Our friend Devin at CHUD has a bunch of new details about the upcoming fourth Terminator film, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Most of the information below will probably be revealed in the trailers and pre-release advertising, and is not all to spoilerish. But if you want to be kept in the dark, stop reading now. Here are the main details:
- John Conner (played by Christian Bale in the new film) is NOT the main character in the fourth film, but will have a more sizable role in the Fifth movie.
- The Main Character is a bad ass “Riddick”-like guy named Marcus (couldn’t they have come up with a better name?) who wakes up on post-apocalyptic earth, around 15 years before the future shown in the original Terminator.
- When the producers said that they are making a new trilogy, they aren’t kidding. The whole thing is apparently mapped out.
- Marcus is the star of the new trilogy.
- No Actor has been cast as Marcus yet.
- The action in Terminator 4 is described as “HUGE”, including some battles with the T-600s.
- The new story focuses on the degrees of difference between humans and terminator/human cyborgs.

uhh, conner is NOT the main character?! I’m not gonna talk too much shit just yet, but 1st McG, and now the savior of our planet in a secondary (or less) role? Whats the point of a 20 year character build-up, only to ignore it when he rises to the ultimate challenge? And not utilizing Bale as much as they can? Again, I will see the films, but this is not off to a good start. I think I might be less skeptical w a better director, but we can always hope for an excellent scribe.

Well, the title may suck but at least the concept sounds stupid.
Oh, wait a minute…

What????? Puhleeasse!!!

Sounds good to me..so far. Not enough info yet to make any snap judgements about it. My fingers are crossed.

Wow,
Literally everything about these projects suck.
The writers are awful. A sample of their past work: Catwoman, Primeval, The Net 2.0… whatever the fuck that is. Most of this other shit sounds like straight -to-video drivel.
And fucking McG? Really? That’s the guy they pick to resurrect one of the best action franchises ever? Come on! Fuck me. This is going to be painful because I know I’ll see all three in theaters and want to kick myself in the dick for doing it. Unfortunately kicking oneself in the dick is impossible, so I will be doubly frustrated.

stmirza: lmao! Well put my friend!I had mentioned before that I was hoping for good writers, and it looks like we are doomed. I too will be self-dick-kicking.

wth! How is Conner NOT the main character!? That’s like deciding to make a 4th new batman movie but having Robin be the main character and leaving Bats in the background.

^ Actually, this is like deciding to make a 4th Batman movie, but having it suddenly focus around a some guy named Marcus who goes around kicking Gotham badguy ass.
Seems they may by trying to play towards the younger generation with this. Do young kids care about Terminator? I thought it was just us 30 something’s who’ve been waiting 20+ years to see Reese’s flash-back/forward? war scenes elongated into an entire movie.

what about vin diesel? do you have any information Peter?

Seriously, if it was (almost) anybody but McG I might be excited about this. But his involvement just kills it. A visionary could pull together and shine despite the hack-work of low-rent screenwriting-by-committee. But McG, as will be his legacy, only makes bad worse.

Mr. Sciretta, how good is Devin’s information? Is it rock-solid or is it possible that some of this information is conjecture. Ok, I know I can check CHUD, but I’m more curious about Devin’s track record when it comes to plot details of as-yet-unreleased-unproduced films.
If his information pans out, then I’m with the other posters: pushing John Conner (JC anyone?) to a secondary or background character makes next to no sense. I’d need to lear a lot more before I gave the producers and McG the benefit of the doubt here.

What’s all the fuss? Conner has been rumored to be a side player in the new trilogy for quite a while, and again he’ll take a greater role in the last two films.
The info is hewre nor there. you can’t stretch the premise of John vs Terminators over three huge $150 mill a piece flicks. New characters must be brought into canon for this to work.
Sounds epic. My only hope is that they are rated-R. The apocalypse ain’t pretty.

Welp…
im not going to see it.

Why the fuck put the Terminator title to this movie? This outline sounds like shit and personally I lost all hope the minute they hired McG to direct the flick. I really hate that Christian Bale is going to be in this…he’s one of my favorites, but I don’t if I’ll be able to stop this movie when it’s released.

How would there be T-600 models in this movie if it takes place 15 years before the future of the first movie, which featured T-100s?
January 14th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
B-Sol,
Schwarzenegger was a T-800, not a T-100. so it makes sense for there to be T-600s
but anyway McG is crap and crap comes from crap. sooooo…..
….yeah prolly gonna suck. but i’m hopeful though

I’d say the effects will be awesome, but as for the story line its sounding a little weak at the moment, but I guess I’ll wait for more info before I crack the shits… hahha
