MovieWeb has a look at the new teaser poster for the big screen adaptation of the popular video game Hitman. I was less than impressed by the first teaser trailer which was released in June. I’m not a big gamer but some of my best friends are, and I’ve always found Hitman to be interesting. But from the looks of the trailer, they decided to go against the whole “silent assassin” rating that is played up in the game, and have replaced it with fast cuts and big explosions. But again, what do I know.
One thing is for sure, video game adaptations have never lived up to gamers expectations. I do like the look and feel of the poster. Click on the poster to the right to enlarge. Hitman hits theaters on October 12th 2007.

I really wish these studios would have REAL gamers write, or even just oversee these movies when they get made. The reason these movies don’t do very well is because they don’t stick to the premise of the games. Games like Hitman and its sequels sell TONS of games BECAUSE of the writing, not just the gameplay itself. A movie studio gets a hold of the idea and ruins what made it a great game in the hopes that its own “spin” will make it bigger… It never does.
The trailer I saw made Agent 47 a young (almost) “kid” that seemed hip on the trigger of his “Ballers”. F- that noise. That’s not 47. It’s a studio created “hip/fresh” adaptation of a cool and calm silent assassin. They hope to capitalize on the young audience in general. They should’ve stuck with the essence of the game, rather than just the idea - Just like every other gaming movie. It would’ve brought that same audience, and it would’ve brought the gaming community as well.
I’m hoping to be pleasently surprised and the young dude we saw will only be at the beginning while 47’s story develops, but I have the feeling it won’t. I get the feeling that the whole movie will be full of “bang bang explosions” done by an erratic kid, rather then the silent, cold, experienced, and methodical assassin we come to enjoy in the game.

Going to have to agree with Graviti on this. But in part I believe it is primarily the cause of the un-common sense of marketers. They think gamers will actually pay money to see these films when in fact they already know that they will be terrible.
Sad thing is I actually wanted to make a film based off hitman, only true to the game with a much more realistic and dark tone with actual director narrative. But previous films based of games have already damaged any sort of anticipation anyone has for these types of films.

I don’t disagree with Graviti, but it’s not like you don’t have the option to kill everyone and blow sh*t up in the game. It may not be the intent of the game, but you can still beat the game that way. So it’s not Silent Assassin 47. That must mean it’s Mass Murderer 47. Who knows? Could still be good. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I’m a gamer, and I’ve played all of the series (4 of them). And I have been waiting for this movie since spring 2007. The thing that I like from 47 is because he is a cloning, so he is not a regular guy, I mean he has no basic emotion like fear, love, sad, etc. But it looks like the movie maker get it all wrong. They just get the idea about, a hitman, goes by the name 47, and carry out contract. So I’m disappointed. But like any other gaming movie, they just want to attach the movie with the game popularity, so they can harvest thing without a lot of hard work. I don’t want to watch the movie like I watch RE Apocalypse, just want to see Jill and Nemesis in big screen.

Oh, Jay01, please what did you do to make that film? tape yourself playing the game and show it to your buddies?what happened to it? And in genereral I would not mind to see a walk through of every mission from the series, together with a narration and freeze frames along the lines of “notice he is dressed as a butcher, and the alternative way to get in … tada” he runs up to the porch and takes everyone out with a shotgun put it to some groovy track and you get the whole pulp fiction thing going, Jay wanna go halfs on it?Hell, I would watch Halo Red vs Blue when I am stoned, can’t say it’s a cinematographic masterpiece, but it makes me laugh.
And Jay, did you say that “all gamers know…” perhaps you are more in tune with the mentality of gamers, maybe your understanding of what constitutes being a gamer differs from mine, but most likely is that you are suffering from delusions that your position in society qualifies you to make generalised statements about that.
And yes THEY think correctly: the gamers will go to see it, and will bring friends too, who may or may not be into the game at all.
i think that games’ story-line has the potential for a good film even if there was no game, but as it stands now if they didn’t base it on the game they obviously open to legal challenges and guys like _____ would start yapping about what a ripoff…blablabla yawn.
Anyway Jay I just re-read over my comment and I think that perhaps I am being impolite, but too lazy to re-write it. Please take it from the perspective of a person who is rather upset by your comment instead of a guy who is giving you crap. Ok.Hugs.
