Transformers 2 Proceeds Into Pre-Production

Transformers 2

Variety reports that Transformers 2 is far enough along to proceed with pre-production, location scouting and advance special effects work. This must mean that the studio at least has a thorough treatment in the can, if not a first draft. Michael Bay hopes to start shooting in June 2008, but if the strike lasts several months, the production will likely have to delay principal photography.

Meanwhile, Michael Bay is warning Transformers fanboys to not believe what they may read on the internet forums. Bay claims that DreamWorks is prepared to leak misinformation onto the internet to prevent or obscure potential real leaks.

“One thing I do know is I know how to screw them up more,” Bay told Rotten Tomatoes. “We’re going to leak a lot of false information all over the place. I now know their game. They’re going to get a lot of script treatments that they think are going to be the script. They will never see the script. We’ve got scripts and treatments written up that we’re going to leak. No one’s going to know. There’s one out that’s fake right now. There are going to be many others.”

Bay is talking about a 13-page treatment dated October 2nd, which was leaked online last month. Two unrepresented writers claimed responsibility for that document.

Yeah, well so what? Bay, your Transformers was a terrible movie. Leaking a crappy script to this sequel isn't going to be a major loss.

Wow, listening to some of you on here, I have to say you guys do not know anything about the Transformers. The movie was good, but it could of been better and I will state my reasons. First off, i disagreed with Michael Bay's choice for the voice of megatron, they should of had Frank Welker (the original voice of megatron) as the voice of this current megatron. The second thing I did not like was the way Bay shaped cybertron in the re-telling of the climatic battles on cybertron to Sam and Carly. In no way did I imagine cybertron to look like that. I had envisioned a viewing of cybertron like that from the original cartoon. The third thing i disagreed with was the name for the tank in the movie; his name was devastator. To me devastator was a gestalt transformer (for those who do not know what a gestalt is, its when a number of transformers combine to form an even larger transformer ... IE: the constructicons forming devastator). The fourth thing was the design of Starscream. He did not look fearsome in any way. The original design from the cartoon was much better. The last thing was the death of Jazz, but this i can live with as they can find a way to re-create him in the sequal.. if they decide to do this. All I have to say is Micael Bay did not do his homework when it came to understanding the original cartoons and why they were so GREAT!

As for the sequals (and YES there will be two more movies) this is what i would recommend for Michael Bay, IF he ever has a change to bring this into the storyline. 1. Explain in the movies the concepts of Autobots and Decepticons, explain that the decepticons were originally military robots while the autobots were civilian robots. 2. Bring into the picture the matrix!!! maybe having the remaining piece of the allspark that Optimus kept fused with his spark to create the matrix of leadership, and the ONE thing that can kill the rebuilt Megatron/Galvatron or even Unicron... If they ever decide to bring in Unicron. 3. Explain the concept of how transformers can trasnform from small objects into large robots through the use of a material called Ore-13. 4. Excalate the are on multiple fronts. Have teams of autobots stationed around the world to fight various factions of the decepticons (this would be in the final movie) 5. Allow Megatron to come back to life, either by the hands of his minions or by Unicron or by the absorption of the allspark. 6. Bring in more autobots and decepticons.. And i mean A LOT MORE!!!!,

For the Autobots, i would like to see in the next two movies: Ultra Magnus, Hotrod, Kup, blaster (and his cassettes ramhorn, steeljaw, rewind and eject), cliffjumper, wheeljack, prowl, perceptor, Arcee, skyfire, wrreck gar, The Arialbots, The DINOBOTS (This group is a MUST), Omega Supreme and finally...... Metroplex or Fortress Maximus

For the decepticons, I would like to see in the next two movies: Soundwave (and his cassettes ravage, laserbeak, rumble and frenzy), shockwave, the seekers (that includes thundercracker, skywarp, dirge, ramjet and thrust), the constructicons, the predacons (who form predaking), astrotrain, blitzwing, the stunticons (who form menasaur), Trypticon (that HUGE dinosaur and of course, last but not least.......... UNICRON.

If Michael Bay has any brains, he will research the history of this deep-routed franchise and its glorious history and make a truly epic sequel. Oh and just so you guys know, Sam is supposed to be Spike from the cartoon series and he ends up marrying a girl by the name of Carly.. so maybe Bay can do something about that too.. maybe giving the character played by Megan fox the middle name of Carly.. that would be good :)

maybe bay should spend less time making fake treatments, more time working on making the best film possible.

I'm a fan of Transformers (Gen 1 as they're now known) from back in 1984 when the comic was out, the cartoon was on the horizon, and the toys were number one on my must-have list :)

Michael Bay's Transformers bears little resemblance to those memories, and is why I really dislike it so much. The robot re-designs are bad bad bad (why not make them look like the Masterpiece Transformers?); Megatron looked ridiculous; the Trans-animations were overdone, while fans and critics foam at the mouth over the CGI; the origin was completely messed up with an awkward voiceover; "the Allspark" sounded dumb and should have been "The Matrix" (but I guess it's obvious why they changed that name, for the worse); Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) having to say "My bad", one of the most annoying catchphrases in movies recently; the cinematography was terrible, particularly in the fight scenes (and thanks to the bad robot designs, telling one robot from another was confusing); the "acting" from those involved was embarrassing...

I have nothing good to say about this Transformers movie, other than it increases the entertainment and rating value of the 1986 animated movie ten-fold. I'm sure it made enough profit to green-light several sequels, but this is nothing like the Transformers I remember or expected.

"From sssspace!" - Deck the Halls. My biggest disappointment with Transformers - which as a film did what it needed to do, any criticism of a such a great popcorn flick based on toys is retarded - is that Bay didn't allow the robots to fight off-Earth. To justify a sequel, Bay needs to take the action interstellar and by that I do not mean home planets (though that'd be awesome). I just want to see both factions fight it out amongst the stars. I want to watch it and catch a severe sense of vertigo.

Not enought sci-fi is set in space anymore. Transformers should get to it before Voltron is released.

@TheDohDoh - To rain on your parade, your comment above also counts as "criticism", so don't be so quick to call other people's words "retarded".

Anyway, yes, some space action would be good to see.

Michael Bay should have named this movie "Giant Alien Robots from Outerspace Attack Earth", cause that wasn't Transformers. Bay's good at blowing stuff up, not thinking or "trying" to be creative.

Wow, you guys are really pathetic. I'd love to see you try to make the Transformers movie the way Bay did because you all know you can't.
  • avoidz
Okay, brad, so you're a Bay fanboy. "We got one!"
  • brad
Yeah I am. I'd love to see you all even make an ATTEMPT at making a Transformers. You know you can't.

Man you guys just need to relax a bit!
I'm not a Michael Bay fan by any means! But all you guys are doing is bitching about the way the transformers look compared to the originals. Yes I agree with the fact that the cartoon from the 80's is a great cartoon and the transformers them selves are well done, But Do those designs really hold up today?

No they don't! Using a 30yr outdated plane for Starscream would have looked Retarded and not scary looking at all. (as his scariness in the movie is questioned above) As for using Frank Welker for Megatrons voice, I thought the same thing till watching the voice over in the special features on the DVD! His voice really didn't fit it just wasn't threating enough.

Now i do agree with the look of cybertron! It was not good at all but lets face it if everything was kept the way the franchise was in the 80's and did not grow at all well then yes all the old fans would be greatly impressed and very happy, however there would be alot less in the way of bringing in new fans. As the looks of the Gen 1 transformers is a little dated in this day and age!
  • I, for one, think Transformers was bad ass. Definitely one of my favorite movies last year.
  • ACE
I think both sides have some great points. But the bottom line is...Bay can't please everyone!!! I did like most of the movie, however, the one think that really bothered me was the fighting scene with optimus and megatron. He made it look like megatron was stronger, smarter and more powerful than optimus. From what i remember, every decepticon feared optimus prime. I know megatron would end up fighting him, but he would always back down and flee the scene! yes, cybertron could've definitely been better and more of the original names should've been used for the humans! the funny stuff needs to go, but other than that, i think the movie was pretty good. Hopefully, transformers 2 will bring more characters and better fighting scenes!

I loved Transformers, it was off the chain! HOWEVER. There were a few things that pissed me off as well. 1. The point about all decepticons fearing Optimus is the truth so the final fight between Megatron & Optimus should've went a little differently. I do like how they used famous lines from the original movie, that was a nice touch. But if you remember when Optimus & Megatron fought in the original movie Optimus MERKED most of the decepticons on his way to Megatron in that awesome scene. 2. Jazz... W.T.F.? EVERYONE knows Jazz is a damn PORSCHE. That was one of the reasons Jazz was my second favorite Transformer next to Optimus. And because of the way he talked too, but Jazz is a Porsche 911 turbo, not some wack ass pontiac (BIG thumbs down) on that one. Also, I didn't like the way Bumble bee's voice sounded at the end, what's up with that? He sounded like Mr. Bently or some British butler... Anyways, other than those things, it was an awesome movie. Think about it, when you make a Hollywood blockbuster film, the point is, you're trying to appeal to all audiences, not just one particular fanbase so Michael Bay had to make Tranformers the movie as it would be if it really happened. If he made it exactly like the cartoon it would be cheesy as hell and everybody would still be pissed off and full of critisizim. So go 'head Michael Bay, good job, . . . Just make sure you let Jazz get rebuilt & he's a PORSCHE this time.

I'm not a pro voice-over artist or anything, but the voices I can do, I can do really well, and a few are from Transformers. I can do the folloing Transformers with no vocal effects needed: Megatron, Unicron, Galvatron, Starscream, Grimlock (Dinobots), and my most impressive (if I do say so myself) Soundwave. If Michael Bay, or anyone involved in the Tranformers movies is reading this, I offer my vocal talent to you, and would love to be involved... Of course I doubt they're reading this, but it's worth a shot... Right?
