Cloverfield: 1-18-08 Website Removed?

1-18-08

Paramount has removed the 1-18-08.com website today. The site now redirects to the Paramount.com website. I wonder if this is just temporary? I always assumed that the site would evolve into a larger online viral game. But if the only purpose was to show us a few photographs, then I’m starting to wonder why they would even bother. We’ll keep you updated. CloverfieldClues has made a mirror of the old 1-18-08 site, if you still want to stare at the photos and move ‘em around the screen.

Update: As of 9:00pm pt on August 23rd, the 1-18-08.com website is now back up and running.

Maybe Paramount was unhappy with the direction the creators of the ARG (or not-so-ARG) was going in. Then again, the Slusho site and the MySpace pages are still active. Who knows?
  • Sam
I was just on the site, which of course redirected to the Paramount page. One of the ad panels (I believe the second one from the left) goes to "Cloverfield" at some point, and clicking on the "Website" tag when it pops up directs viewers to the Apple Trailers page.

That's all I've seen so far. Nothing big or impressive. Though I still love the trailer. ^_^

I have officially lost interest in this movie.

What began as an exciting and original marketing campaign has really gone pear shaped. I can't believe they haven't even announced the title! I really don't think the film will deliver on its promise, which seems to be a trend for Abrams & Bad Robot.
  • The site is on right now...

    =)
  • Did you know you could flip the pictures over?
  • Steve Dubs
I didn't know that until I grabbed them and spun them real fast. Thanks Tomm
  • Happened to find that accidentally - didnt uncover anything important besides those two notes though, and they didnt seem to give anything obvious away.

Not sure if this is old news or not, but I was messing around with the picture of the blonde check and it flips over to what she wrote on the back. Although it's nothing revealing as far as I can tell.

Ed: maybe it's the reason why they shutdown the site, to attract the attention to these new (?) stuff. You can now flip the photos over and read what's written on the back. Nothing groundbreaking though...
  • Sam
Nah. You've been able to turn the pics over for weeks now, so that wouldn't be why they shut it down for a bit. I wonder what happened...
  • Mr B
at six minutes after opening the site now ROARS.
  • Sam
OK, that's new as far as I know.

Creepy. I just heard it for myself.

Well I guess the site was down so they could add that sound effect. Very effective. I do have some doubts about the film now though. If they dont go into the Slusho backstory it wont be as interesting to me. The thought of parasites and genetic mutation appeal more to me than just some sea monster. Off topic-Love the trailer for AVP-R! Lets hope the final product is as kick a** as it seems.

Leave 1-18-08.com on for more than 5 minutes. Have Your Speakers On. Legit.
  • I sat here for about 5 minutes and assumed nothing as going to happen. The wait was worth it (I forgot to amp down my speakers...) Good find, Ben!
  • Here's an audio file of the roar for those that don't want to wait 6 minutes.

  • Have any of you noticed what happens when you flip the pictures on 1-18-08.com over?

2 of them have notes written in pen/sharpie marker - while the other
the 3rd has Japanese text - I don’t speak or read Japanese, so I’m clueless as to what the 3rd photo says.

to check this out, click each photo at the the corner, hold the mouse key down and shake left and right real fast to flip each photo.
