Nicolas Cage as Hulk Hogan

PageSix spotted Nicolas Cage and director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) at Saturday Night’s Ring of Honor professional wrestling event at the Manhattan Center ballroom. The duo were at the event researching the upcoming film The Wrestler, in which Cage plays an older wrestler named Randy “The Ram” Robinson. The pair stayed through the entire event and “interviewed several of the grapplers”. The fact that the actor/director team were researching the film at an indie wrestling event and not at a big WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) Pay-Per-View should give any sceptics more faith in this project. The Wrestler is targeting a January 7th 2008 start.
