What is the best movie soundtrack of the year? It’s a tie between Jason Reitman’s Juno which features some really cool indie folk rock from Kimya Dawson, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, which features an experimental original score by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood. I highly recommend both.
Juno is available now digitally through iTunes, and will be released in stores on January 15th 2008. You can preorder it on Amazon. The soundtrack features:
1. All I Want Is You, Barry Louis Polisar
2. Rollercoaster (instrumental), Kimya Dawson
3. A Well Respected Man, The Kinks
4. Dearest, Buddy Holly
5. Up The Spout, Mateo Messina
6. Tire Swing, Kimya Dawson
7. Piazza, New York Catcher, Belle & Sebastian
8. Loose Lips, Kimya Dawson
9. Superstar, Sonic Youth
10. Sleep (instrumental), Kimya Dawson
11. Expectations, Belle & Sebastian
12. All The Young Dudes, Mott The Hoople
13. So Nice So Smart, Kimya Dawson
14. Sea of Love, Cat Power
15. Tree Hugger, Antsy Pants
16. I’m Sticking With You, Velvet Underground
17. Anyone Else but You, The Moldy Peaches
18. Vampire, Antsy Pants
19. Anyone Else but You, Juno and Bleeker
There Will Be Blood Soundtrack will hit store shelves on December 18, 2007. You can preorder the soundtrack on Amazon. Listen to a few of Jonny Greenwood’s tracks online. Here is the tracklisting:

From what I heard online and the movie last night, TWBB is amazing. The soundtrack for Jesse James is also stellar…

I know I’m in the minority but…I totally hated the music in Juno. I just couldn’t take that stereotypical indie/folky/singer songwriter music. It’s in EVERY indie movie that deals with a suburbia or family relations. Old news. Boring. Juno would have been sweet with a classical, piano driven soundtrack or Billy Joel or something.
I really like the There Will Be Blood music though.

What about the Into the Wild soundtrack

What about the soundtrack from “once”? Not cheesy in a bad way and lots of raw and interesting love songs by very talented people.

I second the nomination for the Once soundtrack. Although it’s essentially a cross between The Frames and Swell Season, it’s still an excellent accompaniment to really cool film.

Across The Universe FTW!

I second the Juno soundtrack- the sounds of Kimya Dawson and the Moldy Peaches in specific really made this movie, and illuminated the performance of Ellen Page’s character, who actually suggested Dawson’s music. Other “indie” films don’t seem to have this close connection to the particular aura of the main character, and that’s what makes them seem stereotypical.
Once, which I think is one of the best films of the year, obviously has a great soundtrack, mainly because of the Frames, but it’s a musical movie; tough to compare, although it would be up there.

Has anyone come across a soundtrack to “Interview”? I watched it last night, had an interesting tune or two, but always in the background, hard to place the artists.
Thanks in advance.
