Naomi Watts in Angels & Demons

Angels & Demons may be delayed due to the writers strike, but that preproduction of The Da Vinci Code prequel has marched on. Naomi Watts (King Kong, Mulholland Dr., 21 Grams) has signed on to appear opposite Tom Hanks in the new Ron Howard film. Watts will likely play Vittoria Vetra, the adopted daughter of Leonardo Vetra, a scientist working at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Geneva, Switzerland. Her character functions much in the same way as Audrey Tautou’s character served in The Da Vinci Code.

I was actually rather disappointed by Audrey Tautou in the original Code, and would have much preferred to see Julie Delpy as Sophie Neveu. And it’s not like Audrey Tautou isn’t a good actress, that couldn’t be further from the truth. For some reason I just didn’t like her in the role. Watts seems like a good choice for Vittoria Vetra. What do you guys think?

Angels & Demons has been pushed back for a May 15, 2009 release.

First the announcement of Jolie in the Thomas Crowne Affair sequel, then Watts in the sequel to Da Vinci. I don’t understand why A list actresses are agreeing to be in SEQUELS of subpar adaptations of novels.

I was thinking someone exotic and brunette (that’s the feel of the character I got from the book), but I guess Watts isn’t a terrible choice.

If they chose a French actress fpr Sophie Neveu, why would they choose an AUSTRALIAN one for Vittoria? Why not look at Italian actresses like Monica Bellucci (obvious I know, but I don’t know a lot of Italian actresses, I’m sure there’s a lot of other choices), or at least girls of Italian origin: Rachel Bilson, Rachael Leigh Cook, Carla Gugino, Ellen Pompeo, Marisa Tomei, Sophia Bush,… Naomi Watts isn’t the most Italian looking broad.

    Ugh, Watts?

You know, there’s a reason why David Lynch cast her to play a terrible actress in Mullholland Drive…

Watts is so wrong for Vittoria, it’s not even funny.

well, i don’t think Watts will be good enough for Vittoria Vetra, i mean, she’s a great actress, but i rather see someone else as Vittoria. I LOVED Audrey Tautou as Sophie Neveu, i think her performence was awesome. Let’s see how it comes… until may 15 2009 :)

I found it terrible that Naomi Watts is playing Vittoria Vetra. We have the image of an Italian dark skin girl and Watts does not fit the part. She is a great actress, but I disproove of her participation. I still will see the movie just to prove to my self that I was right.

Mh… I thougt, it would be a brunette and an exotic character, maybe like Halle Barry, or so! The first thing i thought when I finished reading the book was, that Halle Barry will act the rol of Vittoria Vetra. For Maximilian Kohler I would nominate Anthony Hopkins…

I have to say that Watts is not what I pictured but I like her & think she is going to do good in the part. I looved Audrey Tautou as Sophie Neveu. Can’t wait for this movie to come out.

Ayelet Zurer now plays the role of Vittoria…so its ok wid me…and i would love to see Anthony Hopkins playing Max Kohler.Hopkins does his acting with his eyes and the character being a paralysed one..i think Hopkins is the best man to play the role…
