The long rumored Goonies sequel might seem improbable at this point, but that doesn’t mean that the series won’t continue. Remember, Goonies Never Say Die.
“I would like to say that there’s a great writer on it and it’s coming soon [but] I have nothing for you,” Goonies star Corey Feldman told MTV. “It’s a film Spielberg very badly wanted to make [and] Richard Donner very badly wanted to make. All of us [the cast] really, really wanted to do it. It’s come to the point of the script got ordered, and then the ball got dropped. For whatever reason, Warner Bros. doesn’t see it as a profitable venture. It’s a very sad, unfortunate story. But they just decided to make ‘Lost Boys 2′ after 20 years. Anything’s possible!”
“Right now they are talking about the idea of doing it as an animated series,” Feldman revealed, without offering more details. Corey also spoke highly of one of the last Goonie 2 script attempts:
“The one that I heard that worked the best was all of us were now grown up, and have [our own] kids. And those kids get into some trouble and end up stumbling across some link to our past. They discover who we really are and what we went through. And, simultaneously, the Fratelli brothers find out that the kids have found out – so they’re out to get the kids and the kids are out to save their lives and their families.”
Corey also revealed that in one script he was a Vegas lounge singer, and in another, a trial lawyer.
The Goonies is one of those movies from my childhood that I hold very close to my heart. And usually with such movies, I find myself feeling uneasy when the idea of a proposed sequel comes up. I man, most sequels are usually not as good. And who wants your childhood memories ruined by a bad attempt to claim more money from a long lost franchise. But for some reason I think there could be a good idea for a Goonies sequel. And I believe that a new Goonies movie could live on for a whole new generation. May-be I’m just being overly optimistic (which is out of character for me), but I’d like to see the idea explored more. As for a cartoon, in concept maybe it would be fun, but what audience would they target the project towards? It seems very speculative to me.
Would you watch an animated Goonies tv show or sequel?

Goonies cartoon? What’s the point? One must ask, is there even an audience interested in this any more. What about making Ghostbusters III, Top Gun 2, Gremlins 3, Caddyshack III, or even another Little Shop of Horrors? Sometimes you just have to let it go.

An animated Ghostbusters 3??!! That is just awful. I’d rather see a remake.

Yeah i think a sequel would be great, especially with the kids-as-parents idea. But for me, an animated series would kill it.

I think that an animated Goonies cartoon would be awful & ruin the original. I think that the only way that one could properly make a Goonies sequel is if it were all of the original stars playing their characters all grown up. Forget their kids, who cares about them.

An animated GOONIES sequel is a terrible idea across the board. From a business standpoint why go there when you have a film that has such important meaning to so many of today’s parents? Instead of only one parent taking the kids to an animated sequel, a live action with the whole cast (the still living ones) would most likely bring both parents. You can work in them having kids and make it attractive to children, but the crux of the story would have to be about them, as adults coming back together to take part in another adventure. Typically you wouldn’t even really need their grown up character’s kids to have a huge role. Maybe a sub-plot with them all at home trying to figure out or help the situation just to keep kids involved. But the primary focus should be with the originals. If the studios did that, hopefully slaying the marketing departments before they can wreck it with their money grubbing, plot destroying Happy Meal Tie Ins, they’d have something awesome. Please don’t trash this one. It means too much to people.

The Goonies, by far, is the greatest movie I have ever had the pleasure to experience. It’s greatness came from the real world adventure in a possible realm that exists for the dreamer in all of us. Everytime I see one eyed Willie’s pirate ship I feel one of the warmest kinds of excitement known. It gives hope that even a child with pure motives can prevail over the hardships and savageness of ruthless capitalists. Please hear my cry, don’t make the mistake of taking this movie to the animated world!!!

A Goonies sequel would be interesting, but making it animated would ruin it… The original stands well on it’s own, it doesn’t NEED a sequel. Especially not an animated one.
