I first read the book Bringing Down the House a couple years back, and knew instantly that Hollywood would make a movie about this real life tale of how six M.I.T. Students took Vegas for Millions. The feature film version is titled 21 and stars Across the Universe’s Jim Sturgess in the lead, Kevin Spacey as the teacher/leader, in addition to Kate Bosworth, Laurence Fishburne, and Aaron Yoo. Sure, director Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!, Monster-in-Law) doesn’t instill confidence, but it’s hard to mess up a heist film (although Oceans 12 accomplished that feat). The new movie trailer makes the movie look very fun. Check out he trailer after the jump.

You can watch the trailer in High Definition on Yahoo! Movies. 21 Hits theaters on March 28th 2008.

the movie looks very promising, although the subject has been touched by many productions by now… Kevin Spacey, great as always… i’ll definitely read that book before seeing this movie.

Well I’ve liked all of this director’s movies so far, this one looks pretty entertaining too

Based on the trailer alone, they’re clearly taking a number of liberties with the source material. They’ve got a loaded cast — which only means so much (again, Ocean’s 12) — I hope they go for the slow tension build-up of the book, though the trailer suggest otherwise.

The original book and team of MIT kids who used math to beat the casinos were mostly all Asian or half-Asian. The book was a best-seller on the NY Times for several weeks which indicates that people loved to read about them despite their ethnicity. It’s sad that the studios could not cast the actors as realistically, choosing only white actors. It makes the movie less true to the story and destroys a main component of how the team pulled it off for so long- of course white millionaires spending massive amounts money in casinos would get noticed by security.

I’m excited to see it too, I hope it stays somewhat true to the actual story. I know Mike Aponte and David Irvine, and I’ve been studying their techniques they used in Vegas. You can get them from their site http://www.blackjackinstitute.com …hopefully one day I’ll be as good as them :)
