This is the man who did the ballsiest and best Star Wars film of them all, Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. This is going to be awesome like that film.

Mel, man, relax and let yourself be at least a little excited. Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade are both tonally worlds apart from Raiders, for one thing, and there was more than just clever banter between father and son that separated the first and last.

I feel that Lucas can be trusted in at least this regard, since he has very little to do with the film, so far as I can tell. It’s been a long time coming, and I guarantee Spielberg wouldn’t direct another Indiana Jones film this late after the last he did if he didn’t have faith in it.

So Lucas is promising us that “Crystal Skulls” will be as “Good” as “Raiders of the Lost Ark?” Surely, he can’t be serious. Neither sequel came even close to matching Raiders, as perfect an action/adventure film as you’ll find anywhere. At least “Las Crusade” had clever banter between Indy and his father. Without that, it would have been just a retread of “Raiders.”

Either way, should we trust anything Lucas says these days? After all, he’s the man who wrote and directed the execrable SW prequels. Sorry, George, but this moviegoer is taking anything and everything you say with a grain of salt (as should everyone who reads this thread).

Ugh! I can’t believe you liked Last Crusade better than Temple of Doom — granted, neither of them were as good as Raiders. However, I feel that Last Crusade gets too corny in its humor, and totally wastes the use of John Rhys Davies. But Last Crusade’s biggest fault is in changing the nature of the Marcus Brody character. In Raiders he is a serious-minded contemporary of Indy’s. In fact, Marcus states that if he were five years younger he would have gone after the Ark himself. Flash-forward to Last Crusade and we are given a bumbling, idiot Marcus Brody who can’t speak a foreign language and got “lost in his own museum.” I was saddened by the way they reduced him to a comical side-kick. Enough ranting, I hope Crystal Skulls is awesome. I know I’ll be first in line!
