Were you a fan of the HBO series Six Feet Under? I was one of those people who discovered the movie on DVD, and watched almost every single episode in the span of a few weeks. I have yet to see another show with the same sensibilities. Six Feet Under screenwriter Nancy Oliver’s new movie Lars and the Real Girl has some of the same dark weird dramatic comedy. The film is described as:
A heartfelt comedy starring Academy-Award nominated Ryan Gosling as Lars Lindstrom a loveable introvert whose emotional baggage has kept him from fully embracing life. After years of what is almost solitude, he invites Bianca, a friend he met on the internet to visit him. He introduces Bianca to his Brother Gus (Paul Schneider) and his wife Karen (Emily Mortimer) and they are stunned. They don’t know what to say to Lars or Bianca – because she is a life-size doll, not a real person and he is treating her as though she is alive. They consult the family doctor Dagmar (Patricia Clarkson) who explains this is a delusion he’s created – for what reason she doesn’t yet know but they should all go along with it. What follows is an emotional journey for Lars and the people around him.
Check out the trailer after the jump.
You can watch the trailer in High Definition at Apple.com. Lars and the Real Girl hits theaters on October 12th 2007.

There was numerous magazine writers at the screener and each and every one of them said for sure Ryan Gosling will get the Oscar this year for his performance. That there was no doubt, it’s his best performance yet. A friend of mine is the Mom of one of the female actresses in this movie and she said it’s one of the funniest movies shes seen in ages.
It’s hard for me to see Ryan playing such an unattractive character..hes so good looking in real life.. ahh

Got to see a test screening a while ago and absolutely loved it. Gosling is astounding and delivers one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. He is a chameleon. The writing and directing are extremely tight and it’s definitely a fine piece of film.

There was a documentary on people who had brought Real Dolls recently and how they were used as companions as well as for other uses… this film sounds interesting and funny as well.

This was a lighthearted comedy that just got to histerical proportions with him toting the doll around to certian situations-i dont want to ruin it- classic stuff

This film is brilliant! Ryan Gosling is amazing and definitely Oscar-worthy for his performance. I have been recommending this film to everyone I see. The accompanying soundtrack is beautiful as well. Kudos to Nancy Oliver! [And I was a huge fan of Six Feet Under too!]

I thought the movie was a delight, too, but am amazed that no one mentioned that you could see the microphone in at least a third of the scenes. Sometimes there were actually two microphones visible. Surely it wasn’t on purpose. I don’t think we are going to see this movie win an Oscar for editing!
