National Trasure 2In National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Nicolas Cage’s character Ben Gates is after the President of the United States’ book of secrets, an unofficial book which contains the answers for the biggest coverups in American history. In addition to his mission to restore his family’s name, Gates is advised by the President of the United States to “read Page 47″. And of course, the information which is contained on Page 47 is never revealed, setting up a possible third film.  Someone posed the question to director Jon Turteltaub at the film’s press day, and here is his answer:

“I’ll tell you, what is on page 47 is I think the single greatest secret in America today… which is… the plot of Star Trek.”

Now that’s funny.

Nice to see he has a great sense of humor.. but now I must find this book.
  • Quincy
C'mon. Can't someone with the blue-ray version read what it says when he tips the book while reading page 47? Can't with the standard DVD version though.
  • avik m
    we all have to
  • ray
the next treasure hunt will be for the tree of youth or something along those lines. when the president asked about page 47 he had to be wondering about something other than aliens or money because he would have mentiond the roswell site, and they just found the the greatest dollar value treasure. so what else could the president be so hyped about. so that is my insite
  • Kevin
I agree slightly with Ray, though I take my conspiracy a little further. I posit that page 47 contains directions to the FOUNTAIN of youth, and that a former president, (perhaps Harvey Keitel's character because Gates states that he knows a lot about "the book" for just being an FBI agent) has perhaps already found it. That would definitely be "life altering."
  • Eric Gilmour
Fountain of Youth? No, the Page 47 will reveal that a President will be (and eventually was) elected through the evil, life altering interference of the news and entertainment medias. Don't believe that? Then you probably believe in AGW as well. Reality is everywhere. You just have to accept it.
  • raymond
the fountain of youth i never thought of that thats a great idea, i belive that the fountain might be it and hidden in Hoover Damn becasue Hoover being a former president might have put that he build that damn to cover up something the world is not ready for and Hoover Damn is heavily guarded and is about 3 football fields long, so why did Hoover Build a damn 3 football fileds long either than powering the Pacific Northwest and ohter states unless Hoover Damn is actually hiding someting
  • jjeremy
    have you ever seen transformers???
  • ray
thanks for the positive feedback gentelman, however, keven if your only going to SLIGHTLY agree with me, dont take the idea and run with with it lol. the tree of youth was misstated as i had been drinking , lol. and your version using the fbi agent sounds more like an overplayed vampire theme. live forever and then become the savior of the world, yet the fbi guy who says "he knows the book exist", like any conspirorist, is full of it and he is only the guy used in the story to make gates look good when he gets away everytime hes being hunted. read into the directors comment that this 47th page has no lead to the 3rd movie, which i think is bogus and he uses the writers are on strike argument to end the conversation. cage wants to get out of the country so therefor the hoover dam is possibly excluded. so back to my FOUNTAIN of youth, which probably would have been located where life began, if your into creation =(,in the middle east or vicinity. yet i love the hoover dam theory. raymond you should be a movie writer =)
  • Dan
Well Disney will have two movies looking for the same thing. If any of you have watch Pirates III. Captain Jack uses the magic map and it clearly shows this "fountain of youth".
  • Mariah
So i did some research. I looked up the number 47 on Wikipedia and i found this:

Joe Menosky, who graduated from Pomona College in 1979 and went on to become one of the story writers of Star Trek: The Next Generation, "infected" other Star Trek writers with it, and as a result the number (or its reverse, 74) occurs in some way or other in almost every episode of this program and its spin-offs Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise. The number might be mentioned in the dialogue, appear on a computer screen a character is looking at, or be a substring of a larger number. The number also appears on some of the DVD menu screens for the episodes. They range from extremely obvious (for example, "shields are down to 47%"), to very well hidden.

    Kinda cool huh?
  • J.J.
    Page 47:

"This woman here depicted will posess unseen marks. Signs that she will be the one to bring forth my works. Bind them with fury. She will bring the greatest power unter untter desolation."
  • Chanelle
I think that the fountain of youth would be really cool, but I don't think that it will be the treasure for a possible third film. The two other treasures have been real objects, gold and artifacts. The fountain of life seems too mythical to be the treasure. Gates is a treasure hunter, that has meant solid artifacts so far. It just seems like too far a leap to have Gates searhing for a mythical object stoked in mystery of a different kind seems a stretch. Where would the connection to American history be? Whatever the outcome I hope they make a third film.
  • Vade Mecum
Page 47 needs to be important! I hope the writers do something to top their B average. I do love the fact that this is related to a real ongoing mystery. Although, it does needs to get better. If NT3 wants to return, it's time to bring in the big guns, pre say. Today, we are at a crossroads. It's time to get serious!
I do believe N.T. has some real clues for people to think about,
such as; Charolette, and the Statue of Liberty, which also relates to the Book of Revalations.
I ask, where are there real Masonic schloars?
  • Vade Mecum
Does anyone realize Walt Disney was a Mason? HMMMMMM
  • B. Y.
Remember in the first movie that Gates is a professional diver? How about that the 'life-altering' fact doesnt necessarily mean that it deals with life itself. Knowledge one and all can be just as life-altering, so long as it turns all that we know upside down. My belief? The bermuda triangle's explanation.
  • Nick
i believe miriah on this because if you look a most where writers are asked about things like this they drop little hints that dont become evident till the movie comes out which really sucks. but if you think about this, he says that it is the plot of star trek. there are many different plots in star trek TNG, deep space nine, Voyger, etc. all of these have three things in common, exploration of space or any other, the meeting of different spiecies thoughts or ideas, and highly advanced technology. i think that (possibly because i just played the cuotl in Rise of Legends) this either has to do with thehnology past its time back then perhaps not now, or perhaps it will be something about the colonization of America. For example virginia and their dissapearence or perhaps past Lincolns time which leads to many great story plots after all American history has more than 300 years worth
  • Nate
I believe if might be something on biblical aspects, maybe like Noahs Ark.
  • jason
maybe atlantis? although the fountain of youth would be quite interesting i dont see disney making 2 movies at the same time with a similar plot. although atlantis could be catergorized as mythical, it is a possibility.
  • John
Hmm, all seem to be amazingly good story plots but I agree with what was previously stated! Fountian of Youth is for Pirates, so Jerry wont let them touch that. Atlanits isn't really american, its more Greek so unless the spin off and make NT3: International Treasure that seems doubtful; however one person did bring up a good point. The first set of settlers in the new world landing in Roanoke Virginia and then disappearing all in one year. "Life-Altering" because it changed the way that settlers had to live, crops, protection, allies so on and so forth. Roanoke for the most part is still a mystery today, I think that would be a great 3rd film, and who knows maybe they can combine it with the Fountian of Youth; which is located in Florida according to Ponce De Leon not the middle East. Your call

I teach 7th grade ancient world history....the Ark of the Covenant has never been found after the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem???
  • carolyn
I know it has been done before in "Raiders of the Lost Ark", but, in my opinion, it would be the treasure-hunter's find of one million lifetimes!
  • carolyn
I got the idea from a National Geographic special I was just watching on Jerusalem. They were talking about the Knights Templar and their possible involvement in hiding the treasure of Jerusalem before the Babylonians arrived.
  • DD
I have read some theories in this blog that may be worth considering, however some of you may want to take another look at the movie. there is a mobile phone camera image of page 46 and 47 or 47 and 48. i will be anticipating the release of the dvd to enlarge the image to discover the secret and unravel the plot of the next movie. good hunting.
  • someguy
I believe page 47 is about the Roswell crash from 1947 (or a previous possibly ancient crash). Life altering because it reveals we are not alone in the universe and contains technology that mankind could benefit from. But the craft was covered up and hidden by who ever it was found by because they felt people were not prepared for such a thing.
Info about the crash was hidden away from even our government by Dwight D. Eisenhower who feared the military industrial complex and feared that they would use it for evil purposes. He left only one clue for only the president in the book of secrets (remember the president is the only one who can look at the book no one else) being the good president he is he wants to reveal this info to the world. The evil guy could be someone involved with the new world order or illuminati or some stooge of the military industrial complex.
This is the only thing that I could think of that would truly be life altering and possible. Not mythical / magical like the foutain of youth which is good for POTC / Indiana Jones but not national treasure.
  • someguy
Or ultimately maybe the president is the bad guy and wants Ben to find it for him.
  • callum
Raymond your stupid you just took the big hiding place of the cube in transformers and incoperated it into neational treasures.
  • halorules
page 47 is about a revelation about the end of days and america will bring destruction on to the world due to its bigotry narrow minded white people
  • Matt
Let me remind you all that 47 is my favorite number. Therefore, I will be appearing in the 3rd installment of the series and will reveal that the number 47 is really about the nations Independence. 47 is 74 backwards, 7/4 is Independence day. It will lead to a treasure unimaginable!

On a serious note, let's all realize that this number might also mean absolutely nothing. It was used to spur conversations such as this to see if it will be worth making a 3rd movie. The number 47 may never be revealed as to its true meaning.
  • Dave
Just remember that we have found the Treasure of the Knights of Templar and now we have found El Dorado, or the City of Gold. What is the last thing, if not the first thing that brought most explorers and Conquistadors to this continent. The Legendary Fountain of Youth. The final "tresure said to be on these shores.
As a side note, why didn't we see more in NT2 about the golden piece submerged in the cave that Gates notices when looking in the water? He must have looked into something to report to the President that page 47 exists and that is one detail left unattended....
  • Timothy
I think the NT3 will refer to something in the Roswell incident or Area 51. It is mentioned a couple of times in the NT:Book of Secrets film. Just my opinion. Also another option could be "Did we really land on the moon?"
  • Chanelle
Why is everyone so obsessed with 47? It could just be the page number and that is it. It is what is on the page that is important. In NT2 what page was the clue about Queen Victoria on, before or after page 47? Which president wrote it? You could set a time frame as to which president it was who wrote it and then a time frame for what it might be about. For example, if it were before the "moon landing" then you could know that is has nothing to do with that or area 51, or any other historic event....etc. That would at least narrow it down a bit as to a time frame since the book must be chronoligical and therefor depending on what page the entry about Queen Victoria was and which president wrote it. Could be helpful!
  • Cheuk
Alright guys prepare for this...? *I think this is the best opinion but its mine so what can i say?*

What I think is life altering, concerning the fact that the fountain of youth is-too mythical...
Is that Gates looks into something about the Mayans. Why the Mayans The Mayans ended their calender the year 2012. If don't know anything about 2012, look it up. They say its Armageddon, the end of the world.

Now think... isn't that life altering? Mayan treasure or something regrading the end of the world or year 2012? Something that will save humanity? - I'm quite intrigued, although I'm not a fan of star trek and the number 47 has no meaning to me, so i don't know what to think.
  • Cheuk
o yea and the Roswell crash thing is quite interesting, i hope this plays on into a third movie
  • johnny
This message is in regards to HALORULES! Obviouingsly you have some sort of racial tension. Let's not get off the subject maybe page 47 has something to do with jesus tomb or did anyone stop to think it might have to do with THE HOLY GRAIL?/?? Did anyone consider that. HALORULES you need to look yourself in the mirror and wonder if the world should come to an end because of bigotry because you showed us al on the internet you bigot Side by making your comment.

I agree with Jason actually. I am pretty convinced that it will be searching for Atlantis.

By the way I saw this film Friday Night and I must say it was good. I am not a fan of Nicholas Cage's acting and I hated HATED the first film because it was way too predicatble... but this one I actually enjoyed a lot. I am excited now for a third film
  • Timothy
OMG! 2012 never dawned on me. I have a home video I purchased from The History Channel about 2012:Doomsday. Nobody who has seen it wants to watch it again. It gets you thinking. Its very precise and accurate, too. Weird and the Winter Solstice of 2012 which is December 21, 2012 (12/21/2012) is the apposed "Doomsday". All ancient calenders stop on this day, biblical studies also stop on this day and so much more. I believe it will be Y2K all over again.

Daniel 2:47 "The king answered unto Daniel, and said, 'Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.'"
  • Meghan
Someone above suggested about Roanoke being an idea for the third movie, and I would agree! I would love to see them going through finding out about Roanoke and what happened to it. It is still a mystery 'til today.
  • Robert H. Gibbons
Let's think about the President's book of secrets. It was made in chronological order, with each President adding to the book. If the current President in Ben Gates' world wants to know what's on Page 47, then the event has to be early in the country's history. How about the fate of the Lost Colony in Virginia? We have a mystery, a code word, and perhaps another path the country might have taken. Robert H. Gibbons
  • ProudOwnerOfRileysBook
I love the idea of playing off context in the script of NT2. For example, the landing on the moon theory. I hope it isn't the Fountain of Youth, personally. It isn't historical at all, and I don't think it would do the movies justice.

HaloRules: I would appreciate it if you wouldn't trash America's citizens. It was rude, and out of place. Please refrain from further comments concerning "narrow minded white people." Much appreciated.
  • Cheuk
Guess we'll put it this way, the writers are having a writers block right now, a strike. Seems like they can take ideas from here. haha
  • ProudOwnerOfRileysBook
Cheuk - I heard about that! I guess they can :)
  • John
Interesting thoughts... on the dam, Hoover was a mason by some accounts and he served as the Secretary of Commerce under Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge, both known masons...there is enough there to run with....especially since it's in the Nevada area they could tie in Area 51. My only thought is, the fountain of Youth is supposedly in Florida somewhere, but perhaps they can take some artistic license with it.
  • david johnson
it's all about area 47, where the REAL secrets are kept!

    dj
  • Cheuk(Chuck)
Well i hope they go to asia somewhere... And the hoover dam to me isnt all that interesting... o.O
i live in vegas so i would know?
Area 51 would be interesting, but the book already has information that was "identified". As for the Mayan Calander and year 2012, there might not be enough evidence for it as well as atlantis.
  • S R
You are all wrong... page 47 contains the secret recipe fo KFC Original Fried Chicken. It was actually written by bottlenose dolphins who were visited by the Area 51 aliens while cruising around the Burmuda Triangle when they missed their true arrival date of December 21, 2012. Of course they couldn't risk flying home because they might be seen by a Star Trek cruiser. So, they went to the real location of the Fountain of Youth in New Orleans, logically because of the convergence of the Miss. river and the Gulf. Of course both French and Spanish explorers learned this, but that is another movie entirely. Anyway, it's convenient being just north of the Mayan Civilization and equally distant to the Hoover Dam and their secret underground chicken recipe labs hidden at St. Andreas, which was called Atlantis before the bigfoot colony tinkered with a nuclear device lost by the guys in Stargate, but suspected to be the real Stormtroopers and Darth Vader. Well, that's what I think anyway.
  • Jenny
I've got two comments regarding some of the comments already posted. I'm not saying my opinion is right or anything, just throwing out ideas.

One, wouldn't you think the City of Gold sort of mystical? Although, I do agree that Disney wouldn't have two movies with the same aim. I don't think they'd copy other movies, including Transformers (hover dam). That was a good idea though, it just so happens it was such a good idea that it was put in another movie . . .

Two, I kind of think the opposite of ProudOwnerOfRileysBook. I think they next movie will be on something that wasn't mentioned in NT2. Personally, I think it will be something competely different, something Riley didn't notice when Gates was flipping through the book of secrets since Riley left before Gates got to page 47. But I might be completely off.

I think it might have something to do with a major war. NT1 was based on the Revolutionary War. NT2 is based on the Civil War. I think NT3 will be based on another war entirly. And I think the treasure will be something other than what has already been found. I like the Mayan idea, I really do, but I just think it's too close in culture and time period to the City of Gold to be used in the third movie.

Again, I'm just throwing out some ideas. Not saying I'm right at all, just facilitating discussion.
  • Jenny
Ya know what, scratch all I just said. I agree full heartedly with SR! The writers of NT should take a serious look at that plot line, sheer genious I tell ya!
  • MartyFox
I seriously doubt that the fountain of youth is involved anywhere, and for this simple reason: it's impossible. All of the items in the National Treasure series are physical, as are the treasures. Even if the treasure doesn't exist, there is always a possibility that it does, because gold and artifacts are real and have, in fact, been found before. The fountain of youth is no such thing; it is an impossibility. As to what page 47 has written on it, I have no idea, but I can tell you this with the greatest of certainty; it is *not* the fountain of youth.
