Tin Man

A trailer/advertisement for the Sci-Fi Channel mini-series Tin Man is now online. The story is a based on Lyman Frank Baum’s classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

A fierce tornado rips DG (a re-imagined Dorothy Gale), a rebellious young waitress from Omaha, and deposits her with a shocking bump on “the other side.” The once-beautiful “Outer Zone” (Oz) has been zapped into a frigid and decaying wasteland.

Aided by her Longcoat storm troopers and winged Mobat (monkey-bat) spies, Sorceress Azkadellia (The Wicked Witch of the West) has seixed power from her own mother, as part of a nefarious plot-to suck the souls out of her minions and harness the energy to jump the gap between her world and the “other side”-a place called Earth. And of course, DG is the only person who can halt Azkadellia’s twisted master plan.

The special effects, in true miniseries fashion, aren’t good enough for prime time. But the film has a great all-star cast (Zooey Deschanel, Alan Cumming, Richard Dreyfuss), and features an interesting and unique take on a classic story. I’m a sucker for anything featuring Deschanel, and Tin Man looks strange but interesting. Check out the advertisement after the jump.

Tin Man will premiere on the Sci-Fi Channel in December 2007.

Well I finished seeing the whole thing yesterday and although it certainly does not rank as the top miniseries made by the Scifi channel is by no means or any stretch of the imagination a train wreck either. It’s is a mildly entertaining fantasy romp. Now there are things that need to be cleaed and is that DG in the end turns out to be a decendant of the actual Dorothy Gale. This is how the producers imagined how OZ (The O.Z) would look like 500 years into that fantasyland’s future (Yes in OZ is 500 years or so after Dorothy Gail first came visiting). Azkadellia the villaines in this miniseries who turns out to be DG’s sister also turns out that she ended up possesed by the spirit of none other than the evil witch that was killed by Dorothy Gale 500 years ago in the Tin Man story!

So again I’d say it was pretty entertaining, some things here and there could have been done better but it does deliver what it set out to do. Now I’ve read a lot of reviews and it doesn’t look like those people really saw the whole thing to make a judgement and that’regrettable! Because no one can make an honest judgment on a story, book etc if you have only seen it partially.

    Hope this helps…
