I am a little disappointed with the list, a few possible gems amongst a palm full of pebbles. The zombie/vampire rotation is squarely back in the zombie court so look out for the next vamp resurgence. What will it take to get some new angle on a plot or have we come full circle and now look to remaking 50's, 60's and 70's films or those that required special effects but lacked substance?

Shrek IV: I hate my Ass in this, Spiderman V: One Web To Far, Die Hard V.xii : Siege at Pleasant Gardens Retirement Home.....please stop now! If this is what humanity is demanding, lets prey global warming comes sooner...

As an aspiring screenwriter, I found "Passengers" to be the most interesting. As a sci-fi lover, it could prove to be very entertaining and exciting to watch. What will this world be like? What a very in-teresting concept---"Pasengers" sounds like a thrilling ride for all! I am there! Aaren J. Stewart

Excellent post! I hope some of these will get produced someday, or that the screenwriters will novelize the stories.

May I also add one of the best caper filmscripts I have ever read, "Let's Rob Fort Knox."

http://www.stevehops.com/Screenplays/fortknox.pdf

This script has been floating around Hollywood for years, with the likes of Gorge Clooney and Clint Eastwood attached to star.

Hi Peter and thanks for the great post. The full pdf didn't come up for me (must be heavily loaded after your hot post :)) so as a Don DeLillo fan I was just wondering about Barry Sonnenfeld's adaptation to his White Noise book. Shouldn't be mentioned here as well? http://individualathome.blogspot.com/2007/07/barry-sonnenfelds-adaptation-to.html thanks again

Re: Source Code

There is nothing more tacky, cheesy and unimaginative than a film that uses an unrelated computer term for a completely unrelated plot.

Scripts like that should be immediately shredded. If the scriptwriter doesn't have enough imagination to come up with a decent title, they obviously don't have enough imagination to write a decent script.

About the added blurbs:

"Edwin A Salt" sounds like a remake of the Costner/Hackman movie "No Way Out". That's not a bad thing. Enough time has passed for memories of it to fade.

"$40,000 Man" sounds like stupid low comedy, but possibly very funny, even a hit, depending on the cast.

"The Art of Making Money" looks like a remake of "Catch Me If You Can". It's even being done by the same studio, Dreamworks.

I don't know how much the "Untitled Michael Mann" movie would make, but it looks interesting. Depending on the cast, it could do small indie numbers or major hit numbers.

I'm surprised only two people recommended Diablo Cody's new script, "Jennifer's Body". She's the "It" girl of Hollywood right now.

And only two recommend "Valkyrie". Another Singer film in trouble? Another Cruise film in trouble?

"World War Z", will it be a low budget "Shawn of the Dead"/"Dawn of the Dead" or a big budget "I Am Legend"? Guess we'll see with the casting.

"Zombieland" sounds like a complete "Shawn of the Dead" rip-off.

Based entirely on these small summaries, my reaction is:

"Passengers" sounds really good. It also seems like a potential big boxoffice hit. I wonder if Keanu would star, or if he is just producing?

I also like "This Side of Truth". Sounds funny and open it on Valentines Day for some serious coin.

"The Way Back" might be a modest teen hit with a low, low budget.

All the political movies sound like bombs. If 2007 has taught us anything, it's to stay away from strident political films. Audiences get enough of that from the candidates on tv. They aren't paying for the privilege of watching it again on the big screen.

"Pierre Pierre" could set off a huge PR nightmare with France, but also mark the return of Jim Carrey to extreme comedy.

"Source Code" sounds like a standard action flick, but Topher Grace as soldier will be relentlessly lampooned. I love Topher, but a soldier? Seriously? A stiff wind could snap him in two.
