It seems like the report from last week might be true after all. Rumor had it that Corey Haim might not be able to film his scenes in The Lost Boys 2 DVD sequel due to visa issues. Now Warner Bros has released the official press release announcing the project, and Corey Haim is not even mentioned.
If I was Warner Bros, I would rewrite a scene or two in the script that could be shot in an interior set in the United States just so Haim makes an appearance. It seems like the couple hundred thousand to make that possible will make it worth it for long time fans of the original film. Check out the full press release, which includes full cast information, plot details and more, after the jump.
Warner Premiere’s “Lost Boys 2: The Tribe” is in Production
Frog Brothers Reprise Original Roles Under the Direction of P.J. Pesce
BURBANK, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Corey Feldman returns to familiar turf in the Warner Premiere event, “Lost Boys 2: The Tribe,” the direct-to-DVD sequel to the 1987 cult hit “The Lost Boys” that also features his fellow Frog Brother, Jamison Newlander, along with Tad Hilgenbrink, Autumn Reeser and Angus Sutherland. The announcement was made today by Diane Nelson, President, Warner Premiere.
Principal photography began in late August on location in Vancouver, under the direction of P.J. Pesce. This sequel takes us to the shady surf city of Luna Bay, California, where vampires quickly dispatch anyone who crosses their path. Into this dark world arrive Chris Emerson (Hilgenbrink) and his younger sister, Nicole (Reeser). Having just lost their parents in a car accident, the siblings move in with their eccentric Aunt Jillian and become new prey for the locals’ way of life. When Nicole unwittingly falls for a local vampire, Chris must locate and destroy the gang’s lifeline before his sister’s transformation is complete; to do this Chris finds himself relying on the expertise of none other than Edgar Frog (Feldman). Subtle references to characters from the original film, and cameos from returning actors offer homage to the Lost Boys legend and set a sinister tone of impending doom.
“Last year when Warner Premiere was established, we knew we wanted to engage with fans of The LOST BOYS and have this title on our slate because the original is a favorite film of so many people,” said Nelson. “With Hans Rodionoff’s strong script, and PJ onboard to direct, we were able to realize this project quickly, casting up-and-coming talent like Autumn, Tad and Angus, as well as key players from the original with Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander returning as the infamous Frog Brothers. We have tremendous respect for Joel Schumacher’s original film and are striving to maintain the tone and integrity of the original, while offering something fresh to old and new fans alike.”
Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander are set to reprise their original roles of Edgar and Alan Frog, respectively, in the vampire-centric sequel. Feldman shot to fame in the mid 1980’s starring in a number of successful films like “The Goonies,” “Stand By Me,” “License To Drive,” and two chapters of the “Friday the 13th” series. Following the success of “The Lost Boys,” Feldman also had a successful run with several television and music projects. Currently, Feldman is headlining a reality series on A&E called “The Two Coreys.”
“I am truly excited to be on board for this sequel,” says Feldman. “After reading the latest script I genuinely believe we can deliver a sequel the fans can sink their teeth into. I also commend Warner Premiere on their choice to include Jamison Newlander. Edgar Frog has been laying in wait for 20 years to stake some more vampires and that is exactly what he intends to do with his brother Alan by his side.”
Jamison Newlander is back as Alan Frog, the other half of the vampire-slaying Frog brothers, in the sequel. Newlander most recently wrote, directed, starred in and produced a comedy short called “The Rooster.”
Autumn Reeser stars as Nicole, a teenager who moves to Northern California and finds herself entangled with a gang of vampires. Reeser most recently starred on Fox’s hit teen drama “The O.C.” Her additional television credits include “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Cold Case,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Grounded for Life” and “George Lopez.” Reeser also appeared in “The Girl Next Door,” opposite Elisha Cuthbert and Emilie Hirsch.
Tad Hilgenbrink portrays Nicole’s brother, Chris, who – along with his sister – falls in with the dangerous gang of vampires. Hilgenbrink is best known for his role as Matt Stifler in “American Pie Presents: Band Camp.” He will next be seen in the horror film “30 Days of Night.”
Angus Sutherland, half-brother of “Lost Boys” star Kiefer Sutherland, stars as the leader of the gang of surfing vampires, echoing Kiefer’s ‘David’ from the original film. Sutherland appeared on the CBS political drama “Commander in Chief” and will next be seen in “Familiar Strangers,” due out later this year.
Screenwriter Hans Rodionoff is no stranger to the vampire genre, as writer and director of 1998’s “Sucker: The Vampire.” Other credits include co-writing TV’s “Saint Sinner,” based on a story by Clive Barker, and shared writing credits with director Mort Nathan on “National Lampoon’s Bag Boy,” slated for release in 2007.
P.J. Pesce is an independent filmmaker who has earned several accolades for his work through the festival circuit. In 1994, Pesce was named Best Independent Director of the Year at the Hamptons International Film Festival for his critically acclaimed film “The Desperate Trail,” which he wrote and directed. He also received a Special Grand Jury Award for his short film “The Afterlife of Grandpa” at the Houston International Film Festival in 1989. Pesce is the recipient of Grey Advertising’s Student Filmmaker Award and a Presidential Fellowship from Columbia University’s School of the Arts.
Basil Iwanyk and Phil Goldfine are producing the film, with Mary Viola, Alison Semenza and Rick Benattar serving as executive producers.
“Lost Boys 2: The Tribe” is a Warner Premiere production, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and distributed by Warner Home Entertainment.

I agree with what Peter Sciretta suggested in his article, that they should shoot some scenes in an interior set with Corey Haim. It just would not be the same without both Coreys in the movie. I hope they don’t dissapoint all of us Lost Boys fans who were looking forward to seeing the film with Corey Haim in it as well.

This film has to have certain things to work otherwise there’s no point. You must have Corey haim and Corey feldman, especially after the release of ‘The two Corey’s’ Tv series, i mean without them both it would be like cheating the audiences with build-up to nothing. 2) The film needs subtle light touches with a blend of suggestive scary moments 3) you’ve got to have the mysterious attractive girl 4) it needs the asphetic style in the set and costume design that made the 1987 original so good on the eye 4) a quality pop/ rock soundtrack is essential.
You get all that and the film will seem justified, Get COREY HAIM!!!

It is so not right to have a sequel of this great movie without at least a cameo of the original cast members of corey and corey. It definately would draw more people to watch it if it included them both in it……..then trying to rehash an old movie with a whole new cast.

I don’t understand the films being shot in Canada right? Haim is a Canadian. Why would he not be allowed to shoot?

“Lost Boys” has a personality that could’ve only been created by those actors, that director, and DOP. To not use the same principle actors cheapens a movie that is an emblem of many people’s childhood memories. “The Godfather” sequels were kept intact because Coppola directed them all. Much is lost when the director and actors are changed (example: Terminator3). With such a character- and actor-driven cult film, don’t ruin it with hollywood beureaucracy and business marketing formulas. If the authenticity of the original is maintained, the sequel would be just as good and successful (examples: Chronicles of Riddick, Blade2).

I was wondering the same thing Ricci…..strange……I wonder if that is the true reason or if it’s a cover up for something more serious and more personal. The last episode of the Two Corey’s didn’t show them on the best of terms…..to say the least. Warner Bros. and whomever is casting the film is going to lose a significant draw due to NO COREY HAIM. Hopefully, it was a mutual decision - as in the Two Corey’s episodes, they were not even going to tell Haim about it - apparently - as we were led to believe.
I don’t know who reads these blogs but The Two Corey’s is a brand. You can’t cut one loose and expect to sell. I’m a fan of both (not one more than the other). Professional and personal lives should be separated for the sake of everyone involved. This is a small cult flick and anyone who is going to rent it will most likely know something about Feldman’s and Haim’s past. It now seems that Haim was not included; For reasons I can only speculate.
I will say that if Haim was not given a fair chance and was somehow prematurely judged, I think that is unfair. However, if there was disruption and dysfunction beyond repair, then so be it.

I just watched Lost Boys 2, and that was one of the worst movies I have ever watched. That head vampire Shane (I think that was his name) was the worst actor to ever be in a movie. It had little parts in the movie that were supposed to be funny, but it was just stupid. And Corey Feldman just wasn’t the same without Corey Haim. I think Corey Haim should be glad he wasn’t apart of this piece of shit movie.

I just watched The Lost Boys 2-The Tribe last night and I was extremely disapointed! The original Lost Boys is my favourite movie of all time and my sister and I know every line. I have been waiting 21 years for a sequel and I found that it was half-ass! Where are all the cameos that I’ve heard about? I think that it is UNACCEPTABLE that Corey Haim was not in the movie. Film his parts in the USA! Then again, for the alternate ending, it seemed like Haim didn’t practice his lines very well…is this because he was angry that the the film makers couldn’t put more of an effort to make him part of the movie. OR did the film makers see how Haim wasn’t putting in his 100% and didn’t consider him worth the hasel? It would have been really cool to see cameos of Jamie Gertz and Jason Patric as the parents of Chris and Nicole either before the car accident or as memories. I thought Lanny(the vampire in the first film) would be in it. I found the rock song they played in the place of “Lost In The Shadows” wasn’t a great song. Why was Allan Frog only in an alternate ending? I think alot of the story could have been elaborated on. I almost feel that they were in a rush to finish filming. A sequel should continue the story but there were many things missing. There was so much hype about The Lost Boys 2 that is it like it was just made to get it over with. On a better note, I thought that all the new actors were brilliant! I was ify when I found out that Autume Reeser was going to play a vampire (because it is very different than the hyper, annoying girl she played on the O.C.) but I think she did a great job! It was probably smart to cast her since this will draw O.C. fans. Angus was great-he difinately did his homework and studied Keifer’s role as David. I loved that many of the scenes were mirrored and updated from the original movie. Some of the lines were exactly the same and my sister and I said the out loud as we watched. I just think the movie lacked the build up of the characters. Nicole turned into a vampire too soon in the film.
