Think about it... I'm no one important, but I had my theories prior to reading about a "funeral scene." She's bound to die rather sooner than later. Bruce Wayne can't be with one woman forever. In addition to that, my theory is the Joker (aka THE FREAKING MAN) is going to murder her only to test batman's will and devotion toward his "fighting injustice and not revenge." And if he murders Dawes, Wayne/Batman is going to go NUTS! Joker will find a way to literally test batman, and what other way to do so than that? Racheal Dawes! After reading your post, I'm wondering if, as you suggest, it's all a ruse that they'll fix in post-production (i.e., replace one image with another).
