We loved loved LOVED Juno, so we’ve anxiously been following blogger turned stripper turned author turned screenwriter Diablo Cody’s bevy of upcoming projects. The one project that seemed more interesting than the rest is a horror movie titled Jennifer’s Body. Megan Fox is signed on to star as a “girl who eats boys.” Cody describes the movie as “Juno but with cannibalism and evisceration.” IMDB describes it as “A newly possessed cheerleader turns into a killer who specializes in offing her male classmates. Can her best friend put an end to the horror?”
While I always thought this idea showed the most promise, it also the easiest to screw up.Let’s face it, Megan Fox is just a pretty face (oh, and a great looking body), she’s no Ellen Page in the acting department. And the film is being produced by Fox Atomic which has yet to turn out a good film in my opinion. But I now have new found hope in this project because Juno and Thank You For Smoking helmer Jason Reitman has signed on produce the new film. With Reitman abroad making the decisions, you can be sure this won’t be complete shit.

After TYFS and Juno, I have the highest faith in Reitman - who seems to be aware of the mistakes his father has made (not knocking Ivan though) and aware of what comedy needs right now - originality.
I highly doubt that Diablo and Reitman would proceed with a film if they didn’t think they could make gangbusters, in terms of creative spark and box office. These two have the world in their hands now and they are both smart enough to know it. They both know the difficulty of dark comedy, and even more, horror comedy, so Idle Hands this will not be (not to knock Idle Hands, it was underrated).
I think Diablo is going after the Cherished ’80s with a vengeance, with Juno being our generation’s Fast Times, and she’s quoted as loving Rosemary’s Baby, so the girl knows female horror.
As for Megan Fox, she’s the new Phoebe Cates and nothing more. Personally, I find her exponentially more appealing as a body and as an actress (lick! smile!) than Jessica Biehl (boring) and Alba (talentless, obnoxious).

Megan Fox is a terrible, terrible actress. If she is headlining this flick, count me out.

It seems to me that people have just forgotten the past ever happened, and have no real concept of what “good” or “original” actually is.
Thank you for Smoking was OK at best. Mostly because of the acting. But it was NOT exceptional by any standards. And I would bet money Juno is even less so. These films will quickly be forgotton. Flavors of the week. But then I suppose alot of people do want the same thing over and over, just in a different package.

Thank You For Smoking was a wicked book. There’s no way they could go wrong.
Juno, on the other hand, don’t even get me started. Suffice it to say, I have my problems with that movie and its script.
