Two new I Am Legend movie trailers are now online. First up is an international trailer. The new look is less mysterious, and more forthcoming. I liked it a little better the other way when less was more (check out that teaser trailer here).
The official domesticc trailer makes I Am Legend look a lot more like a kick ass sci-fi movie. I prefer the new US trailer, and I think you might as well. It’s more action packed and sharply edited to Clint Mansell’s awesome score from The Fountain. I’m probably more excited for this film, than any movie coming out in the rest of 2007 (that I haven’t yet seen).

Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Problem with this is that two already very similar movies have come out this year: 28 Weeks Later and The Invasion (humanity disappearing/changing + guy with immune blood). it still looks good, but I wonder if it will be a success.

This movie was actually made with good ole’ Chuck Heston back in the 70s.
It is a book, very good book too, and the Chuck Heston movie was not bad either.
I look forward to seeing this when it comes out.

This new trailer gives the impression that I Am Legend is closer to the orginal version of “The Last Man On Earth” than expected.
I really think that this movie is going to be good. :)

It isn’t SUPPOSED to be close to “The Last Man ON Earth”. “I Am Legend” is an incredible book, and a touchstone of the horror genre, heavily influencing every major horror writer in the last 30 years.

I’m not sure why you seem upset that someone suggested that this is close to “The Last Man on Earth” since that movie was the first film adaptation of the book “I Am Legend”. All that was suggested is that this adaptation is looking like a modernized version of a previous adaptation, both of which are loosely based on the book.

As a reader of the book, how close the script sticks to the book, this could easily end up being Castaway with vampires. Sub in the dog for the volleyball and vampires for coconuts, add in a little running around for good measure and you’ve got the only man on Earth instead of the only man on the island.
Excellent story, doesn’t translate well into film, however.

To answer your question and not “spoil” anything for others, you really need to read the book. It’s just over 100 pages and can be read in a day. I’m not a sci-fi, much less a vampire movie person, but this book was recommended to me several times. GREAT book because it was smartly written. You understand the title of the book (I Am Legend) and what it means at the end.

Yes there have been alot of movies with a similar theme already but they are not on the budget scale of this film and they are all based on the book that this film is tho this film shares its title and will be probably be the most faithful to it.
The most notable previous versions are The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price and The Omega Man with Charlton Heston.
It makes me want to read the book now, my question is is the Will Smith character immune because he injected himself with an experimental antidote? And was he involved in the creation of the virus? And does it affect humans only or other animals?
And I think if this outbreak happens $6 gas (which will probably be closer to $9) will be the least of your worries!

Um…. in a sense they are vampires…. the girl is human, and she does betray will for the “vampires” to give her back her brother… the “vampires” live so long because they sustain off a “human farm”, caught immune humans and keep them in a drug induced state, and feed off their blood.

Well I havent read the book yet, but now I plan to…. But I’m sure it will be as good if not better than the previous two film versions the first with Vincent Price and the last one with Charlton Heston in the Omega Man, there is even a low budget ripoff called I am Omega that Netflix is sending me to check out….
I dont know if he does or does not die in the book but based on the two films mentioned above …..(spoiler here so look away if you must ) the ending isnt going to be very cheery and mankind is finished….
I just wonder if it will turn out Wills character was involved or responsible for the creation of the Virus as indicated by the Heston film? I think it would have a stronger message if he was the creator of it as well as the only one to take the antidote…
They also seem to indicate that animals too can become infected with the mutant dog scenes, maybe he had time to inject his dog and himself with the antidote but left the human race to perish!

AL Camo, Thank you for being frank and admitting your prejudice of Will Smith’s race and his rise to fame. Hopefully now you are realize how ridiculous taking that position in life is. This way of thinking can set you back in a world that is ever moving forward. I hope that you did not have these feelings about all People of Color and don’t currently have any prejudices. I hope you keep an open mind about the people you share a world and future with.
I am a longtime (C.H.) Omega Man fan and though I have not read the book everyone has mentioned and will likely not do so before seeing the film, I immediately got the Omega Man vibe after seeing I am Legend previews. I prefer not to go out and read a book before seeing a new movie as I don’t want to develop any preconceived notions after reading the book which will jade my view of the movie. Often times writers use a book simply as a concept or an idea. They develop a screenplay which may not follow the book from beginning to end or include all of the characters, scenes, etc. I think you are setting yourself up for a let down if you compare a movie side by side with a book. Just enjoy the movie for what it is, on it’s own merits.

Actually there are many very likely Doomsday scenarios oddly coinciding with 2012 Any one or a combination could happen
1. Nuclear War
2. Eruption of supervalcano at Yellowstone.
3. Large ice shelfs braking off causing worldwide tsunamis due to global warming and sea level suddenly rising
4. Asteroid or Comet collision
5. Artifical Inteligent life forms taking over
6. Resources like oil run out causing world war see 1 above
7. Gamma ray Burst from deep space
8. This is the most likely as on the date in december 2012 mentioned by the mayans there is to be a galactic alignment with our solar system when this has happend in the past the magnetic poles have flipped and when they do the earths magnetic shield shuts down for a period of time allowing cosmic radiation to flood in and in the past causing mass extinctions of up to 95% of all life including oceans….

Since this is hyping down abit..I know we all will comment after the film.
Did anyone catch a preview of AVP R ….Apparently the alien/ preadator war comes to Colorado.
And the Hybrid half breed (from AVP the errupting alien at the end of the movie out of the Predators chest) is amoung the Aliens. Multiple aliens one hybrid and only One predator to fight them. Along with the towns people of colorado. Just an FYI couldn’t get much info on it yet.

I’d rather see him then Patric Dempsy. Smith portrays real emotion in his characters. Is very physical and retains an intelligent presence. All reasons why he was cast.
You noticed he trimed down. a hulking survivor wouldn’t make sense….he’s need to be fast, agile and

There are alot of “if’s” but..
If the poles flip as they have before during this alignment…
If that causes the electromagnetic field of the earth to collapse while it realigns…
If this loss of the EM field lasts long enough…
Then what happens is that all the solar and cosmic radiation gets in to the earth’s surface and wherever the sun shines will be irradiated…

However there are all those other possible disasters too to think about and then what if we get hit with more than one or even all of them?

Kenn Brown asked about a carrier in NY - The one in the trailer seems to be the USS Intrepid. It’s an Air & Space museum now, amazing and worth a trip. It is being restored right now, but it will be back in Manhattan in September of next year.

I read the script for the 1997 version of this film and that script was incredible but because of budget issues never made. What I learned about this film was that it’s based on the second film “The Omega Man.†Mostly because of budget issues crept in so it was the cheapest way to go. Though I thought the 1997 script was a knockout.
“I Am Legend†is a classic of this genre… The first story ever that gives scientific reasoning for the vampire’s aversion to garlic and holy symbols etc.
The book is freakin awesome and is a great read and Robert Neville doesn’t quite die at the end… It’s best to read the book because once you do then you’ll understand the reason for the title. That in its one right freaked me out at the end.
By the way… Richard Matheson is still alive and supposed helped out writing parts of this movie.

About the magnetic poles flipping - This would most likely take a hundred years or so to happen. It happens every 11 years in the sun, but that’s because of its size and rotational velocity. The earth’s core is much smaller and slower.

If you watch the U.S. Trailer he yells “No, NO!” And looks like he’s pointing at the Dogs Death but if you go to Yahoo and watch the clip “Snared” you’ll see that he is pointing to what seems to be a dead guy.

Alien vs Predator Requiem starts 12/25
You all are sci fi buffs…..these are 2 of the best ever movie MONSTERS so to speak.
I here it will be a gorey shoot em up movie with amazing special effects…
I am legend is gonna be at least a 3.5 to 4 out of 5 movie i’m sure.
As an older guy 43….the Alien Predator thing should be a good fun movie.
I’m tired of seeing movies where Humans are torturing or hacking away…..theser creatures just want to survive and flourish on our beautiful planet.
Problem i noticed is the hybrid Alien has a predator plasma blaster on its shoulder…suggesting the Aliens take not only the DNA of the host but perhaps its abilities to work with the hosts equipment.
remeber in ALiens when the aliens cut the power.. and Hicks says ” there just animals how could they know to cut the power.”
I think we should winding down on this movie…

Ok heres my review:
Will Smith gives a great performance, the cinematography is great.
Now for the not so good news:
If you are looking for an action film this is not it, there is some action but not alot, if you are looking for a message movie, this isnt really it either.
The film diverges from the book and previous films, theres nothing wrong with changing a story but when you do YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE STORY STILL MAKES SENSE.
The problems:
1. It is indicated that Will Smiths character is an army colonel surgeon and that he was working on a cure he is even on the cover of Time magazine during the initial crisis, ok, he is the “only” immune person out of billions, BUT WHY? This is never explained at all, if they intend that he had a natural immunity then there is NOW WAY that he the one doctor in charge of finding a cure would be the one immune that is ludicrous! This was explained way better in the charlton heston version the Omega Man, he had found what he thought was the cure but it was untested then all hell broke loose and he had to inject himself or die and he was lucky it worked this explained how the one doctor who was expected to find a cure was immune, now maybe this was written this way in I am Legend and a part was edited out I dont know but Akiva Goldman was a writer and He SUCKS he ruined the Lost in Space movie too.
So him being immune is a Major flaw….
2. Ok if he was immune why didnt he try to use his own blood to find the cure for others??? in the Omega Man he did!
3. He finds a possible cure in the film that sort of works on rats but not on humans till he later figures out he has to chill them with ice during the treatment. Why then when his beloved dog gets infected doesnt he try the cure he is workng on on the darn dog???!!!! If it worked on rats it might work on dogs?! and anyways it would be better than doing nothing if it didnt work and the dog died then what is there to loose?? and no he didnt inject the dog he was taking a blood sample which also was dumb as he found out she was infected before a test could even be performed.
4. The creatures that humans turned into didnt work at all! they looked like the fake cgi they were and they were never fully explained where as in the book it was very clear.
In the book the people infected turned into “vampires’ for lack of a better name, this meant they went into comas during the day and were only active at night and they needed blood instead of food to survive BUT were nonetheless still human they could think, act and remember like they did before, then there were the infected ones that were the “undead” or zombie vampires, these were ones that died or were already dead when the infection spread, basically a living vampire version was “killed” it came back as a undead zombie vampire that sitll had some memories and could still talk and act in a limited way.
THIS WAS WAY COOLER THAN IN THIS NEW MOVIE
The death of his family as tragic as it was in Legend it was way more devastating in the book, in the book when his little girl dies he has to personally throw her little body onto a huge communal funeral pyre, when his wife dies he can forgo the tragedy of the pyre and decides to bury her himself not know what will happen at this point, she arises and digs her way out of the ground and as one of the undead zombie vampires returns home like a lost pet and is calling his name knocking on the door to get back into the house!! how horrifying is that?!
this version was in the Vincent Price film the Last Man on Earth which although a very dated b/w film is has the much superior and more accurate to the book script.
Ok the whole NEW ending which puts a positive ending to the story which neither the book or previous movies had I found to just be a cop out and felt slapped onto the end because they might have felt a depressing ending to be too down for the holidays?!
What the book was really about and how it ended was very different and much much better, in the book at the end Neville realizes that the human race has now mutated into this new living and unliving vampire species they still function but as an entirely new society and that he is the “dinosaur” the throwback the neanderthal and that he is the enemy the monster going around killing the family members of the new human/vampire race and realizes that the real cure is to kill himself and let this new race of human/vampires live on and create their new civilization hence the name “I am Legend” he really is the last of the to become legendary old human race.

Oh and I found the religious message at the end very out of place and preachy also it was very laughable, you can hear “God” talking now that its “quieter” so it takes the death of billions the whole human race till only one man and one woman are left to be able to hear god speaking??!! if thats what it takes FORGET IT!! its not worth it!! Lame script writing but great book……….

I really enjoyed the book, and I hope to enjoy the movie also. I just wish that things could stay closer to the original. This isn’t the first or last movie that usually strays way, way too far away from a well written story -sigh- but I’ll watch it anyway because it looks decent.

The book came out in the fifties, so most people haven’t really heard of it unless they are into the genre. The whole ‘human race has evolved so you’re just a legend’ theme doesn’t even come into play in the movie until the (probably hastily written) last monologue. My question is this: why the heck did they even keep the title?

Being opposed to getting into any scuffle over the internet with someone who has any outlook or theory on life against my own, I’ll just explain what I liked and disliked about both the book and the movie.
The book: Recommend in all aspects, go buy it now.
The movie: I don’t compare it to the book, I liked them both greatly. To make a successful movie you can’t copy the book directly, it would actually be sort of bland for the majority of viewing (not including myself). Another problem I had was with everything they were trying to cram into about 2 hours.. Great movie, I’ve seen it twice so far, but I would adored it if it had been a 3-4 hour movie focusing heavily on him surviving.
As always, Will Smith has delivered acting excellence, and this is a movie worth watching again and again.

I think not knowing the originals makes it a better movie, more appealing.
Will Smith….you’ve come a long way.
As i predicted i gave it a 4 out 5. The CGI creatures
were abit b movie.
Seriously….in todays actors who could have done a better job.??? Jackman, Bana, Pitt.

This seems like it is going to be a great movie. Reasons: well first of all will smith is a great actor and has more than one outstanding and very popular movies. Secondly, the movie has a book to go off of…in most cases the movie isn’t as good as the book but i expect that this movie will be just as good…all you can do is go and watch the movie

i absulutely love this movie it had me screaming all the way in the suspence moments… but what i dont understand is where are the rest of the people on the world?? and was the girl that he captures the girlfriend of the other guy that keept attacking him? how come they never knew where he was hidding?? and when is this movie comming out?

I’ve been wanting to see this movie, but don’t watch movies that use the Lord’s Name in vain …. I hate to pay for a theatre ticket if they do curse using the Lord’s name because I will have to leave. Does anyone know if this movie contains this? PG-13 doesn’t help … lots of movies are rated PG-13 and still curse using the Lord’s name. Thanks …..

Hey just curious if anyone noticed that in the U.S version of the trailer that towards the end of it there is a scene where Will Smiths character is in the same room with all the Vamps/mutants. And one begins to yell in his ear……..Seems as though it was cut from the movie, wonder why?
