JLAAm I the only one starting to get tired of all the recent JLA news and rumors? It seems like anytime new word breaks, it’s quickly followed the next day by a retraction with new exciting information. It’s not that I don’t believe the film is going to happen, it’s definitely going down. Warner Bros wants to rush this film into production by March 2008, before the potential strike. Even the LA Times has confirmed this as fact.

It now seems like the film won’t be filmed using Motion Capture after all. That’s right, we’re back to a live action JLA movie. This is too bad, because the idea of a 3D computer animated film appealed to me more than the live-action concept. IESB, who is at the forefront of all the new Justice League of America information is now reporting that only a few underwater sequences and computer generated characters will be created using motion capture. Smallville star Tom Welling is also supposedly in talks to play Superman in the flick. Series producer Alfred Gough is denying the story over at SupermanHomepage. Filming a JLA flick early next year could run into scheduling problems with the Smallville television series. So who knows what’s really going on.

I’m sure by late next week the film will be a black and white 3D movie using digital recreated versions of Christian Bale and Brandon Routh (I kid, I kid). I just wish Warner Bros would just make the official announcement already. George Miller is obviously attached. Please WB, stop this rumor madness and just tell us what’s going on!

...I’m sure by late next week the film will be a black and white 3D movie using digital recreated versions of Christian Bale and Brandon Routh (I kid, I kid)...

That would actually appeal to me, but I'm probably the only one...
  • Graviti
So it's safe to say that no one has any idea about anything for the upcoming JLA. About 15 different things have been "confirmed", then disconfirmed a few days later. Come on now...
  • What a clusterf*ck, all because WB can't find a way to get Bale and Routh on board. This is NOTHING but a quick, short-sighted cash grab by WB, and it's going to do real hard to the two franchises they already have working well, Superman and Batman.

This movie could be amazing if they did it right and at the right time, but it's clear no one at WB has any interest in that.

Here's what I wrote over at SN, puts the whole mess in perspective, I think:

"So here’s what you could be seeing: So there’s JUSTICE LEAGUE. And the Superman there is played by Tom Welling, who also plays Superman on SMALLVILE, but it’s not the same Superman, since on the show he’s supposed to be younger and he hasn’t put on the suit yet. Or maybe SMALLVILLE is just set before JUSTICE LEAGUE, which means either SMALLVILLE happens in the past or JUSTICE LEAGUE happens in the future, I guess. And no matter what, there’s actually a different Superman in the Bryan Singer SUPERMAN movies.

    Dizzy yet?

Let’s try this though: the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie introduces live-action versions of Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Flash. So, do they use those actors for solo movies? Or do they cast them oblivious to the JL cast? Little bit of both maybe?"
  • if this isn't some sort of REALLY STUPID way to generate talk about the film, WB is run by retarded chimps who throw darts at scripts and actors until their trainers decide that something matches up. Casting should be insanely simple:

    JLA:
    Batman: Christian Bale
    Flash: Ryan Reynolds
Green Lantern: Vince Vaughn?(white) Lawrence Fishburne(black)
Martian Man Hunter: Micheal Clarke Duncan
    Superman: Brandon Routh
    HawkGirl: Millia Jovovich
    Wonder Woman: Catherine Zeta Jones
    Aquaman: Jason Statham

    Legion of Doom:
Bizarro: Kane Hodder (or a CG Brandon Routh, that'd be cool!)
    Brainiac: John Hurt/Ian McKellan?
    Lex Luthor: Kevin Spacey
    Scarecrow: Cillian Murphy
    Sinestro: Bruce Campbell
    Gorilla Grodd: Computer Generated
    Cheetah/Catwoman: Scarlett Johanson
    Solomon Grundy: Mickey Rourke/Sid Haig

I just made that up! Come on WB you're PAYING people to do this!
  • Ha... that's a pretty great cast!

Unfortunately, this 'amazing' script everyone keeps assuming is good just because WB said so that one time, has them fighting Maxwell Lord and OMACs (also knows a C-List Lex Luthor and identical robots that same money on CGI).

What should be the greatest SuperHero film ever is gonna be a trainwreck. And once it tanks, it'll be nearly impossible to do again. Such a shame.

The right way to do this is after MAN OF STEEL and the third Nolan/Bale Batman. Why? Because there's very little chance Nolan's coming back after #3, so they could use JL to introduce the new guy in the suit. Timing's everything.
