Escape from Brett RatnerAintItCool is reporting a rumor that Brett Ratner might be replacing Len Wiseman to direct New Line’s big screen remake of Escape From New York. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a huge fan of Wiseman (Underworld), but no one can argue that he knows how direct action and has a great sense of production design (something that could have benefited this remake).

IESB is confirming the story is fact, which is really unfortunate. They are also reporting that Wiseman is also off of the Gears of War video game to movie adaptation, and that the film might not get made due to budget concerns (I’m sure this story will be developing quickly).

And everyone knows what I think of Ratner, which is very little. Brett Ratner is not even an okay choice for the Escape from New York remake, he is a absolute WRONG choice. Heck, even Jackie Chan was disappointed with Rush Hour 3. And that was just a crappy action movie sequel, this is Escape from New York! New Line, please say it isn’t so!

Well, first I'm going to give Snake an annoying sidekick so there can be a stream of non-stop comic banter between them.

Then I'll make the character of the missing President a total idiot who goes around choking on pretzles and mispronouncing the word "nuclear" so that the movie has some of my famous "political subtext."

Then I'll just blow something up every ten minutes or so until the end of the movie (which I'll go ahead change completely for no good reason whatsoever. Hmmm, maybe it'll turn out that Snake isn't really a criminal, but a good guy that has been working for the government all along!)

Wow! Remakes are so easy! Someone bring me another Hooker and some more Blow...

So Jackie Chan will be Snake Plissken and Chris Tucker will be the President?
Look I was against this remark from the start, as the first one is great... But it is one thing to kick a dead horse It is another thing to violate the dead horse by letting anyone other than Carpenter direct or write it, especially someone who has taken making sequels to uncharted crapiness.

First off, I think doing a remake of a great movie is pointless. I'm so sick of the remakes today! Kurt Russell did a great job in the original, leave it at that.

As for Brett Ratner, man, that guy just needs to find a hole in the ground, crawl in, and never show up again! Sure, Rush Hour 1 was a good film. Two, not so much. I haven't even bothered with the third one. When will Hollywood finally tell him to quit his day job and go deliver pizzas for the real directors?
