Why, why, WHY?!?!1
Why must Hollywood continue to butcher my childhood memories with all of these so-called remakes. Since the 'Baby-Boomer' generation is no longer a worthy cash cow as far as Hollywood is concerned, they are now eyeballing us Generation X-ers as the new cash cow. Since most X-ers should be around 25-35ish (some with young children in tow). What a not-so-great-way to introduce the great cartoons of yesteryear but by having overpaid Holly-would writers take one look at past animated childhood favs, gobble up the iconic images and poop out waste like this one. And the worst part...people are actually going out in droves to go see drivel like this.
I hope this fad of, "Let's make movies out of all the popular cartoons of the 80's" ends.
Like right now. Seriously.

There are a few other sites that are CONFIRMING that Jaden Smith WILL star in the remake... whether or not he can act, isn't he like 5 years too young???

krackajap,
Forbidden City Cop was pretty good.

On a related note, wasn't Jackie Chan's name also thrown around not long ago? The original 'Karate Kid' was a classic 80s movie, it wouldn't be right to remake it. That's why I think this reimagining with the 'Kung-Fu Kid' is the only acceptable choice - familiar storyline, different movie.

From the quote, it doesn't sound like he's involved in the movie at all.

It's a shame that most people only know him from Kung Fu Hustle, because he's actually pretty talented, and I'm sure he'd do a good job on a remake - it can't be any worse than Karate Kid 4.

"The art of this decade is Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, there is no arguing with that, circle the film around that and you have a hit….no freakin wires, no praying mantis, leave the crane kick in the 80s where it was sealed in fame…"

And what you'd be left with is a movie that's more homoerotic than 300 was.

it is bad, nobody wants to learn karate anymore, everybody is into MMA or jiujitsu....this movie was the most decent karate movie in the 80s and had incredible ratings.....why cant parents just let there kids watch the dvd, no special effects, no hip hop artist, just a man and his student conquering the odds...
I dont see karate making a comeback, especially with alot combat arts out there, Kung Fu would just be ridiculous....

It doesn't sound bad to me. Stephen Chow is an amazing actor and filmmaker. If anyone can do the film justice today, it's him. It is a minor quibble that it will be Kung Fu Kid rather than Karate Kid. What matters is that you get the best people to make it. If you don't like it just stick with the original and ignore the remake.
