Devin over at CHUD has seen the trailer for the upcoming JJ Abrams-produced monster movie code-named Cloverfield/1-18-08. The trailer which runs 2 minutes and 16 seconds will debut in front of Beowulf and will feature the final title for the movie (we reported this earlier in the week). So what is the title?
Cloverfield
That’s right, the reel marked as Trailer #1, V.17, with “Newest FX Shots” features the titlecard “Cloverfield“. Keep in mind this could just be a placeholder until the real title is announced, so things could change. Alex and FirstShowing seems to believe that mainstream audiences know the film better under the date title 1-18-08, and that it would be stupid to call the film Cloverfield. And I think he has a point because Cloverfield has nothing to do with anything that happens in the movie (at least from what we know). So while the audience online knows the film as Cloverfield, the brand recognition doesn’t translate to mainstreat audiences. And that’s why I don’t believe this is the actual title of the movie.
CHUD also has a description of the trailer, which doesn’t feature much information (if I was you, I’d wait to see it on the big screen, as it seems like more like a trailer you want t experience) but it does confirm that the movie features a big monster (”We see the big monster briefly passing between two buildings. I couldn’t make it out at all, but it appeared to be HUGE.”) and smaller creatures, and that the video tape is eventually found in Central Park (as we reported during the last days of production).
The new Cloverfield movie trailer will premiere in front of Beowulf on November 16th 2007.

it’s gonna be online before that, just like they said Wanted was going to be in front of American Gangsta, but it is online now

Eh. I had my guesses. But now that the viral marketing is so slow, I really am not caring as much about this movie.

they aren’t going to display the final title prior to the beowulf premiere. and what’s with all of this “THE FINAL, ULTIMATE, BE-ALL-END-ALL TITLE IS”, followed up by “keep in mind this title could be a place holder”??

I’ve been looking at some of those viral marketing websites for this movie & one of them, a fictitious company named Tagruato (.jp instead of .com if you want to look it up) also has something to do with this Slusho (also a .jp) that you can’t have just 6 of has a subsidiary fictitious company named ParaFUN that makes wax. I think I know what the monster is now….. it’s the Wax Phantom from Scooby-Doo!!! I mean why else would the dude in the orig. trailer say it’s alive? wax isn’t supposed to be alive & he kind of sounded surprised & scared to death. i know if i saw a gigantic Wax Phantom i’d be freaking out and screaming it’s alive too!

Was the trailer on A& E tonight. There seems to be some buzz it was. Can someone verify?

There were only 6 different variations of Godzilla…(slusho) this could lead to another variation
with the lady and her stomach exploding..opens it up to a Alien movie
either way…this movie wouldnt be kept secret if there was a new monster…this is some kind of movie made from a monster or monsters we have seen with variants…and it looks well done.

the trailer shows on channel 29 now. the movie looks cool but if they dont show the monster than i wont see it. it seems like a survial horror movie but it might not be as cool as the trailer makes it seems. i just wont to see huge 2008 new york being ripped apart
