Joe Carnahan

White Jazz ScriptEarlier today we told you that Joe Carnahan was considering shooting Killing Pablo before White Jazz. He’s now asking the help of his blog readers to help him make a decision. And in an unprecedented move, he has publicly published both scripts online for you to help him make a decision.

Is he crazy? Well yes, but we already knew that. I’ve always assumed that leaking scripts onto the internet during preproduction was a very bad thing. Won’t Warner and Yari be angry that he just uploaded the script to two upcoming greenlit projects? But now that I think of it, exactly how many people are going to read these anyways? Spoilers won’t keep people from buying a ticket, because after all, they are both based on high profile books. I’m not sure if I clearly understand Joe’s motives in this move, but I’m with him 100%.

Click on the links below to read the scripts. Tell Joe what you think here.

Update: Joe was asked by his management to remove the scripts from the website.

“I’ve also taken the scripts off the site so for those of you that grabbed it beforehand, bully to you. I still might be able to put them back up in the next few days.”

That would truly be awesome... if I didn't already have both of these scripts.

In my opinion, White Jazz would have been the clear winner if George Clooney still staring, but with no Clooney, maybe Killing Pablio should just edge out WJ.
  • Wow, this is pretty awesome! I'm reading Killing Pablo right now and i really like it but i cant help myself thinking of the show Entourage and Vince & his crew when they are filming Medellin haha :D
  • Simply put, this is just one cool (although I admit, DIFFERENT) move by Joe.

Jesus if these did get made they would be long. Plus, I would love, I repeat, FUNKING LOVE, to read these and comment back but I just don't have the time now. Sigh.

I think in the coming years we're going to see a lot more of this kind of stuff. More and more artists are using their fans as collaborators and that has to be a good thing. I think this move is very smart aside from that fact. It shows that he is not only proud of both scripts, but that he trusts his audience. You would never see Speilberg or Bay do anything like that, because well, they're always worried about the bottom line and often produce movies whose scripts are mediocre at best. This shows he has nothing to hide, and is concerned only about making the best movie possible. Kudos to him.

I heard Carnahan casted Ramirez instead of Bardem for the role of Escobar. Big mistake!
