The Mummy 3

themummy3photo21.jpgRob Cohen has published a few new photos from the set of The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, including one of Maria Bello as the new Evelyn (yuck, where is Rachel!?).

I wrote earlier today that I actually enjoyed the first Fast and the Furious film (a comment I’m sure to get a lot of flack for), also a Cohen project. I also very much had fun in the first Mummy film, but where can this series go? It’s basically an Indiana Jones knock off with a less talented cast, crew and oh yeah, a sad supernatural Mummy character, which in the third film is played by Jet Li (yes, that Jet Li).

And Cohen’s filmography has suffered in recent years (xXx, Stealth). I keep having to remind myself that Cohen once made Dragonheart. So I don’t have much faith in The Mummy 3, but in this case I hope I’m proved wrong.

I have recently gotten the criticism that I’ve been far too negative. But the truth is I go into every screening wanting to love the movie, wanting to be surprised. And The Mummy 3 is the perfect example of this. I want it to be fun and magical, but magical and fun isn’t a realistic expectation.

Check out the new photos after the jump.

I remember a Pete who was anxiously awaiting The Rocks cameo in Mummy 2…A Pete that enjoyed the now awful CG and the Happy Happy endings…. Now we have this Slashmonster running about giving awful reviews to everything including the wonderful Good Luck Chuck…Ok, maybe that was Entertainment Weekly… but come on now!

You got criticized for being too negative? I can’t believe that. If you would have asked me I would have said quite the contrary. For example Hostel 2 was overhyped on this site and got a waaay to positive review. And what we really don’t need is overhyping certain movies. I take a review that is too harsh over one that is too smarmy any day. In the first case you can always be surprised positively, while the second case guarantees a big disappointment. The only important thing is, that you always write your honest opinion. And a review is always subjective, so please settle down everybody. Keep up the good work ;)

Peter, I agree. If this world was perfect, all Hollywood Studio made sequels would be great. It would give me all the less reasons to desperately search for independent films that have a great deal of substance.

For example, I walked into Spiderman 3 expecting magic and expecting way more for Pirates 2&3 and I was taken for granted as a paying audience member. I’m disappointed with hollywood.

i think the perfect time to stop hyping a movie is when a chinese man is playing an egyptian, especially a really famous chinese man who could be doing a way better movie, like War w/ jason statham. nevermind, i’ll see this movie. where else are you going to see brendan fraser on screen?

I miss Brendan Fraser on the big screen and I enjoyed his character in Mummy 1 (Mummy 2 was less fun, too predictable) so I’ll try Mummy 3 when released on DVD. Yep, I don’t spend my money in movie theatres on chancey films, i.e. sequels. I like Maria Bello but will she use a British accent? I mean, Evie can’t be played any other way.

i was pretty upset and disappointed that Weisz is not continuing her part in the 3rd sequel. i think i’m gonna give it a miss in the theatre.

In response to “Pete” about Jet Li playing an Egyptian..I dont actually think he’s playing an egyptian..that would be just plain retarded. He’s actually playing an Emperor from China. I liked the first Mummy and wasnt too impressed with the second, but the third looks like it should be at least entertaining if nothing else. I will miss Weisz as Evelyn, but Mariah Bello is a pretty good actress and I imagine she will do just fine.

At first, I was excited to see the Mummy 3. But, then I saw the teaser and saw that Rachel Weisz wasn’t reprising the role of Evie. That’s enough for me NOT to watch it and just wait until I can Netflix it. I associate Evie to Weisz. Maria Bello as Evie is like if Mary Steenburgen played Marian in Indiana Jones — it just isn’t the same. Tarnished, even.
