Peter Jackson’s adaptation of Alice Sebold best-selling novel The Lovely Bones is preparing to shoot in the MacDade Mall in Ridley Township, Pennsylvania. The production is transforming the location into a 1970’s shopping mall for the project. J.M. (Janetjunkie1) was able to snap a few photos of the recreations of the 70’s era mall stores. 15 more photos after the jump.
Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci and Rachel Weisz star in the film, which is set to hit theaters on March 13th 2009.

Mr jackson seems to take a *lot* of care over his props. Remember hearing from a Tolkien who visited the king kong new york set that all of the shop window dressings there were just as immaculate as these. Go detail!
For some reason i’m still concerned that this film could end up being a bit of a let down. Not so much because we’re used to action-jackson, but because of the delicacy of the story, which i’m worried fran walsh might bludgeon a bit. havent seen the screenplay though so cant really judge.

I’m 75% less interested with Gosling’s departure and Wahlberg’s entrance.

i went to the macdade mall yesterday to take a peek - according to some of the workers on the set, filming will take place tues 12/11, wed 12/12, thurs 12/13. i live within walking distance of the mall. the set is looking amazing. almost all of the stores are filled. in the ‘town news’ store - there are bins filled with penny candy, it’s so detailed. the fairfax diner has shelves of little boxes of cereal, loaves of bread, bagels, etc. there is a huge gazebo thing being built in the center. there is also a huge christmas tree on the little stage where ’santa’ used to be when the macdade mall was actually a full open for business mall.

My daughter and I went to MacDade Mall yesterday evening, where we stood outside in the drizzle, waiting for a peek of…..SOMEone! We saw cops, security guards, extras going in for hair/makeup, and LOTS of trailers in the parking lot. They also had those bright lights aimed at the mall entrance. We were kept at a distance, and there was the local NBC (Channel 10) news truck and cameraman there.
We spoke to several people who had been in the mall last weekend, and had seen the set decoration. Some hadn’t known a movie was to be shot there, and got their hopes up about the mall being renovated and new stores coming in.
We found out cast and crew ate at Nifty-Fifty’s on Monday night (they closed the restaurant for them), and Mark Wahlberg had been at Burger King early Tuesday, and Susan Sarandon had been to the Wawa across the street.
Anyway, we DID catch a VERY brief glimpse of Wahlberg, on his way to his trailer, and my daughter saw Sarandon, who was nice enough to stop and wave to the crowd from a distance!

It’s funny b/c I was just working in the mall up until June. Where every “new” store is, I can name the store that used to be there before they all started closing down. Wild.

I am going up to the MacDade mall tonight - my boyfriend was there earlier this morning looking for Jackson and no luck. He said that everyone there was there to meet Wahlberg but I am heading up with my Bad Taste & Dead Alive cover - I just can’t get over that Peter Jackson in Delco!!!!!!! I hope I can catch a glimpse!

Okay so I went up last night and me and 4 other lucky folks got to meet PETER JACKSON! He signed my bad taste dvd cover, even personalized it, I got 2 pictures with him, shoke his hand twice and chatted for a few minutes! I am still on cloud nine - my boyfriend is going back up this morning and we are trying again tonight so he can try to meet him!! I meet him after waiting 45 minutes and it was right as they started to wrap up for the night - oh and I saw Mark Wahlberg walk to his trailer…. I think a ton of folks got to meet him like 15 minutes later… from the cheer in the crowd across the parking lot, I am guessing he came out… but I only wanted Peter and I got him!!!
