Bubba Ho-TepA follow-up to our story from last week where Paul Giamatti mentioned that Bruce Campbell might not return for a Bubba Ho-Tep sequel. We didn’t believe it. The idea of Giamatti playing Colonel Parker, who would have to team with Campbell’s Elive to fight Vampires, seemed too good for even Bruce to pass up. Well, apparently not. Fangoria caught up with the cult b-movie star, and this is what he said:

“[BUBBA NOSFERATU] is dead to me,” Campbell said flatly. “It sleeps with the fishes. Don Coscarelli is a very passionate filmmaker. We got to a few points [developing the screenplay] that we couldn’t reconcile. I want to keep our friendship, so we parted ways. So I’m not part of that project.”

Director Don Coscarelli says that he is considering recasting the film with another actor whom the fans would embrace. I wonder who that could be? Any ideas/suggestions?

Just throwing this out cause he does a good King (good enough to be in a film about him, and a film about an impersonator of him): Kurt Russel?

Well, if you’re looking for actors who do ridiculous over the top versions of Elvis, look no further than Nicholoas Cage. Maybe he could play the whole thing as “Tiny Elvis”…or “Flying Elvis”…or “Tiny Flying Elvis”?

Well, how good is your Elvis impersonation, Peter?

    I vote for Nathan Fillion!

I’m sure everyone will say “no one but Bruce can do it”, but I say “good riddance!” No no… NOT because of the truly legendary Bruce Campbell, one of my own favorite film heroes, but because the first Bubba Ho-Tep was really not that good…

Am I alone out here, are there any more of you that didn’t like Bubba Ho-Tep? I may even say Campbell’s Man with the Screaming Brain was better! All I know is that as fairly entertaining and well done Bubba Ho-Tep was, it was a boring film that didn’t really leave me feeling as complete as Army of Darkness or anything else… and so therefore I’m not praising it.

    Jeffery Combs…minus the Elvis bit.

If Bruce Campbell isn’t going to be in the film, save your money and don’t even bother to make the movie!

I have to agree with you Ray. Seems like a huge waste of money if Bruce won’t be in it, for both the watcher and studio. The sequal won’t happen anyhow. The only reason people watched the first one was due to Campbell.
