Angelina Jolie shows off Side-Boobage on Beowulf Billboard

In the past, I have railed against the MPAA for their over-regulation of movie advertising, especially when it comes to red-band trailers (don’t get me started). I live in San Francisco, and am not conservative by any stretch of the imagination  But I really have to wonder how a billboard for the upcoming PG-13 rated Beowulf could feature Angelina Jolie’s side-boobage.

Sure, it’s not really Jolie, it is a computer animated performance capture version of her, but does that really matter? Many others have wondered how such a violent film could have earned a PG-13 rating in the first place. And everyone has seen the sequence where Angelina Jolie appears on screen virtually naked (sure, mud substance cover the nipples but for all purposes, she is nude).

But it is one thing to have a near-nude sequence in a PG-13 film, but is it okay to advertise it on a billboard?

  • Sounds pretty conservative to me - how many perfume ads ect do you see with the exact same amount of flesh?!

    Well in the US, apparently a little nudity and sexuality is far worse then brutal killing and gore. I mean Halloween wasn't restircted yet it had some pretty brutal killing. Meanwhile a stupid sex comedy like Good Luck Chuck is restricted because it has some sexual content? I think things are backwards here.

    American society is based upon Christian values, which is fact, not some slam against Christianity. Christianity itself is founded upon the violent death of J.C., but within the bible's teachings (or, at least, how it has been dissected over the past hundreds of years), people are expected to be abstinent until marriage, and then remain faithful to that spouse. this must have some reflection on the MPAA's values in terms of what to rate a film.

    that, and their personal lives. anyone seen the film "This Film Is Not Yet Rated"? good stuff.

    There are a lot of countries that are based on Christian values but don't rate the same way.

    basically they are trying to "flesh out" the film's only attraction. . . .

    a friend on mine who worked on the film said there might be 3 versions (PG-13, R, NC-17)

    As an european I can only laugh at this.
    We have naked boobs in regular TV ads running in the afternoon.
    What BAD does it do again to let kids see Angelie Jolie like that?

    well i agree with you. it seems that everything now is based on sex and nudity when it comes to advertising . I just want to enjoy a decent movie with my friends but i cant. i am totally disgusted at society and their acceptance to cheap movie scenes and adverstisment.
  • i think that shouldn't be an issue if u wanna be naked in a movie..afterall we were all born naked..

    much ado about nothing. I dont think the profile of Angelina's bosom is remotely offensive. Her bosom is dicreetly covered so what is the problem and she happens to have large breasts anyway. I find biilboard adverts for cigarettes, alchohol, casinos more of an issue as they are a permanent part of the highway landscape.
