Chuck Palahniuk is my favorite author. You can probably tell by the extensive coverage I’ve given the various movie adaptations in development. Most of you will know Chuck as the author of Fight Club. Invisible Monsters was published after that success in 1999.
Following the success of Swimming Out to Holly, a short film that played at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival, newcomer Jesse Peyronel was able to get the attention of Chuck with a screenplay adaptation of Invisible Monsters. Chuck optioned the project to Jesse for one year, but the money never came together despite a major Hollywood rumor that Jessica Biel was interested in starring in the feature film adaptation. Jesse persisted and was able to re-option the property, which unfortunately hasn’t been heard from since… until this week. IMDB has finally added the project to the database, fueling rumors that the Choke movie adaptation starring Sam Rockwell (which is currently filming) has ignited new interest in the project. We don’t know much more than that at this time.
Invisible Monsters follows the story of Daisy St. Patience, a beautiful young fashion model who became the victim of an accident that left her disfigured and unable to speak. During her stay in the hospital, Brandy Alexander encourages Daisy to use her tragedy to completely change the way she lives her life. Daisy hits the road with Brandy and her two-timing ex-boyfriend in search for a brand-new past, present and future. And of course, there is a lot of the dark humor and twisted reveals that you would expect from Palahniuk.
Let’s hope someone in Hollywood has given this project the fast track. I should hopefully have more word on the current status of this project by mid-week.

I think invisible monsters has significantly more potential than choke. I also think survivor has more potential than both of them to be made into a movie. I would be interested to see how they handle certain”twists” from the Invisible Monsters book such as the Person A and Person B actually turning out to be the same Person.
As for Choke, if they keep the same final climax as the book, then i don’t see it having much mass-appeal, which is fine, but i imagine marketing will try to play at as the next Fight Club..which would be ok, if it were Survivor that were being made instead of Choke.

Chuck is also my favorite author and Invisible Monsters is by far my favorite book. I would be so pumped if they decided to make this into a movie as well as many of his other books.
I do agree with the statements above by “the thin man” and I know that their was talk about Survivor becoming a movie back in the day but after 9/11 I think the idea got canned. Hopefully someone can rekindle that project
I have always thought “Chuck Palahniuk is the biggest untapped resource producing books today” and glad to hear that others feel the same way. The man is brilliant and his books have the craziest twists ever…why wouldn’t they make great movies? After Fight Club’s success I figured Hollywood would be jumping all over his books and finally it seems like they might.
