A couple days ago we reported that NBC was delaying (read: canceling) the Heroes spin-off Heroes: Origins, likely due to the upcoming Writes Guild Strike.
Now that the WGA have officially announced that a strike will begin this Monday, we have more bad news for fans of the superhero television series. TV Guide is reporting that the second season of Heroes may be end much sooner than expected. Apparently, sources claim that the show is shooting an alternative ending which could serve as the season finale on the December 3rd episode. Originally the episode was to serve as the conclusion of the current “Generations” story arc.
IGN writes:
“This gave the show a better place than most to prematurely end the season, as it least was intended as the culmination of several current plotlines. While more episodes have been shot beyond that, they would likely simply be held for whenever the show goes back into production, so that the next storyline doesn’t have to be interrupted in the middle.”
If the Writers Guild Strike is somehow averted, the alternative footage will not air, and the series will continue into the next “volume” (aka story arc).

Just pay the writer’s what they want. They are the brains behind all this anyway.

I think the networks are damn stupid for not wanting to give in on this. They’ll lose SO many viewers, I think. There are a lot of good shows, and when the re-runs start, then what? Granted, I don’t have cable, I have to watch all my shows online… but still. It’s like, ‘Well, we’re going to deny you, our viewers, the very people that make us tick… we’re going to deny you your favorite shows, just because we don’t feel like paying up.’ What am I going to do? Ugly Betty and Heroes are getting SO good right now!

As a hardcore Heroes fan, i am extremely dissapointed in the actions takin by the networks to ‘make it work’ without the writers by making an alternate ending to the second season, because guess what? it won’t work. the alternate ending will totally mess up the great story structure that has been established in the show thus far. I am also extremely dissapointed in the writer’s greed for wanting more money, however i don’t know the whole story so i will just stop with that comment. I also feel it is completely arrogant to think there aren’t people out there who can write for shows such as heroes and make it work just as well, or perhaps even better. as a fledgling writer myself, i would love to have the opportunity to write heroes episodes and would do so for what i’m sure is much less money. people want so many ridiculous material things, they forget about whats important in life. i mean, how hypocritical is it for a person writing about heroes and overcoming horrific trials and tribulations going to demand more money for said writings. it just doesn’t make sense to me. there are people making 5 dollars an hour to just eat and sleep in a nice place,( i know, i’m currently one if them) and you want more money for doing a job you love? Makes no sense.

This strike sucks. The writers union sucks. Who ever heard of a union for jobs that require talent? Its insane. Unskilled labor should be unionized - everyone pushes a broom the same. Skilled labor can be unionized - you can learn skills. Talented work should not be unionized - not everyone has talent. Why should the writers of Heroes suffer because of some hacks that shouldn’t even have a gig in the first place? The network has to do what it has to do I suppose. Its sad, heroes was my favorite show, now its broken because of the writers guild is full of greedy hacks.
