Wanted Movie Trailer

The first Wanted movie trailer was greeted with much ridicule online. The film was being referred to as a cheap “Matrix rip-off”. Universal has now announced that they are moving back the release date from March 28th to June 27th 2008. The studio head is trying to spin this move as a bow of faith in the film property, saying “Having seen it, it is just the perfect summer property.” I’m not quite sure I buy this, especially as I re-watch the trailer.

The Mark Millar graphic novel adaptation will now go head to head with UA’s Valkyrie and Pixar’s Wall-E. It seems like a bad day to release the film. I know the Tom Cruise movie isn’t tracking well, but going head to head with a Pixar film (especially their first Sci-Fi effort) seems like a horrible idea.

Wanted follows a young man (James McAvoy) who finds out his long lost father is an assassin. And when his father is murdered, the son is recruited into his father’s old organization and trained by a man named Sloan (Morgan Freeman) to follow in his dad’s footsteps. Angelina Jolie, Terence Stamp and Common also star.

All I’m sure of is that on June 27th, I will be in the theater watching Wall-E. Especially when having to choose between a Pixar film and… a wannabe bad-ass action film.

agreed. also, james mcavoy is easy to watch, as is morgan freeman, but the rest of the cast that rounds out Wanted makes you want to choose anything but.

To respond to you’re post Pete, I also have to point out that this movie, as currently advertised in it’s teaser trailer, doesn’t seem to put much emphasis on Morgan Freeman’s appearance in the film. It seems like they are selling this more on the action, violence, and “cool” direction, rather than who shows up in the film (aside from Jolie, of course).

As someone who has actually read the comic, I can safely say that if this trailer is any indication of what the final film will be, it’s gonna suck. The comic has so many bad ass characters and parodies of famous comic book villains, it’s a shame if they tone it down to have them just be featureless “assassins” If anything at least it will have nice visuals, thanks to Timur Bekmambetov.
