Cloverfield/1-18-08 Photo #6 Revealed

Cloverfield Photo 6

The Cloverfield/1-18-08 viral campaign started with a bang. But recently we’ve heard nothing from the JJ Abrams produced monster flick, until now. A sixth photo has now been discovered on the 1-18-08.com viral website. The photo pictures a japanese chef displaying some kind of food dish on a pan. If you play around with the photo with your mouse, you can flip it over to reveal this:

Hinoai from Unfiction took the time to translate the above, which appears to be a recipe written in Japanese:

    Everybody, thank you for viewing! I’ll introduce this week’s delicious recipe. Please make sure to keep this one cold!

* Skinless chicken breast - 2, cut in halves
* Sōmen noodles - 10 oz.
* Watercress - 1/2 cup cut into small strips
* Turnip - 1/2 cup, thinly sliced
* Shiitake Mushrooms - 1/2 cup
* Chicken stock - 1/3 cup
* Sake - 2 tbsp.
* Sugar - 1/2 tsp.
* Deep-sea crab - one

In a small saucepan, stir together 1/3 cup water, chicken stock, sake, and sugar. Chill it until it becomes cold. Grill the chicken breast on both sides for about 8 minutes, and then chill. Boil the noodles for about 3 minutes, and then run under cold water until chilled. Mix the watercress, turnips, and mushrooms into the sōmen. Slice the chicken thinly and arrange on top of the sōmen mix. Just before you serve, put the crab in the sauce and pour over the noodles generously.

Sea CrabCloverfieldClues points out that Deep-sea crab makes an appearance in the Slosho.jp history page. So what do I think this means? I really have no idea. Until now all the photos appear to have come from the events to be shown in the film. The new photo offers no timecode, and offers a character we have never seen before. I do find it interesting that aside from the Slusho t-shirt seen in the trailer, this is the first real link-up with a japanese storyline which has been hinted by the Slusho.jp viral site. Oh and yeah, Rob was going to Japan (but how vital can that be to the story, really…). But it will be interesting to see how much Slusho or Japan play into the storyline.

    I didn't realize you could do the same to the other photos. Was this feature always there from the beginning? Of course none of the intriguing pictures have notes on them.
  • Eric
    It has been there recently with the flipping and all.

    I want something important given to us!
  • Good Lord... they started the viral thing WAY to early, and now there are so few bits coming out and those that do are so obscure!

    Maybe the next clue photo could be a closeup of a pimple on one of the actor's faces so the internets could debate on the significance of it...

    Yeesh.

    Umm i left 1-18-08.com site in my backround for a while i was searching the web.. and all of sudden i get a huge roar out of no where... no joke.
  • Yeah, that's old news. They've had that on the site for quite a while now.

    Maybe it's a magic recipe that when we eat it we'll instantly have knowledge about the film. I need to go to the grocery store.
  • dave
    In the food he has theres a dragon in it.
  • Scott Perry
    Roland Emmerich's Godzilla anyone? I'm personally a little worried about the hype behind Cloverfield. The trailer shown during Transformers was clever. I like the idea of centering character's around an event using only documented consumer cameras. Great idea, but the movie will have to live up to big shoes when its released.

    Duh!! The monster is a giant mutated crab.
  • Don't forget the new viral site that popped up this weekend!

    okay, so a lot of this is stuff everybody probably knows but i'm just summarizing to make sure we have everything:

    website: www.slushzoom.com
    what we know:
    if we do ctrl+a we know there is hidden text. it states "the meek shall not inherit the earth. Did the past ever exist, if there is no proof? Knowing Art by Name is not as important as knowing art by site. All is not as it appears." what this means? who knows.
    next, the pictures. the first one is of a famous painting [which i totally forgot the name of] and its the goddess of love being born[angels breathing life into her, etc] if you click the picture it brings you to a genetics site. the next one is [i'm guess] the god of the sea. if you click it, it goes onto a poem about a colossus by Emma Lazarus. The next picture is a bathhouse sign with "closed" typed underneath. if you click it, it goes on about how its closed due to and then the text stops and there is a picture of a broken car. then underneath it says " At the end of the world, after all my efforts were wasted.
    What I would not have given for just a simple bath. PRIMA !
    Look at me, you’re going to make it through this, I’m not going to let anything happen to you. You will receive what you need." and if you highlight the whole page you will notice it says "not all things are as they appear" the next picture goes to wikipedia and talks about a bazooka. the next picture is of an asian lady holding a fan. if you click it it goes to imdb about a movie with an experimental creature getting loose from its lab. the net picture is of some sort of statue that says "1868" if you click it, the site turns into a hollywood universal studios V.I.P tour. the next picture is of the statue of liberty, if you click it it goes to a site about cooking[maybe connected to the 6th picture?] the next picture is something that i cant figure out and has no link. and finally, the slusho "cant drink just six" this goes to the slusho site which is a different subject.

    website: www.1-18-08.com
    what we know:
    the pictures flip, there are six pictures, so far. if you stay on the sit long enough there is a weird noise that sounds like a roar or metal slowly breaking. everyone has seen this, i dont really need to go over it.

    website:www.slusho.jp
    slusho! you cant drink just six! what does that mean?! the two main parts on the site that i think are most important is the game part and the history. the history is hard to summarize but basically it has to deal with when you drink the slusho you turn into something described as a whale. i could be wrong, but thats what i got from it.

    the poster:
    the creature obviously came from the sea. it shows the statue of liberty with her head cut of then a dark path of water following the NYC. where is the head? why its in the movie trailer!

    Okay, I know that I might be wrong here, but I think that your recipe has been misinterpreted.

    The last ingredient, the crab, has also been interpreted to mean "deep sea ___" like, a special ingredient. If so, that would give you a direct link to slusho and to tagruato, the newest viral site, both of which concern deep sea drilling for ingredients and other products. Also, if you look to www.jamieandteddy.com, click on the bear, and then enter "jllovesth" into the login, you watch a movie where Jamie Lescano (sp?), a character from the movie, talks to her boyfriend via web mail. However, at the end she complains of a bladder problem---could it be caused by slusho? If so, there is a significant link. It just all goes back to the crab vs other debate.

    Sorry that I couldnt remember what the word was; either way, we all know how important slusho has to be to this project.

    just a quick observation that guy in the chef outfit is the same guy in the original teaser trailer who asks [what are you gonna do with out rob man, i mean hes like ur main dude;;;] yep its him just thought id pass it on.
  • prnstrntrng
    if you go to the tagruato site...it has been changed......the drawings of the four animals have writing in them the crab has "tanner" there is a variety of crab called the tanner crab....the octopus has dumbo....htere is a dumbo octopus.....the fish say ogre.....there is an ogre fish also known as the fang fish.....the jellyfish looks like it has RUKANDU i have no ideas about the significane of those letters....any ideas?
  • davidpw
    With all the sea animals being focused on and the goverment being involved , i have a feeling that somehow a govt experiment went out of control . dna gene splicing stuff.
  • nickadam
    well, to me it seems pretty obvious.
    But here's something else. I haven't tried it yet, too lazy. But on the Tagruato.jp site, read the satellite part first, then the next one up. It's an Update on their Chaui Station. At the bottom of the section, there's a phone number they say to call. I figure what it says is common knowledge, but if not, give it a try.
