When Hollywood isn’t ruining the movies from my childhood with cheap direct-to-DVD sequels (Wargames 2?), they are trying to make a quick buck with a “branded” franchise video game (Did anyone play that Jaws video game a few years back?).
Worldwide Biggies has just announced that they are creating a video game based on the 1987 film classic The Princess Bride. A teaser version of the game will be bundled with the upcoming The Princess Bride 20th Anniversary DVD. The full game, titled “True Love and High Adventure — The Official Princess Bride Game,” will be released online in the spring. No word on how crappy it might look.

There is a toy company who also got licensed to do games for The Princess Bride, but I think the licensing letter said it was for board/card games. I hope they do something cool with it, I love this movie.

It doesn’t look crappy. In fact it looks great! Some of the original actors came back to do the voices, too…like Buttercup, Vizzini, Inigo…are all voiced by the originals. It’s like 5 different kinds of game in one, and you can play the demos at http://www.princessbridegame.com - I can understand your fear/skepticism, it’s one of my fave movies. But the game itself turned out really fun, so don’t worry.
