That photo above is not a photoshop creation, it’s a Predalien from Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem. Yes, that is an Alien and Predator hybrid.
Directors Greg and Colin Strause have also provided USA Today with a couple nice quotes, promising that this sequel is “more like the classic early Alien and Predator movies we grew up on,” Dark, Scary, Rainy. They also claim to have cut back on the computer generated effects, and have amassed an arsenal of 12 creature suits.
“You’re not going to see 50 digital creatures running around,” Greg says. “We want to bring the franchise back to basics. That’s what made them so frightening in the first place.”
I like the enthusiasm, and the idea of less CG and more costumed creatures in theory. And I even admit that the trailer for AVP-R looks promising, despite a horrendous first film. What do you guys think?

Nice…Original Alien (Scott/Cameron) and Predator (McT) are really invincible, but this looks promising, and far, far away from that horrible first movie from that guy, Paul W. S. B. S. Anderson…
Can’t wait…

Completely stoked to see this one. I think people should lay off the comparisons to the Alien films, b/c no matter what Aliens vs Predator is a different beast. It’s definitely screams “fun and gore” more than the source franchises, b/c it’s a showdown between two non-talking entities. The first AvP was a disgrace, but the Strauses definitely seem genuine and their redband trailers have been commendable thus far. The image above a beaut, just sci-fi fanboy dream imagery of the highest order. And the fact that the suit/mask is well lit and remains freaky and faithful says A LOT. I’m sold. This film has the ability to bring back both creatures in separate films, which is what the first battle-pic should have done.

Love how they gave the Alien the Pred-dreads. LOL. It’s like Conan O’Brien’s “If They Mated…” via Fangoria…in the best way possible.

I’m not sure I see the… advantage of a hybrid species. Maybe that’ll become clear in the movie, but the Predators weren’t biologically enhanced themselves. It’s their technology that enhanced them. Otherwise, they’re just flesh and blood with a 4-point jaw (which is cool by the way). Talented warriors as they may be, they rely on their technology and their ability to survive is based around training instead of evolution. It’s the Aliens that are biologically enhanced/evolved to survive the way they do, back to the 1979 “Alien” movie with S. Weaver and Tom Skerritt.
If it’s better than the 1st, I may go see it.

The first AVP was utter garbage. This new one looks like the franchise will redeem itself.

I’m giddy with excitement!!! I was so hurt by AvP I.
October 26th, 2007 at 9:11 am
ugh….
horrible design….
apparently this plays off the idea (from alien3) that the xenomorph takes on some of the traits of it’s host…but this image isn’t remotely consistent with how this has been used before…
and as for the sermon on the mount about the lack of CG…whenever I hear this it sounds like the person saying it either doesn’t understand CG at all or they’re trying to be fashionable…(given the fact that they own Hydraulx, I’m guessing the latter)…it’s JUST A TOOL…used properly it works, used inappropriately it doesn’t. period. JUST like editing, JUST like music or sound or camera work…
guys running around in suits works can work well - see Alien…then read some interviews with Scott about how much they used the guy in the suit, and how he was lit…so he would look cool and not like a guy in a suit. Simply saying ‘we’re not using CG’ doesn’t mean ANYTHING, it doesn’t mean that it will be better…

First thing is first, why the @&($ would an Alien and a Predator F**K?!
October 26th, 2007 at 10:24 am
I think the thing that really ruins films from script on up is the notion of a franchise. It really seems that the American consumer just wants flash with very little substance. It’s disturbing. We’ll see about this picture.
I think the dumbest thing on the “Predalien” is the Punisher skull on it’s chest. We’ll see how that plays out and the excuse for it in the movie, I suppose.

just to be clear…
they don’t have sex…
the xenomorph takes on some characteristics of it’s host…

See, the franchises of all the movies were rated R. Then the abortion of a flick AVP came out and was PG13- No holes poked in heads or blood that wasn’t glowing. If this is rated R, which the trailers lead me to believe, we should be happy…
….AND!! After all of poor Ripley’s efforts, it looks like the Aliens made it to Earth….

There’s nothing like a good popcorn movie every now and again. Big explosions, over the top acting, faux military involvement and Giger creatures that bleed acid. I didn’t think the first one was that bad…true, I saw on DVD and didn’t pay full theater pricing (that always helps!) but it wasn’t bad. Maybe it’s just my guilty pleasure that loves watching Lance Henriksen on screen. Either way, I’m not too sure about an alien/predator hybrid. If there’s an alien/predator sex scene in this one count me out…I don’t even want to begin to think about how dangerous it would be to swap those kinds of fluids!

Can someone explain to me again why there is any excitement surrounding this project? Maybe you all saw a different version of AVP than me.
October 26th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
no, we all saw the same derivative, unimaginative, workman-like, double character killing, PC pile of shit that you did.
@Eddie - “There’s nothing like a good popcorn movie every now and again.”
this statement is why film is in the very bad state it’s in…why make Transformers a better film when /we/ will accept so little, why try really hard to build on the nearly 30 year legacy, the expanded mythmaking, the deep well of imagination of the Alien/Predator universe whe people will shell out $10 for ‘a popcorn movie’…
something I mentioned to a friend of mine the other week (I credit the booze)…
Raiders of the Lost Ark was a popcorn movie.
can you imagine?
Star Wars
Jaws
Close Encounters
The Road Warrior
these are all ‘popcorn movies’
what do we get now?…AVP…

I watched the first Predator and all the Alien movies again recently, and there really is something much scarier and more thrilling about the creatures that are human-played rather than CGI. If this quote is both accurately reported and an honest description of the movie then I think there’s reason to be genuinely excited for it. Plus, the trailer is pretty good.
October 26th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
this looks like many steps above the first AVP, and sounds much more faithful to the films of old, too.
my only concern is how much gore there was shown in the red band trailer; in the previous flicks, a lot of the really gratuitous violence was shown in a way that it wasn’t just blatant “look at all of the blood there is!”, it was presented in a visceral and truly, truly terrifying manner. the trailer came across as nothing but a few brutal displays of somebody being killed.
October 26th, 2007 at 10:26 pm
All I hope is that they don’t do some crap where the Aliens and Predators have to team up to defeat the hybrids. I was almost sick when the black chick and the Predator took down the Alien Queen in the first movie.
October 27th, 2007 at 4:53 pm
There is no doubt the first installment of this series was a complete waste of film. I hope with all my soul this next attempt does the alien and predator name some justice. I’ve been a life long fan, and was crushed after seeing AVP. After watching this new trailer I think I see a glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel.

I am stil lslightly dissapointed that they didn’t go with the “real” script, that should have been done originally(fanboys know what I’m talking about), but I am VERY excited to see this.
Part of what makes the Alien and Predator movies so scary, is that the humans never really knew what they were up against, and just the fear of the unknown is a great tool. you can’t really use that fear in these movies, as we already are very familiar with these characters. We aren’t so much afraid of what they “aren’t”, as we are afraid of what they are capable of. So this will be much more of an action movie, then a horror/suspense movie, which I am ok with.
Also, CG if done right can look really good, but the real benefit to using puppets is the reactions you get from the actors. No matter how good an avtor you are, you will be a lot more believable if there is a 9 foot alien dripping with goo on top of you, then if you are just “pretending”.

Exciting movie, But the scenes in the maternity ward were unnecesary. The theator audience was disgusted and there were no applause at the end. This movie truely was a requiem for me as I will avoid any new Aliens vs Preditor flicks in the future.

this movie is cool and the predalien awesome
