Guillermo del Toro Frankenstein

In between threatening to show off his incredible “chocolate bar physique,” Hell Boy 2 director Guillermo del Toro revealed to MTV that he is working on preliminary sketches for an upcoming “definitive take” on the Frankenstein monster. Del Toro says that his vision, which is in the earliest stages of pre-production, will not be a literal adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, rather a permutation on the myth. It’s all very cryptic, isn’t it? Does this mean he’ll be bringing Frankenstein into modern times or creating his own twisted Gothic fairy tale?

“The only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries,” he said. “But I think there permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way.”

With Mark Romanek’s Wolf Man starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins due in 2009, it appears these traditional monsters of yore might be in for a more promising, hipper comeback compared to their last mediocre return to theaters in the early ’90s, when Mike Nichols’ Wolf, Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Kenneth Branagh’s Frankenstein put audiences to sleep, as well as the horror icons. Indeed, sounds like the perfect old school anecdote for what remains of the torture porn, ’80s remakes and Japanese remakes still haunting theaters.

Who would you cast as Dr. Frankenstein and his bolt-brained pal?

I can’t wait to see this!

completely random off the top of my head thought for who to play Frankenstein monster…. Vinnie Jones. haha!

I figured he was kidding about the whole thing when I read him say he’d cast Robert DeNiro considering he already played Frankenstein in the last big budget adaptation.

Eventhough he looked retarted as the Monster Robert Deniro played Frankestein perfectly. That wasn’t a bad movie at all (Marry Shelleys Frankenstein).

Monster: Nathan Jones, but since its Guillermo, we’ll get Ron Perlman
    Dr. Frankenstein: William Hurt

As long as Ron Perlman isn’t in it.

For the mad Doctor, you need someone with dangerous intelligence and lonely, deranged eyes = I’d go with Phillip Seymor Hoffman. At this point, John Malkovich is almost too crazy looking for the role.

Or how about Daniel Day Lewis? That’d be sick!

Ron Perlman is actually a great choice for the monster.

Well who knows what his version will be like. On that note, Christian Bale can do anything…

Maybe something like DC Comics new “super-hero” SIMON DARK…

Christian Bale is indeed a good actor. However, I am very tired of hearing his name over the internet. Either you guys should watch more movies, or stop watching them altogether.

Christian Bale is a little played out like Johnny Depp right now, I agree. These are two actors who are good in nearly every diverse role they choose, but never truly bring it anymore. There’s not enough method acting to their roles. That’s why I’d love to see Daniel Day Lewis in more surreal material.

Based on Heith Ledgers portrail of the joker in TDK, I’d say he’d make a fantastic crazy scientist. I also think Robert Downey Jr. could pull it off. As for the monster….Michael Cera…nah..i have no ideas actually.

    The Monster: Seth Rogen
    Dr. Frankenstein: Steve Carell

Who knows what Del Toro’s version will be like but it sounds like it will still have the essence of the original story. Frankenstein needs to be fairly young… The Creature could be anyone. Christopher Walken as the Creature. Jake Gylenhall as Frankenstein.

Dr. Frankenstein - Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd)
The Creature - Matthew McGrory (Big Fish)

Speaking of which, they should of have Tim Burton direct Frankenstein.

I know this may be a tough one but there was a frankenstein commercial where he was eating a chocolate bar that was in his hand and he raised it up and said “eat” “eat” and it didn’t go into his mouth but hit his forehead.

Please please tell me what the chocolate bar company sponsoring the commercial was.

    Forever indebted, Rachelle
