I’ve said from the beginning that a live-action GI Joe movie has the potential to be a great action flick, or a cheesy unintentionally funny disaster. With Mummy director Stephen Sommers attached, I’ve been leaning towards the latter, while secretly wishing for the former. And the script rumors that have leaked lead to Hasbro issuing a public statement to fans, hoping to assure them that “we know what we’re doing.” But today Paramount has announced the first casting in the August 7th 2009 tentpole, and it doesn’t look good.

You might recognize her from the tabloids and gossip sites. Miller will play the female lead which is being described as “a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage.” Ugh…

I have high expectations for G.I. Joe and I like Sienna Miller. She was great in Factory Girl. I don’t see how casting her would ruin the movie. Anyways, the male leads are what’s important for this movie.

The main reason the GI Joe movie will be a disappointment isn’t Sienna Miller (love her) but the fact that it will never be able to be anything other than a military/army/war movie with the GI Joe name. Kind of like how Miami Vice was just your average cop/action movie with the Miami Vice name thrown on it.

I don’t think she looks the part of The Baroness tho (I assume that who she’s playing) I think Jolie would make a better Baroness
as for runing He-Man, how are they doing that? So far everythign seems to be positive information. (unless by ruining He-Man you mean making a movie at all and if that’s the case then just don’t watch it)

If you thought Transformers was an abortion, I can’t wait to see what kind of trash Sommers is cooking up with this crappy toy turned cartoon turned movie crapfest. Hopefully a dud of Van Helsing size proportions.

I’ll grant you that Sienna Miller is better for who she shags than what movies whe’s in, but she DOES get rave reviews for her performances (for Interview & Factory Girl, for ex.). Plus maybe she’ll manage to make the Baroness look hot (an accomplishment in itself!) and I’m not sure a movie like G.I. Joe is one which requires Oscar-winning-caliber acting.
