Have you ever heard the F-word used in a Disney movie? How about Disney’s latest family film, Enchanted? Watch the clip below, it happens when the bus driver exits the bus. Listen closely. Someone with a new york accent appears to shout the F-word.
I assure you, this is not something we edited into the film clip. This official clip was sent to us from the mouse house. The same clip even appears on Yahoo Movies! And this same clip appears on the big screen in theaters around the world.
Watch/listen below. Do you hear it? After you watch the clip, please continue reading for a must read follow-up explanation…
Or watch the full clip below. It happens about 30 seconds in:
So did you hear it? Isn’t that crazy?
How sure are you?
This is another case of “It’s Alive!”/”It’s a Lion!” (if you get the reference, you get 100 geek points), because the New Yorker in question doesn’t actually say:
“Get the F*CK out of there!”
Listen again, one more time, and you will find that he actually says
“Get that BUS out of there”.
I’m sure some of the parents who attended this film during the holiday weekend may have been shocked at what they thought they heard. But in reality, what they heard was just the word “Bus.”
And I’m sure in the years to come, like most of the Disney Urban Legends, this will be told from friend to friend as a little known fact. I’m still surprised that Disney didn’t notice the similarity during the post production process. I’m sure they would like to avoid such misunderstandings. I’m betting they do an audio edit for the home video release.

No, it’s in the theatrical version, too. I heard it and thought, “Did I just hear that?” before deciding it was “get that bus out of here,” not “get the f*** out of here.” “That bus” certainly makes sense in context, and it makes more sense from a technical standpoint, too. The background noise almost certainly would not have been recorded live on the street, but would have been added later, in post-production. So it’s unlikely that anything would make it in by accident.

Yeah, i thought it was F*ck at first too, but after listening in shock about 10 times, and putting my ear right next to the speaker, you can definatley hear the “B”
November 26th, 2007 at 12:23 am
It’s definitely “Get that bus out of there”. But the first time I listen to it, I heard “f*ck”. Just as Derek points out, it takes a couple of listens.

I saw Enchanted with family this weekend and never thought twice about this scene. Funny though! Personally, I think people who search for this stuff or wring their hands over analyzing this sort of crap (yeah, including “it’s a lion!”) are absurd.

You can clearly hear him say bus.
It doesn’t even sound remotely like the F word.

“And I’m sure in the years to come, like most of the Disney Urban Legends, this will be told from friend to friend as a little known fact.”
The only problem is all this stuff disney is churning out now a days, are not classics, I’d be suprised if anyone remembers this movie ten years from now.
November 26th, 2007 at 7:17 am
go BUS yourself! lol …kinda makes you remember why mommys and daddys bacame mommys and daddys! I am sure no innocent kids actually recognized the F*/* word, its just those grown ups that are ao fond of the word.
November 26th, 2007 at 7:20 am
After reading the article I watched the clip to listen out for it, and after about 4 repeat viewings not hearing it, I realised what part you were talking about. Doesn’t really sound like the F word at all.
November 26th, 2007 at 7:27 am
I know everyone is surprised that a PG Disney movie would have the F-word in it but saying F**K in PG movies are not that all unique. 16 Candles (1984) for example was originally issued a R rating but on appeal they got a PG rating. Who could forget the words of Molly Ringwald at the beginning of the movie when she said, “They f**cking forgot my birthday!” Many PG teen movies of the 80’s allowed this until the PG-13 rating came into existence.

Yay for 100 geek points! ;)
November 26th, 2007 at 8:41 am
what a waste of time, you can clearly hear “get that bus out of here”, and i dont even speak english as my first language
November 26th, 2007 at 9:04 am
Actually he says both phrases. But it depends on what you’re thinking of when he says it. If you go on the assumption that he is going to drop an F bomb, then he will. If you then read that he said Bus instead of the F word and rewatch, then he will says Bus. It really depends on what you use as a reference point. Anyone who says that he said Bus instead of, watched the clip more than once.
Try it, think of the F word and watch the clip, its the F word. Then think of the word Bus and watch it and he says Bus. It’s definitely not the type of phrase that should be in a movie, but unless all you have on your mind is F*&% then I wouldn’t worry too much.
November 26th, 2007 at 5:32 pm
I’m sure Kids will listen “bus”…and the rest of us “f**k”, there so…we are going to be all pleased…future cinematography…
November 26th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
E, your hearing things. They did not drop the F bomb in a Disney movie. It’s BUS.
November 26th, 2007 at 6:02 pm
Have I heard the F word in a Disney movie???…cant say…but there was nudity in Disney’s 1984 “Baby: The Secret of the Lost Legend” movie!!!!! I remember cause I was 10 and my parents let me watch it cause it was a Disney movie and there was nudity and a brief sex scene and they were shocked cause it was a Disney movie!

Definitely “Get that bus outta here!”. I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney DVD loops over that background dialog with something clearer.
November 26th, 2007 at 11:19 pm
Actually this is a very good, audio illusion. Show the clip to someone who either has not seen the movie or has..doesnt matter.
Show the the photo with the word balloon, then scroll down to the shot clip with out them seeing the actual quoted line “Get the bus out of here.”
After they have heard the clip a couple of times, confirm with them that they heard “Get the F#%* out of here.”
Then: Show them the actual line and have them hear it again. Now they should hear the word “Bus” and not “F#%*”
Proves we hear what we want to hear….interesting huh?
November 27th, 2007 at 1:18 am
i must say that the first time i heard F***, but the second time i actually heard Bus… really funny stuff… by the way, i got the “It’s a lion” reference inmediatly, so i’m glad I have my 100 geek points :-)
November 27th, 2007 at 7:43 am
lol. bit like the ’sfx’ in the stars in lion king…someone saw the possible misunderstanding and kept quiet, i’m sure.
thanks for the points, but he definitely says ‘it’s huge’ after ‘it’s alive’. just begging for a THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!
November 27th, 2007 at 10:43 am
Regardless of whatever is actually being spoken, it’s way too close to ‘get the f**k outta there’ for Disney’s PR to put any successful spin on it. They should release new prints to theatres to avoid drama…
November 27th, 2007 at 1:13 pm
I think it’s so clear that he says “BUS.” The F-word never would have crossed my mind.
November 27th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
In a growing world where swear words are becoming more and more common in everyday language, it wouldn’t surprise me if Disney films did start to drop off the odd F-word to the minors.
November 28th, 2007 at 6:34 am
Yeah, that’s what’s offensive–a word that sounds like a curse word–not them employing racial stereotypes for children to laugh at. Good catching it!
November 28th, 2007 at 7:06 am
F*ck me. “F*ck” is a very common word in everyday use. And a very useful one it is, too :)
Didn’t Disney creat Touchstone to put out more risqué pictures, like its first, Splash in 1984.
November 28th, 2007 at 10:21 am
Oh noes, they said fuck on tv! Call the freaking pentagon!
November 28th, 2007 at 12:29 pm
I heard the word fuck untill i read onwards and listening hard for the word bus.
November 28th, 2007 at 12:41 pm
I think the only reason we hear “Get the fuck outta here” is because we’re trained to hear that from pissed off drivers in NYC. Hearing something not 100% clear, your brain tries to fill in the parts you didn’t hear with what should be there. Angry driver in NYC? Get the Fuck outta here!
November 28th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
I heard bus here, without even knowing what I was listening for.
November 28th, 2007 at 3:33 pm
I clearly heard BUS. Didnt even have to think twice.
F**K, however, has been used in PG-13 movies, I am completely positive (although the name(s) slip my mind)
November 28th, 2007 at 3:50 pm
The first couple of times I thought it was “get the fuck outta there,” then when I read it was bus I am now hearing “bus”.
November 29th, 2007 at 10:29 am
epic failure accomplished, all you fucktards have wasted time for nothing, as a reward, you get a heap of wasted time and shit in your pockets.
November 29th, 2007 at 9:56 pm
Clearly says, “Get that bus out of there!” I wouldn’t have even thought that it said the f-word if it hadn’t been suggested.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:38 pm
I am honestly so desensitized to swearing in these times that I would not have even noticed it. Not that I swear much, but I hear it so much that I just don’t take notice anymore.
December 1st, 2007 at 2:15 pm
Man, i love how people are actually debating about this. Any moron can clearly hear him saying “Get that bus out of there.” wtf is wrong with half of you. hah
December 1st, 2007 at 8:23 pm
OH, nooo i found the ‘f’ word in 101 dalmations. glenn close says it on one part where she’s either getting in or getting out of a car, I can’t quite remember.
me and my best friend found it one day when we were watching a bunch of kid movies. haha
December 2nd, 2007 at 1:11 am
Um…I always heard bus, but okay…
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:10 am
The real question here is …. Who really gives a fuck?
December 2nd, 2007 at 4:32 pm
I sooooooo agree with Shiva H Vishnu.
I mean, who really gives a shit. This just proves again that Americans (I am lucky to not count myself into that one) have their priorities f’d up
December 3rd, 2007 at 9:14 am
The fuck/bus word is not very clear, but the word preceding it is defintely “that” not “the,” so “bus” makes more sense.
January 15th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Actually, you hear what you expect to hear. Before I read the explanation, I could swear I heard the F-word. Now I hear “bus”
April 6th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
I hear “get the f*ck out of there” but why would they say get the bus out of there? i dnt get it… but regardless.. this should’ve been fixed and/or edited..
they know little kids are listening and this needs to be reheard to hear the actual script. thats not right.
April 20th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
lol doesnt seem realistic for a new yorker to say “get the bus outta there” who would say that?? the F word seems more plausible but since its a Disney movie… they probably edited it
May 27th, 2008 at 5:25 am
Sounded like, “Get the f*** out of here”
