hilton’s The Hottie and the Nottie receive a wide theatrical release, while a sequel only out-anticipated by ’80s babies by Goonies 2, goes straight to DVD? It’s a travesty. Someone start a petition, because, as of today, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed the film’s Wesley Snipes-like trajectory. This could be the worst movie of all time, but with proper marketing it’d still open to $15 million easy, off pure fumes of nostalgia. Moreover, the film’s writer, Hans Rodionoff, has confirmed that they are not only bringing back “Cry Little Sister” but the meathead sax player! This is like Live Free or Die Hard bringing back Sgt. Al Powell or Argyle, or an R-rating. Never dismiss an effort to actually please from Hollywood. All I know is that I need to get Lost Boys 2 out of my head and up on screen in an actual theater. We all do, right? Right?!

Corey Feldman has also stated on his official blog that Warner Bros. likes what they have seen and wants to start talks about a third film, one that Rodionoff has already alluded to focusing solely on Feldman’s Edgar Frog character. To further stack up the Jenga tower of potential awesomeness, DC Comics is releasing a 4-issue comic mini-series detailing what happened to Edgar between the first film and the new one. My guess is that bit about Meatballs 4 will be redacted and replaced with a holy water Jacuzzi.
If you want Lost Boys 2: The Tribe to get some kind of theatrical release, let Warner Bros. know below. Otherwise, look for it in mid-summer on a shelf beside Aliens Vs. Monsters 4.

I swear to god I cringed, when I read that.

Listen bro, I was born in '78, I work for a firm that does commercial mortgages in Vancouver,Canada, when we caught word about a LB 2 movie it became the tpic of conversation in the lunchroom and evryone agreed they would see it on the big screen. Also, after much more discussion everybody agreed it would be in the film's best interest to cut Haim outta the pic. The guy was seen numerous times out and around Vancouver and he's just an embarassment to himself and everyone around him.

If Warner Bros. is reading this, release it in cineplexes. Lost Boys is one of the most watched DVDS of all time, and you have no idea how big the following for the sequel will be. It makes no sense to not even do a small roll out.

Perez Hilton even ran a story about Lost Boys 2 today. What other Direct-to-DVD movie would get that kind of mainstream press?? http://perezhilton.com/?p=11432

When Baby Geniuses 2 Superbabies gets a theatrical release and Lost Boys 2 doesn't, something weird is going on here guys. Warner Bros you guys suck.
  • @Jason A.,

Hey. A Criterion release of The Lost Boys was just a passionate suggestion on my part, but the more you think about it, the more it makes you wonder why Criterion hasn't pounced on it, right? As of now, there are no plans for one, but feel free to email them and ask why not (and ask them if they've seriously watched Days of Heaven more times in a state of awe, not to knock on TM).

The first film has a very large fan base, and a cult following. I find it hard to believe that the sequel was just handed off to some B-list straight-to-dvd director. It should have gotten a much better treatment, with big names and a big budget. Now, Warner Bros seeing how much the sequel is stirring the internet is finally seeing the potential it has, but it's too late for a theatrical release because the movie is destined to flop.

I wish they could just scrap this project altogether, and give it to people who know how to make movies. What good can you expect from the guy who directed movies you can only find in the bargain-bin at wal-mart, and who's even heard of the writer Hans Rodionoff? This whole thing makes my head hurt.

I NEED TO see that movie, even if its crap; its one of those movies you probably know it sucks SO BAD (like alien vs. predator) but you just go and see it, and surely when you come out of the movie theater, all stressed, angry, and dissapointed you still say: "Im still gonna see the third one" PUT IT IN THE DAMN THEATERS!
  • Paul
Ok Warner Bros would be crazy not to release this film in theatres. It would probablu make a good amount of money. Every will go see it now that the main characters are repsising their roles once again. Especially now thta Haim is in it as well. I will see this film either way, but seriously relsease it in theatres, make some money and bring back Feldman as a movie star. It would ultimate.

I just seen Lost Boys - The Tribe. I think that it should have hit the theaters and would have made it big. The ending was left open like the first one. There was a lot that wasn't explained but hopefully it will all be put together if there is a part 3. Great movie and hope to see a part 3 hit the theater.
